Show Notes

This week on Spellbound, the girls continue their journey through Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses. They recap Feyre’s first days in the Spring Court and wonder whether a complimentary estate, endless food, and magical servants are enough to improve her attitude. Along the way, they discuss Paul Anthony Kelly’s spectacular fall from grace, Bumble’s venture into AI-assisted dating, and why James Franco has once again appeared when nobody asked him to.

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. A Romanasy podcast. I'm Deidre. [00:00:10] Speaker B: And I'm Jillian. [00:00:11] Speaker A: You know, I said a Romanasy podcast, but, girl, it's. It's whatever. [00:00:14] Speaker B: It's everything. [00:00:14] Speaker A: It's a choose your own adventure. [00:00:16] Speaker B: Yeah. It's an everything bagel. [00:00:18] Speaker A: It's delicious every time. [00:00:19] Speaker B: It is delicious. It hits every time. [00:00:22] Speaker A: A crowd favorite. Thanks for joining us. Yeah, we love to see it. How are you? [00:00:29] Speaker B: I'm pretty good. [00:00:30] Speaker A: Happy belated Mother's Day. [00:00:31] Speaker B: Happy belated Mother's Day. Yeah. [00:00:34] Speaker A: Yeah. You do anything special? [00:00:35] Speaker B: I didn't. I should have done more with Luna, honestly, but. Well, yeah, I mean, we went and bopped around Andersonville. [00:00:44] Speaker A: We did with Mikey. [00:00:45] Speaker B: That was script. With Mikey. [00:00:47] Speaker A: That's become, like, a little bit of a Mother's Day tradition. [00:00:49] Speaker B: It really has. [00:00:50] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know that we did it last year, but the year before. [00:00:53] Speaker B: The year before that was when I. I mean, that was a. Like, a seminal day in my life. [00:00:59] Speaker A: I remember Mikey went to the restroom. I turned to you. I got, isn't he beautiful? [00:01:01] Speaker B: I know. I was like, yes. [00:01:03] Speaker A: Beautiful. [00:01:04] Speaker B: I said yes. [00:01:05] Speaker A: I knew it. [00:01:06] Speaker B: I mean, I remember what he was wearing. [00:01:08] Speaker A: Just a fantastic. Just a fantastic experience. We actually have not been back to that restaurant, oddly enough. Yeah. [00:01:14] Speaker B: What was that called? It. [00:01:15] Speaker A: Was it M. Henry's? [00:01:16] Speaker B: M. Henry. [00:01:18] Speaker A: Yeah. Good place. [00:01:19] Speaker B: Yeah, it was a good place. [00:01:20] Speaker A: We just completely monopolized. [00:01:22] Speaker B: I mean, taste. We got to go to the taste. [00:01:25] Speaker A: Yeah. Every time. [00:01:26] Speaker B: Every time. Yeah. [00:01:28] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, aside from bopping around with y', all, my Mother's Day was good. I woke up to a gift card from Birdie. I didn't think she was gonna get me anything. I love that she sent me a gift card. [00:01:37] Speaker B: That's very nice. [00:01:37] Speaker A: Like, 20 bucks to get some coffee. [00:01:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:01:40] Speaker A: She's like, this is what we do anyway. You just throw me in the car, we go get some coffee. Here you go. [00:01:43] Speaker B: She's like, I want my pup cup. [00:01:44] Speaker A: So she's not getting a pup cup. Sorry. [00:01:47] Speaker B: No. [00:01:47] Speaker A: Doesn't agree. It doesn't agree with the. [00:01:49] Speaker B: Her. Got health. [00:01:51] Speaker A: I don't like birdie with bubble guts. [00:01:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. Her microbiome is like, no. [00:01:55] Speaker A: You know, it's interesting because when we lived at our last place, there was a, you know, a vegan ice cream shop over there. [00:02:04] Speaker B: Oh, right. [00:02:05] Speaker A: And we would. Yeah, vodka. [00:02:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:02:07] Speaker A: We would go over there, and I would get our pup cups from there because it was like a vegan vanilla ice cream. It was just, you know, really just spinning the pup cup industry on the head. [00:02:16] Speaker B: Right, Right. [00:02:17] Speaker A: Yeah. And now I'm like, you know, the whipped cream just doesn't hit the same. I don't know. Every now and again. But we can't do it as frequently as. I think she would like. [00:02:25] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean. Yeah. I'm sure she would love that. [00:02:28] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, that's. All right. [00:02:30] Speaker A: Can I just have a gripe for a second? [00:02:32] Speaker B: Absolutely, go ahead. [00:02:34] Speaker A: Have your own opinions about what you want with fur moms. Right, Right. You and I are both fur moms. Right. The fact of the matter is that we are raising and taking care of and sheltering and paying for and loving and living, breathing, being 100. [00:02:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:02:49] Speaker A: And, you know, we tend to raise our dogs like kids. [00:02:52] Speaker B: Absolutely. I mean, I don't always do a great job at it. [00:02:55] Speaker A: You're doing it. [00:02:55] Speaker B: I do. [00:02:56] Speaker A: I do. [00:02:56] Speaker B: I mean, I love her. [00:02:58] Speaker A: You're doing a great job. [00:02:59] Speaker B: I'm addicted to her. [00:03:00] Speaker A: Yes. You know, that day, I was like, spreading Happy Mother's Days around. [00:03:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah, girl. [00:03:07] Speaker A: Happy Mother's Day. [00:03:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:03:08] Speaker A: And it's so, you know, a litmus test is how other women respond. Bond. [00:03:14] Speaker B: Thanks. [00:03:15] Speaker A: Thanks. [00:03:16] Speaker B: Period. [00:03:18] Speaker A: Not gonna name names. [00:03:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:03:20] Speaker A: Of any of the perpetrators. Let me tell you. Who gets a gold star for me. [00:03:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:03:24] Speaker A: Your friend Kelly. [00:03:25] Speaker B: Did you say, happy Mother's Day? [00:03:27] Speaker A: I sure did. [00:03:27] Speaker B: On Instagram or on Instagram. [00:03:29] Speaker A: Because she posted a story and you know what her story was about? [00:03:32] Speaker B: What? [00:03:33] Speaker A: I'm thinking about all women today. [00:03:36] Speaker B: You know what? God, I gotta reach out to her. I was thinking about her today. [00:03:40] Speaker A: She was like, I'm thinking about all women today. I'm thinking about you if you have kids. If you don't have kids. If you want kids, but Don, you don't have them. If you've got a really contentious relationship with your mom. Whatever. I'm thinking about you, girl. I said, happy Mother's Day, Queen. [00:03:52] Speaker B: Yes. Yes. [00:03:53] Speaker A: Hope you're doing well. And she's like, same to you. [00:03:57] Speaker B: You think she's moved to the suburbs? [00:03:59] Speaker A: No. [00:03:59] Speaker B: No, probably not. I gotta contact her because I don't live far from her. [00:04:03] Speaker A: She's great. [00:04:03] Speaker B: I know she's great. [00:04:04] Speaker A: You know, she's one of the good ones. Yeah. [00:04:06] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:07] Speaker A: And my fellow, you know, fur moms, I wish them a happy Mother's Day. We all rejoiced. [00:04:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:12] Speaker A: Courtney, I'm talking to you. She's got, you know, she's got a couple fur babies. [00:04:15] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:04:18] Speaker A: Never thought I'd. Directly to you. Yeah. Never thought I'd see the day. Honestly, Courtney, Was not really sort of a pet girl. No. But she has taken these cats. [00:04:26] Speaker B: She's. Cats. Okay. Yeah. [00:04:28] Speaker A: You know, these cats kind of came to her and her husband at their beach house. [00:04:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:31] Speaker A: And. And she's like, I am their mother. [00:04:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:04:34] Speaker A: They found me. [00:04:35] Speaker B: They found me. Yeah. [00:04:36] Speaker A: It. Mostly, you know, Matthew, really. [00:04:39] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:04:40] Speaker A: Matthew is in there. He would rather take care of. Stay at home with those cats than do anything socially. So she's like, all right. [00:04:48] Speaker B: I know. She's like, they've got a good dad. They've got a good papa. [00:04:51] Speaker A: Well, we'll honor him on Father's Day. [00:04:52] Speaker B: On Father's Day. Yeah. [00:04:54] Speaker A: But, yeah, it was. It was. It was a good holiday all around. [00:04:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:04:58] Speaker A: Perfect. Well, you want to get into a little. Here? [00:05:02] Speaker B: Let's do it. Yeah. Yeah. [00:05:05] Speaker A: Okay. Now, you know, I did not necessarily watch Love Story on FX because. [00:05:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh. [00:05:11] Speaker A: I'm like, you know, whatever. But, you know, that's fine, because I didn't really need to watch that to know that I thought that JFK Jr was fine as hell when he was amongst the living. I mean, God rest his soul. [00:05:22] Speaker B: Yes. [00:05:23] Speaker A: However, you know, just in another episode of Men disappointing me. We need to talk about. Honestly, we're on season 27. [00:05:30] Speaker B: I know this series. [00:05:31] Speaker A: Now, Paul Anthony Kelly, the actor who plays JFK Jr. In the FX show Love Story. [00:05:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:41] Speaker A: He was invited to and attended the recent Met Gala. [00:05:46] Speaker B: Yep. [00:05:47] Speaker A: Which ick all the way around. [00:05:49] Speaker B: I know the whole thing. Whatever. [00:05:51] Speaker A: You know the whole thing. However, he had a little interview on the red carpet in which the interviewer brought up how amazing it was that Beyonce was making her return to Met Gala at or however many years. [00:06:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:06] Speaker A: And he just very dismissively and nonchalantly engaged with the question. [00:06:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:12] Speaker A: And then the interviewer goes, what's your favorite Beyonce song? And he could not answer. Number one. I have the ick. You can't. [00:06:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:19] Speaker A: One Beyonce. [00:06:19] Speaker B: Right, right, right. That's crazy. [00:06:21] Speaker A: Then he, like, just kind of shrugged it off and was like. And says, and I quote, I'm a metal head. [00:06:26] Speaker B: First of all, what the. [00:06:29] Speaker A: There has never been a man who has looked so unattractive so quickly in my mind. [00:06:35] Speaker B: So quickly. [00:06:36] Speaker A: It's like, oh, diminishes capital immediately. [00:06:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:40] Speaker A: We talked last week about. Sean had a CBD appreciating asset. This is a depreciating asset. [00:06:44] Speaker B: I know. [00:06:46] Speaker A: This is like a Toyota Camry. As soon as you drive it off the lot, it's bad. [00:06:50] Speaker B: Interest rates went up, and then it's like, you're Done. [00:06:53] Speaker A: You're done. [00:06:54] Speaker B: You're done. [00:06:54] Speaker A: And now you're driving a piece of shit car. [00:06:57] Speaker B: Yep. [00:06:57] Speaker A: Nobody. [00:06:58] Speaker B: God damn it. Yeah. [00:06:59] Speaker A: You can't. You cannot trust these men. [00:07:02] Speaker B: No, no. [00:07:03] Speaker A: To surprise and delight. [00:07:05] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, you really can. It's a rare one. It's a rare one. [00:07:09] Speaker A: Well, yeah. You know, I had high hopes for him because he seems like. He seemed like a pretty good one. I had limited knowledge of him, but for him to get up here and so egregiously go. I don't know. What Beyonce. You don't know Single ladies. [00:07:21] Speaker B: Yeah. Crazy in love. [00:07:22] Speaker A: You don't know Crazy in love. You don't know Formation. Those are just three crazy titles of Beyonce songs. They, like, transcended, like, all listeners, all ears, all genres. [00:07:34] Speaker B: I would have taken a Destiny's Child. [00:07:35] Speaker A: I would have taken a Bootylicious. [00:07:37] Speaker B: I would have taken an album name. I mean, if I, like, Seriously drunk in love. Yeah, right, right, right, right. I know. [00:07:46] Speaker A: Like, to be not culturally aware is such a turn off for me. I can't do it. No. [00:07:51] Speaker B: Even if you were like, oh, I love all of them, but I. But I'm also a metalhead. Like, that isn't that. That, like, doesn't take a lot. [00:08:00] Speaker A: No. He was so dismissive of her, and it was gross. It was like, what the is your problem tonight? [00:08:06] Speaker B: Yeah. It was giving racist. It was giving sexist. Yeah. You know, and I. I mean, obviously, like, he is a stunner, but he's also a stunner. Do you know what I mean? Like, it's like. Oh, I. Yeah. I don't know. There's something underneath there, you know, Like a stunning white man. It's like dangerous. Stunning straight white man. [00:08:27] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:28] Speaker B: I will say, like, Connor story. Like, we just know he's got a good heart. Yeah, yeah. [00:08:34] Speaker A: But this one. Damn. [00:08:37] Speaker B: I know, I know. He had potential. He wasn't a great actor, though, from what I saw. Was not a. Like, he was okay, but he wasn't, like, you know, like, totally impressive. Yeah. [00:08:48] Speaker A: I don't know that we'll see him in too much else. [00:08:51] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Oh, I just thought of what. Okay. All right. Keep going with the hear ye, hear ye. And then I have one. Yeah. [00:08:57] Speaker A: Okay, great. So, yeah, that's this week's episode in Men Disappointed me. Stay tuned. We'll have another episode. [00:09:04] Speaker B: Well, riveting for you. [00:09:05] Speaker A: Coming up. [00:09:06] Speaker B: No doubt. [00:09:06] Speaker A: No doubt about it. [00:09:07] Speaker B: Should be a segment. Yeah, absolutely. [00:09:11] Speaker A: Let's see here. When's the last time you've been on A dating app. [00:09:15] Speaker B: God, a couple years. Yeah. [00:09:17] Speaker A: Maybe it's been since Jesus Web. Yeah, frankly, honestly, it's just been so long. Good news for you, though. Bumble is ending the swipe. [00:09:27] Speaker B: What the are they doing? [00:09:29] Speaker A: So Bumble CEO Whitney Wolf heard in an interview with Axios, confirmed that Bumble will get rid of swiping. She said that they will instead be saying hello to something I believe is revolutionary for the category. [00:09:44] Speaker B: What? [00:09:46] Speaker A: The article then goes on to say that she is expected, or Bumble is expected to lean into AI. [00:09:52] Speaker B: Holy. [00:09:54] Speaker A: Saying that Bumble is working on an AI dating assistant called B. And Wolf. Wolf Herd has commented previously about how AI will be a, quote, supercharger to love and relationships. [00:10:09] Speaker B: Oh, my God. You know what? There's going to be a new category. I bet in all these dating apps. It's like, do you prefer a really a virtual or in real life relationship? [00:10:18] Speaker A: All the men are going to choose virtual. [00:10:19] Speaker B: All of them? All of them. [00:10:22] Speaker A: Whitney. Whitney has shown interest in having personal AI bots that date other AI bots for you. [00:10:30] Speaker B: What the. [00:10:31] Speaker A: So you just. You just got like an AI bot who's out here wheeling and dealing with mingling. [00:10:37] Speaker B: That's insane. [00:10:38] Speaker A: Doing whatever on your behalf. Meanwhile, you're been over a computer doing work somewhere. [00:10:41] Speaker B: You know what's going on? Capitalism at work. [00:10:45] Speaker A: Yeah. You have time to date. Your. Your AI bot is doing. [00:10:48] Speaker B: AI bot is going to do it for you. [00:10:51] Speaker A: You're. [00:10:51] Speaker B: You're married and then boom, you're in a virtual relationship and you're married and you've never met them. [00:10:56] Speaker A: Does it come with benefits? Uhhuh. [00:10:58] Speaker B: I know. Seriously, can I pick a gay AI bot? [00:11:04] Speaker A: I don't know. I don't know how it'll work, but yeah, that's pretty much it. Just as we sink deeper into the world being taken over by artificial intelligence. [00:11:16] Speaker B: Wow. [00:11:16] Speaker A: Your love life's not safe. [00:11:18] Speaker B: That's crazy. I've read some like. And I think I just like, read the. The headline, but it was basically like in 2026, men and women hate each other. So now what? And I was like, first of all, men have always hated women. [00:11:32] Speaker A: No. Yeah. Wake up. Wake up, sister. We've been here, we got snacks in the back. [00:11:36] Speaker B: We've been putting up with it for a long time and now we're not going. [00:11:40] Speaker A: Oh, my God, it's so exhausting every day. [00:11:43] Speaker B: I know. [00:11:44] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, this is really sort of being brought about because in the article also mentioned that Bumble's basically business performance has been suffering in the last. [00:11:53] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. She is. [00:11:54] Speaker A: Over the course of several quarters, they're down tremendously. [00:11:57] Speaker B: I bet she has. She is really grasping for straws. Yeah. With that. I mean, they're not doing well because it's like, it's. It's a hellscape there. [00:12:05] Speaker A: It's a hellscape. [00:12:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:12:07] Speaker A: I'm like, I don't really understand how this is anything but, like, showcasing to you how terrible for sure. Men are. [00:12:14] Speaker B: For sure. Yeah, Absolutely. It's like if you want to change the landscape or change. It's like, first of all, change parenting number one. Number one. And, like, teach men how to be people. [00:12:29] Speaker A: No. [00:12:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:30] Speaker A: They're like, I'm sorry, that's too much. [00:12:31] Speaker B: I know. Not in 2026. Yeah. [00:12:35] Speaker A: I don't know. God bless. God bless the sisters among us. [00:12:38] Speaker B: God bless. Yeah. [00:12:39] Speaker A: Keep up the good fight. [00:12:40] Speaker B: Seriously. And who are just like, you know, just putting up with a bunch of. [00:12:45] Speaker A: Not me. [00:12:47] Speaker B: Not me. I do love those shoes. [00:12:49] Speaker A: Thank you. Super cute. Really appreciate it. What were you thinking about for your hear ye here? [00:12:53] Speaker B: Okay, so I was reading like, it's the Cannes Film Festival and there was some movie with Hannah, you know, Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson. [00:13:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. [00:13:07] Speaker B: That, like, got a six minute standing ovation. Guest, like, that got an amazing. Yeah. And then I was like, included in that. Like somebody who was in the audience. James Franco. Haven't seen him. [00:13:20] Speaker A: He's in the audience. [00:13:21] Speaker B: Haven't seen him in a while. [00:13:22] Speaker A: Oh, he's out here crawling from. Out from under a rock. [00:13:24] Speaker B: He is. Let me tell you. He was with his girlfriend. [00:13:27] Speaker A: How old was she? [00:13:28] Speaker B: Well, here, listen. So she. He's 48. [00:13:33] Speaker A: And really, I mean, it's been a long time since we've seen. [00:13:35] Speaker B: It's been a long time. [00:13:36] Speaker A: I missed a few birthdays. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Yeah, a few. A few. We. For good reason. [00:13:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:13:41] Speaker B: Yeah. But he was in court. [00:13:45] Speaker A: Did you see him while you were there settling the. [00:13:47] Speaker B: Yeah, he was settling a bunch of cases. [00:13:49] Speaker A: You're like, I didn't pay this parking ticket. He's like, get in line. [00:13:52] Speaker B: Yeah. He's like, seriously? This is. I. I'm in criminal. Criminal court here. But anyway, so James Franco, his girlfriend. And then I was like, okay, what's the deal here? Because he was. He's been with her for nine years, since 2017. [00:14:11] Speaker A: Okay. [00:14:11] Speaker B: So I was like, she looks kind of young. [00:14:14] Speaker A: That's about the time he went under underground. [00:14:16] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. 1996, she was born. So they. She was 21 when they started dating. Isn't that insane? And he was 38 or 37? 30. I'm sorry, 39. [00:14:30] Speaker A: Here's the thing. To be that age now. 38. 30. [00:14:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:34] Speaker A: 37. 38. 39. [00:14:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:36] Speaker A: When I think about. Because we're straight. But when I think about dating a young man who's 21, 22. [00:14:43] Speaker B: Holy shit. [00:14:43] Speaker A: I can't think of anything I'd like to do less. [00:14:45] Speaker B: No, I know. [00:14:47] Speaker A: What is a 21 year old boy gonna offer me? [00:14:51] Speaker B: Right? It's a boy. It's a boy. [00:14:52] Speaker A: It's a boy. [00:14:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:53] Speaker A: He has nothing to offer me. [00:14:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:54] Speaker A: And he doesn't really have anything to offer me in terms of sex. [00:14:57] Speaker B: No, no. No one knows nothing. [00:14:59] Speaker A: He knows nothing. [00:15:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:00] Speaker A: He's not prioritizing my pleasure or like our connection. There's none of that. [00:15:04] Speaker B: No, no, no. [00:15:07] Speaker A: And so I. Men of that age, they know what the. They're doing when they're dating girls that [00:15:13] Speaker B: are 20 years old. Sure. For sure. [00:15:15] Speaker A: Thankful that they legal. [00:15:17] Speaker B: Yep. [00:15:18] Speaker A: But they're not. They don't. They're not taking that seriously. [00:15:21] Speaker B: Along those lines. Also, Olivia Rodrigo got in trouble. Did you see this? [00:15:25] Speaker A: With the baby doll? [00:15:26] Speaker B: Yeah. With a baby doll dress. I mean, it's not giving. Yeah. It's. It's not great. [00:15:31] Speaker A: I need to look into this a little bit more because some of the people are like, I hear that. I also am like, I'm not also here for policing women and what they want to wear. [00:15:41] Speaker B: Right, right, right. [00:15:43] Speaker A: Also people are a little bit like. And I, again, I need to look into this. But they're like, you know, a female punk rock bands of the 90s would wear things like this, like baby doll dresses with bloomers, I guess. [00:15:55] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. [00:15:56] Speaker A: Okay. So I don't know. I'm a little bit like, I don't love it for this. [00:16:01] Speaker B: I know, I know. Right, right, right, right. Yeah. It's pro. It's a. It's a bad choice for right now. Yeah. But it's also like. Yeah. [00:16:08] Speaker A: I mean, especially when you know that these men are like, prioritizing and like desiring. [00:16:12] Speaker B: Right. [00:16:14] Speaker A: Young infant life. [00:16:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:16] Speaker A: Women. [00:16:16] Speaker B: It's giving Epstein for sure. Yeah. And apparently Franco, James Frank going to jail. No, no. Yeah. [00:16:25] Speaker A: I'm so exhausted. [00:16:26] Speaker B: I know. I'm exhausted too. I know. James Franco. That should be illegal. [00:16:32] Speaker A: And what are people doing talking to him at Cannes? Are they just like, hey, bud, I don't know. [00:16:36] Speaker B: Welcome back probably? [00:16:38] Speaker A: Well, yeah. I mean, you're seeing a lot of these like quote unquote, canceled celebs. Yeah. [00:16:43] Speaker B: Coming back. Lucy K. I know you got Aziz. Aziz. Yep. [00:16:48] Speaker A: You got James Franco now, apparently. [00:16:50] Speaker B: And like they pro. Like they address it only like a little bit, right? They'll be like, oh, I'm rehabilitated or whatever, you know, but it's like, okay, like, you need to talk about it. You need to be like, this is, you know, this is a time in my life. [00:17:07] Speaker A: And he learned absolutely nothing. [00:17:09] Speaker B: He's just absolutely nothing. [00:17:10] Speaker A: Sleeping with a young 20 something year old woman. Woman. [00:17:13] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:17:13] Speaker A: For the last eight years. And the sad thing about it with her, I mean, you know, of course she's 20. She's 21. She can make her own decisions. The problem when you're that age is that you think you know everything. [00:17:23] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. And then you do what is cool. [00:17:26] Speaker A: Yeah. And you know, you get up here at our age and you look back and you're like, I didn't know a thing. [00:17:31] Speaker B: No, yeah, yeah. You're like, God, what was I doing? All right, should we get into it? [00:17:40] Speaker A: I think so. [00:17:41] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:42] Speaker A: You know, let me just. Here we go. This week we are continuing our reread of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Everybody's just so thrilled about this, by the way. [00:17:53] Speaker B: Seriously. [00:17:54] Speaker A: Again, the first installment in the iconic series by Sarah J. Maas. As we do this, we're just gonna be breaking each book down part by part. So whether you've read the series 10 times or have no clue what the hell is going on, and even if you've read it 10 times, you still probably don't have a clue what the hell is going. There's something here for you. Yeah, we hope you enjoy. [00:18:14] Speaker B: So excited. Yeah. Yeah. Well, so we're gonna do a little bit of a new segment and we prep. We previewed this in the last episode, but we're gonna do. Previously on. Yeah, isn't that good? Love that. Yeah. Yeah. Previously on Spellbound. [00:18:30] Speaker A: And you can't skip this one. You don't have the option to skip this. [00:18:32] Speaker B: No, absolutely not. You cannot skip. Yeah, you have to. We have to go back. [00:18:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:37] Speaker B: Um, so we previously on. We talked about our main girl, Feyre. She works two jobs and never stops. I mean, she works like part of a fighter. [00:18:47] Speaker A: Eight jobs and a one man band. [00:18:51] Speaker B: Seriously, she is working. And anyway, so we see her. The book, the. The beginning of the book opens up. She is doing. She's hunting and she ends up killing wolf dressed it. Or a fairy dress as a wolf. [00:19:05] Speaker A: Well, we don't know that yet. [00:19:06] Speaker B: We don't know that. [00:19:07] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:19:07] Speaker B: Okay. We don't know that. And I Don't even think we know that by the end of that. [00:19:12] Speaker A: No, she's got to get. She. She's got to go to management and find out what the. Is going. [00:19:15] Speaker B: She still thinks it's a wolf, even though it had, like, sentient eyes. [00:19:20] Speaker A: I don't feel good about it, but I'm too. I'm too exhausted. I can't worry about if I just committed capital murder. [00:19:24] Speaker B: I know. She's like, I don't know. It looks like a wolf. [00:19:28] Speaker A: If it walks like a wolf, smells like a wolf, it's a wolf right now. Thank you so much. [00:19:32] Speaker B: But then he looks at her with those eyes, and she's. Jesus Christ. He feels shame. [00:19:37] Speaker A: She's like, I don't want to think about it. I don't want to think about it. She. [00:19:41] Speaker B: So anyway, she goes to the market, sells her wares, including the wolf pelt. Then she. [00:19:48] Speaker A: And she brings her sisters along. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Brings her sisters. Oh, so we meet her sisters. So oldest sister Nesta. Nasty, nasty Nesta. And then old. I always think of Elaine as, like, the youngest, but she's not. She's the middle child. [00:20:02] Speaker A: She's giving. Youngest. [00:20:04] Speaker B: Yes. And then her dad, I. Papa Archeron. I don't even know his name. [00:20:09] Speaker A: And James. [00:20:11] Speaker B: Something Richard. [00:20:12] Speaker A: He's giving a richer. [00:20:13] Speaker B: He's giving a richer for sure. Yes, yes. But he. Anyway, so they go to the market and she sells her wares. She meets a mercenary. Myself, my third grade softball coach. That's really what I was thinking, Liz. Then she gets her back blown out by Isaac Hale in the barn. In a dirty barn. [00:20:35] Speaker A: Just a regular Saturday. [00:20:36] Speaker B: Just. Just going to do some errands and then. And then spotting the. The. The farmer's son across the. [00:20:44] Speaker A: Across the market sisters. See y' all later. Don't wait up. [00:20:48] Speaker B: They know what it is. So she then goes home, makes a vet, makes a venison stew. And then all of a sudden, like a beast knocks on the door and comes in and says, you're a murderer. I'm gonna kidnap you. Kidnap you. [00:21:03] Speaker A: It's like, you know, basically like those Publisher Clearinghouse commercials for sure. [00:21:10] Speaker B: Yes, yes. But her family is like, see you later. Actually, don't. See you later. Don't come back. Good luck. You know, make sure you make sure you leave some stew for us. [00:21:22] Speaker A: It's some money and your life savings. [00:21:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:25] Speaker A: And we hope to never see you again. [00:21:27] Speaker B: Peace. [00:21:27] Speaker A: Peace be with you. It's a fantastic. [00:21:30] Speaker B: It is. So. So then we end up on horseback, riding along with a beast. [00:21:37] Speaker A: And after, you know, a day of romping around in an old nasty barn with your situationship. Can't imagine that was a fun time. [00:21:46] Speaker B: She. No, no, I hope she went sides out. [00:21:52] Speaker A: Definitely not. [00:21:53] Speaker B: Definitely not. Yeah. So that's where I. [00:21:58] Speaker A: This sounds like a great story. [00:21:59] Speaker B: It really does. [00:22:00] Speaker A: I love it. I love it. [00:22:01] Speaker B: A little bedtime story. [00:22:03] Speaker A: Just, you know, what dreams are made of essentially, you know. Okay, so this week's episode, we find ourselves after a drug induced trip to no man's land, we find ourselves waking up in essentially what can be described as the lawn and garden section of your local Lowe's. [00:22:25] Speaker B: Yep. Absolutely. Absolutely. [00:22:27] Speaker A: There's blooms, there's sun in the sky, there's sprinklers going off. [00:22:31] Speaker B: Yep. [00:22:32] Speaker A: And just this palatial mansion is sprawling in front of our girl Feyre, which is in direct contrast to her hovel that she comes. [00:22:40] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They keep saying that. I know. [00:22:43] Speaker A: They keep offending this girl. I know, like that shack, that roadside shack you come from. [00:22:48] Speaker B: She's like, I paid for that. I'm continuing to pay for that. [00:22:51] Speaker A: She's like, I got a mortgage. [00:22:52] Speaker B: She's like, Jesus Christ. Yeah, yeah, I know. [00:22:55] Speaker A: This is. She's like, this is family wealth. This is generation. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Yeah, this is generational. Yeah, this is generational. Like default. [00:23:03] Speaker A: Yes, yes. So she makes her. Her way into this just sprawling landscape of just beautiful flowers. It's like a. Just a. A living, breathing garden, so to speak. And this beautiful mansion. She basically gets off her, her horse. She shakes off the high that she's been under, the magical high that she's been under for the last two days. Because the two days, Two days. Two days. From her hovel, they got over the border into the magical land of Prythian. We find that this is where we are. [00:23:33] Speaker B: Y. [00:23:34] Speaker A: And now she has to basically make her way inside this mansion to start her new life. [00:23:40] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:23:41] Speaker A: And so she goes inside this, this mansion and she just can't believe her eyes because let me just say, it's beautiful. And this, this part of the book just really illustrates how. How much you miss out on in your life when you're ignorant. [00:23:56] Speaker B: Oh my God. Here you go again. [00:24:00] Speaker A: She went in here guns ablazing with her stereotypes and her biases. [00:24:04] Speaker B: She did. She did. [00:24:05] Speaker A: And these people were like, the hell is going on in here? [00:24:07] Speaker B: They're like, not you human. [00:24:09] Speaker A: What the nasty God carrying your diseases. [00:24:13] Speaker B: I know. [00:24:13] Speaker A: Oh God. Can you imagine? They were probably like, re up. Get your boosters. [00:24:18] Speaker B: Scrub her down. [00:24:20] Speaker A: Get your boosters. [00:24:22] Speaker B: God. [00:24:23] Speaker A: And so Feyre goes into this home One thing that she notices is that when we find out our kidnapper, the wolf beast, his name is Tamlin, we find out about that when he comes into his human form. [00:24:36] Speaker B: Shapeshifts. [00:24:37] Speaker A: He shapeshifts. He's a beautiful long blonde haired man. Tan skin. [00:24:42] Speaker B: One thing. Yeah, what's the thing? [00:24:44] Speaker A: He's wearing a mask. [00:24:45] Speaker B: He's wearing a mask. [00:24:45] Speaker A: It appears that Feyre has been dropped off into a masquerade ball. [00:24:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it says. I mean, it's weird. [00:24:50] Speaker A: Everywhere she looks, literally every person has a very like ornate masquerade mask on their face that basically kind of matches whatever occupation they have. [00:25:03] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And like, kind of like personality almost. Yeah. Or family. Like their family heirloom. [00:25:09] Speaker A: Like the stable boys have horse masks. [00:25:11] Speaker B: Right. [00:25:11] Speaker A: How miserable is that? [00:25:12] Speaker B: Well, also, why do the like kind of servants have bird masks? What's that about? [00:25:17] Speaker A: I think it's a gossip. [00:25:19] Speaker B: Oh. [00:25:20] Speaker A: Oh. [00:25:20] Speaker B: I don't like that. [00:25:21] Speaker A: I mean, I'm kind of like they're singing. They're like, I know it. I know what's going on in here. And I'm gonna all over the place. And so she meets a couple characters right off the bat. She meets Alice, who is the basically her like, handmaiden. [00:25:44] Speaker B: Almost handmade, right? [00:25:45] Speaker A: We love Alice. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Yeah, we do. [00:25:46] Speaker A: She's a voice of reason. [00:25:47] Speaker B: She's sassy. [00:25:48] Speaker A: She's sassy. She's logical. She's like, don't bring that up in here. [00:25:50] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:25:51] Speaker A: We run a tight ship in here. [00:25:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:53] Speaker A: I don't know what your attitude's about, but you need to wrap it up. We've been, we've been dealing with some. [00:25:57] Speaker B: Yeah. She's like, I'm not gonna tell you. I'm not gonna reveal the secrets. Like, we're not. We're not gonna do this. Yeah. And she's super loyal to Tamlin. [00:26:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:26:04] Speaker B: Which, you know, she likes to lay [00:26:07] Speaker A: out some nice clothes. She likes to lay out some nice silk, some nice velvet fabrics. Feyre's not, not feeling it because she's like, this is some like, Faye trickery. I don't know what this is. [00:26:18] Speaker B: God bless. She like bathes her favorites. Like, must be so dirty. [00:26:23] Speaker A: Can you imagine? [00:26:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:26:24] Speaker A: No, it smells wild in there. [00:26:27] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [00:26:28] Speaker A: And they have a. They have an incredible sense of smell. These. [00:26:31] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Her hair is probably down to her butt. [00:26:34] Speaker A: Like giving white dreads. [00:26:36] Speaker B: It is. It's giving cult. It's giving cult. [00:26:40] Speaker A: It's giving that Earth mother. It's giving earth mother. Yes, indeed. Feyre also goes into she hears another voice other than Tamlin's in the house. She goes into, into this sprawling dining room, as it were. And she sees meats, pies, cakes. [00:26:57] Speaker B: Yep. [00:26:57] Speaker A: Diet Coke, roast. All the things laid out. [00:27:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:03] Speaker A: And she's like, I will not be eating any of this trickery. I can't eat any of the Fae food. It would. [00:27:08] Speaker B: Yeah. They told me not to. Yeah, yeah. [00:27:10] Speaker A: And these folks are like, sister, this is prime rib. [00:27:12] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:27:13] Speaker A: Like, what's the problem? [00:27:13] Speaker B: There's like, you need to eat. Just sit down and eat. She won't do it. [00:27:17] Speaker A: She refuses to do it. [00:27:18] Speaker B: Well, wait, first she meets. [00:27:20] Speaker A: She meets Lucian. [00:27:21] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. [00:27:22] Speaker A: Which we love Lucian. [00:27:23] Speaker B: We do love. [00:27:23] Speaker A: Lucian is a red haired dream of a man. And what's interesting about him, he too is wearing a masquerade mask. But under that mask, he's got this gnarly scar on the side of his face that runs like down his eye. And you see like a clicking, whirring, russet colored fake eyeball in the socket that basically sees everything she does. [00:27:48] Speaker B: It just goes all over the place. [00:27:50] Speaker A: That thing never sleeps. [00:27:51] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:27:53] Speaker A: I. I mean, yeah. We need to get some new technology in there. [00:27:57] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. [00:27:58] Speaker A: Dealing with this for 50 years. [00:28:00] Speaker B: Yeah, like a. Like a human like eye. I mean they, they do those, right? A glass eye. [00:28:04] Speaker A: They could do better. Prosthetics. [00:28:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:06] Speaker A: In Prythian. [00:28:07] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Also because they're magic. They have magic. [00:28:10] Speaker A: They have magic. [00:28:12] Speaker B: That thing. [00:28:12] Speaker A: Exactly. So Lucian is Tamlin's emissary, by the way. [00:28:18] Speaker B: Is it. Do people pronounce it Lucian or Lucien? I do Lucian and I'm not gonna stop. [00:28:25] Speaker A: That's fine. [00:28:25] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. But I do feel like some people say Lucien. I don't know the French spelling. [00:28:31] Speaker A: I don't. I don't know how it's pronounced. So I think anything goes. [00:28:34] Speaker B: Yeah, whatever you feel. Okay. [00:28:37] Speaker A: And yeah. So they're friends. They're best friends. [00:28:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:40] Speaker A: They've basically known each other for the last 500 years. Since they were just boys. [00:28:45] Speaker B: Yeah, since they were little. What are they failings? [00:28:48] Speaker A: Yeah, little failings. And as things have evolved in this world, they need each other. And so basically Lucian comes to the aid of Tamlin as his emissary. Lucian does not. Like the human girl. [00:29:04] Speaker B: No, no. [00:29:05] Speaker A: A feyre, first of all. He comes in there, he's like, what the happened to our wolf friends? [00:29:10] Speaker B: You killed him. You killed my friend. Yeah. [00:29:13] Speaker A: Andres we found. We find out that the wolf killed in our first episode. Had a life, had a name. [00:29:18] Speaker B: Yeah, he probably had a Family, probably another little father. [00:29:22] Speaker A: I was a little bit like, are Lucian and Andres lovers? What's going. [00:29:26] Speaker B: Well, that's a good. I mean, what. Maybe. [00:29:28] Speaker A: I mean, he. [00:29:29] Speaker B: He could be a Viking for sure. [00:29:31] Speaker A: It felt a little bit like that to me. [00:29:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, he was. Yeah, he was set. Yeah. Yeah. Y. [00:29:36] Speaker A: And I'm like, this is like a workplace hazard. [00:29:38] Speaker B: Like. Well, okay. [00:29:41] Speaker A: I don't know. The way I reread. [00:29:43] Speaker B: We need to call hr Alice is [00:29:45] Speaker A: like, sister, we're understaffed. Yeah, look around. We're understaffed. Things have not. Things are not right here. [00:29:52] Speaker B: Jesus. And you killed one of our sentinels. [00:29:54] Speaker A: Yeah. He was just out there working. [00:29:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Would you find out? [00:29:58] Speaker A: He basically, you know, these are just, like, foot soldiers that basically just go along the borders of whatever land is and just do whatever the. Whatever Tamlin's bidding is. Right. But if they should go into human lands, he has magic that can basically glimmer them or cover them, Basically give them a disguise as something that they're not. Right. And that's what happened when he was. He appeared as a wolf. [00:30:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:30:23] Speaker A: He was over there doing something. We don't even know the purpose of their mission over there. [00:30:27] Speaker B: Right. No, I mean, yeah, they. They talk about it later, but, yeah. No, I mean, because I read some of the, like, end of the book, you probably forgot. Like, I kind of know. So it's confusing for me to go back and be like, yeah, we don't know. [00:30:42] Speaker A: I. I remembered there being a reason, but I'm like, God, that these books are so. There's so much that happens. [00:30:47] Speaker B: I know. I know. Yeah. I know. I know. But then when you go back to read, you're like, oh, no, that's not what it is. So, yeah. Yeah. She's a little trickster. [00:30:56] Speaker A: A little trickster. And so basically, it's just contentious. It's contentious at first. [00:31:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:02] Speaker A: Favorite doesn't want to be there. [00:31:03] Speaker B: Bad vibes. [00:31:04] Speaker A: Bad vibes. [00:31:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:05] Speaker A: And for a good reason. [00:31:06] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:07] Speaker A: Favorite doesn't want to be there. She keeps trying to escape writing, wants to write letters back to her family. She doesn't know how to read or write, so we're contending with that. [00:31:16] Speaker B: How many times are you gonna mention that? [00:31:17] Speaker A: I don't want to mention it more than maybe twice, simply because I'm like, I. You know, people make memes and whatever they talk about, like, she doesn't know how to read. [00:31:27] Speaker B: Oh, do they? [00:31:28] Speaker A: Okay. Section. Yeah, I've seen different. It's like, you know, I don't know, like, make memes about like her standing in front of a side and be like this. This can't stop me because I can't read. [00:31:38] Speaker B: Oh my God. [00:31:39] Speaker A: Things like that. [00:31:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, you know, I. I'm like, I, like, I feel bad. [00:31:42] Speaker A: I feel bad too after reading this section because it is something that she has a lot of shame now whenever she's like a queen baddie and she's like. I'm like. [00:31:50] Speaker B: It's like she don't even remember. Remember. [00:31:52] Speaker A: She don't even remember that she was like hooked on phonics like three years before. [00:31:57] Speaker B: I know. Yeah. [00:31:57] Speaker A: So. But yeah, I do feel bad because adult illiteracy is not. [00:32:02] Speaker B: I know, I know. [00:32:04] Speaker A: It's not funny and I hate it. [00:32:05] Speaker B: Her family like hated her and did not. Yeah. Nesta was like, I'm not fucking teaching you. She was like, wait, you can't read. [00:32:13] Speaker A: Whatever. It's just so bad. [00:32:14] Speaker B: I know. [00:32:15] Speaker A: So she's got a lot of shame about this. And she. But she's cunning. So she tries to figure out different ways that possibly she can like, escape, she can do all these things while also like gathering as much intel as she can about this magical, you know, new world that she's sort of in. [00:32:30] Speaker B: Right. [00:32:30] Speaker A: She puts up a fire about eating anything, drinking the fairy wine because she's still relying on all of her ignorant teachings about what the fae are really like. Because mind you, when she comes, when she gets kidnapped, she thinks she's being drugged to hell. Like, she's like, they're gonna drag me into a prison. They're gonna torture me. Yeah, it's gonna be bad. And now she's basically in like a better place than she could have ever dreamed. [00:32:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:32:52] Speaker A: So she has a couple. So one interesting thing about this also is that the vibes are bad. You mentioned this. They're bad for a reason. The magic. The magic that surrounds realm, it's off. [00:33:04] Speaker B: Like, it is off. [00:33:05] Speaker A: The WI fi is for sure is not working. [00:33:07] Speaker B: For sure. Yeah, Staticky. [00:33:09] Speaker A: It's staticky. And some bad characters are floating around that are very dangerous and causing issues. [00:33:18] Speaker B: She's also like, like noticing weird like. Like shiny things, you know? Or like hearing voices that are not there. And it's kind of like, wait, what's going on? [00:33:28] Speaker A: Yeah, they never really discuss, you know, show like what. What is invisible that she's saying. [00:33:34] Speaker B: Right. [00:33:34] Speaker A: She looks out there and she sees some sirens in the. In a lake that she walks past one time. Which is interesting. [00:33:41] Speaker B: Oh, right. Okay. [00:33:42] Speaker A: But she does one day go out on horseback with Lucian. Lucian allows her to go out on horseback one day because she's bored. She has nothing to do because mind you, Tamlin's like, you could do whatever you want to around here. Just like don't leave the. The boundaries of. [00:33:54] Speaker B: Right, right, right. [00:33:55] Speaker A: The. The property. So she goes with Lucian because I mean like, you know, he's pretty safe and he's a Fae so he can hopefully protect her. Right. They go out on h. And then like it just feels like a real deep depression in like a blob form basically passes by them. The bog. The bog. [00:34:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:34:14] Speaker A: And basically it's her first run in with a. [00:34:18] Speaker B: Like a killer magic. [00:34:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Entity. What is it? Is it a. Is it a fairy? [00:34:24] Speaker B: I. I don't know. I think it's like. I think it's just like some. Yeah. Something else. Like it's basically. I don't know if it has a form. I guess it has a form if you look at it. Ye. But yeah, I mean it's sort of just like a feeling. [00:34:38] Speaker A: It is. It feels like the way it's written, it just feels like depressive episodes. [00:34:42] Speaker B: Yeah. And then you. But like it's like, look at me, look at me. And if you look at them then it turns into a form. I think it's just like. Yeah. I mean there are a couple of the. They're like monsters. Yeah. [00:34:54] Speaker A: Yeah. There's monsters running around. She runs into that and she learns like how terrible that is. I mean even the. The trees and the flowers and everything out. The birds like basically still because of whatever this. [00:35:04] Speaker B: She doesn't trust it. Yeah. She's like, what's going on? Yeah. Ye. [00:35:07] Speaker A: And even Lucian is like, don't breathe, don't move. Like, mind your business. You know. And then there's a couple run ins like that. She has a runin with this entity one night. She thinks that she sees her father beckoning her under her bedroom window. So of course she's vulnerable. And she's like, oh, my dad came for me. She runs out after him. Her father, the figure is now running into the. The dark woods. Which doesn't raise any alarms for her. [00:35:31] Speaker B: Yeah. She's like, let me follow. We'll. I. I'll hunt again. Yeah, yeah, I'll hunt for us again. [00:35:36] Speaker A: I'll take care of you. We can paint. And then Tamlin's like, I don't know where the you think you're going. The thing will rip you apart. [00:35:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:35:43] Speaker A: And so puka. I think it's the puka. Yeah. And so basically she's just. She's having like, a number of misadventures on the property. [00:35:51] Speaker B: For sure. Yeah. [00:35:52] Speaker A: And then all the while, her relationship with Tamlin is just cold and weird. [00:35:57] Speaker B: Yeah. He's like. I mean, it's like he wants her there, but he doesn't want her there. Like, it's a very weird. [00:36:04] Speaker A: There's dynamic reason why she's there and why they are allowing her to be there. [00:36:08] Speaker B: Right, right. They keep saying the treaty, which is basically that, like, if you. If you. A human kills a Fae or a fairy, then, like, the treaty says that you must, like, the human must either be killed or come and live in Prythian. Right. [00:36:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:36:24] Speaker B: That was kind of the treaty. Yeah. And so she keeps saying, like, I want to find a loophole. I'm going to, like, talk to Lucian [00:36:30] Speaker A: to go back to the hovel. [00:36:31] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. Yeah. [00:36:33] Speaker A: The way. The way. [00:36:34] Speaker B: Really good food here. [00:36:36] Speaker A: I would. You're on a meal plan. [00:36:37] Speaker B: I know. And Tamlin says that he took care of her family. [00:36:43] Speaker A: She's just like, not getting it. I'm like, this shows you're 19 years old. This girl's 19 years old. It's reveal to us as well. [00:36:49] Speaker B: Oh, yes. Yeah. And they're like. They don't even like you. You know, I mean, just go and live your life. [00:36:54] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:36:55] Speaker B: Beautiful, magical place. But, you know, I get it, though, because you come there and you're like, wait, something's off. [00:37:02] Speaker A: Off. [00:37:02] Speaker B: This is weird. I don't trust it. Especially for her. She's got trauma, you know, she has. She's had to learn how to. [00:37:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:37:11] Speaker B: Observe things. [00:37:12] Speaker A: So, you know, she's doing her best. [00:37:14] Speaker B: She's doing her best. Yeah. [00:37:16] Speaker A: You know, it's so interesting to read this back because obviously this is a reread for us. And the energy between her and Tamlin is never, like, settled. It's never comfortable. [00:37:28] Speaker B: No, no, it's always. Yeah. It always feels unsafe a little bit. [00:37:32] Speaker A: It always feels un. Unsafe. And, you know, like, not to give anything away, but the first time we read this, I was like, I know this isn't in game. Every time I, like, look at this book, I see her and some other man. So I don't even know whatever. So I never believed in whatever the story was that was trying to be told initially. But it's so crazy because it's like I can't. I can't even fall for. For Tamlin because I don't feel safe. He's not funny. He's not particularly engaging. He's not. [00:37:59] Speaker B: Not very Smart. No, he's like very angry. [00:38:02] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:38:02] Speaker B: You know, it's interesting because like, even though Lucian, like, he doesn't obviously doesn't like her, like at one point he like kind of puts her in danger. I still feel safer with Lucian. [00:38:12] Speaker A: I love me some Lucian. [00:38:14] Speaker B: I know. Me too. [00:38:14] Speaker A: Quick witted. [00:38:15] Speaker B: Me too. [00:38:16] Speaker A: He's funny. [00:38:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:17] Speaker A: And he's like. He's sympathetic. [00:38:20] Speaker B: Yeah, he is. Yeah. He's. I mean, yeah. [00:38:22] Speaker A: He. [00:38:22] Speaker B: He just seems like he actually has feelings. You know, it's interesting they mentioned twice that Tamlin has a heart of stone. And so I was like, what's that about? Does that come back around or we just like I. At first I was like, are all Fae, Like, I can't remember, do they have hearts? But they do. Yeah. It's just Tamlin. [00:38:41] Speaker A: It's stone. Yeah. There was something about. There's something about Feyre fighting for herself and like really kind of showing up as a stronger person. Like mentally and physically that like, I think turn, like allows Lucian to turn a corner. [00:38:55] Speaker B: Right? For sure. Sure for sure. [00:38:57] Speaker A: Like, he has a lot of respect for her. When she goes and confronts the serial, she. [00:39:01] Speaker B: She has a heart of the. What is it? Survivor. Yeah. What? Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:39:07] Speaker A: So she goes and she. Lucia basically gives her a. A class and all of the terrible monsters that are looming around. [00:39:15] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:39:15] Speaker A: And she asks in particular who. You know, she asked because I think Alice tells her about the cereal at first. Right? [00:39:22] Speaker B: Or no, no. I don't know. I think it's. Oh, maybe. But she asks at some point or. Yeah, maybe Alice is like, yeah, the only being that can tell, like tell you the truth, no matter what. [00:39:36] Speaker A: And then she picks around the. The subject with Lucian and he picks up very quickly that she wants to like, do it herself. Yeah. And he doesn't actually think she'll do it really. [00:39:45] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:39:46] Speaker A: And so he. He gives her a weapon to use in her maybe just day out in the afternoon. And maybe if she runs into a cereal, then he'll be nearby because he's hunting or doing whatever so he can come and find her. He doesn't actually take her serious. [00:40:00] Speaker B: No. He's like, go, bring a chicken. Bring a fresh chicken. Yeah. Set up a trap and there you go. [00:40:05] Speaker A: There you go. So she does it because that's what she's gonna do. [00:40:08] Speaker B: Yep. Yep. [00:40:09] Speaker A: And she runs into this like, older than the world. [00:40:14] Speaker B: It was like a little Voldemort. I felt like a little bit. Yeah. A spindly, bony. Yeah. [00:40:20] Speaker A: Like gray creature and. Yeah. Traps him and starts Asking him some questions. And he was really about to reveal, like, basically the history of the world. [00:40:29] Speaker B: I know. [00:40:29] Speaker A: And the. [00:40:30] Speaker B: The whole series. Yeah. [00:40:31] Speaker A: We would have been wrapped up in 200 pages. [00:40:33] Speaker B: I know, I know. [00:40:35] Speaker A: That's it. That's it. Thank you so much. But they get interrupted by basically three. [00:40:41] Speaker B: The Naga. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:40:43] Speaker A: Who just basically want to, you know, rape, pillage and torment Feyre. But the cereal tells her that Tamlin is a high lord. [00:40:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:40:53] Speaker A: And tells her to just vaguely. Just stay with the high. [00:40:56] Speaker B: Stay with the High Lord. [00:40:57] Speaker A: You'll be. You'll be safe. So she's like this. This being knows everything. So. Yeah, I'm just gonna listen. So when these Naga come out, come out of nowhere to attack them. Sweet angel. He was trapped. [00:41:10] Speaker B: I know. He was trapped me. He was. Was like, please, please let me go. [00:41:13] Speaker A: So she saves him. She, like, has, like, one shot, one kill to be able to, like, free him from this trap. So she does it. She saves him before she saves herself. [00:41:22] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:41:22] Speaker A: And basically goes on the run from these. These creatures that are after her to do a lot of bodily harm to her. [00:41:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:41:30] Speaker A: And then at the last minute, here comes our man. [00:41:32] Speaker B: Here comes our. Well, not our man. No, not my man. [00:41:35] Speaker A: Not my. Not my man. But. Amen. [00:41:38] Speaker B: Amen. And he said he. Does he turn into his beast form? No, I think he stay a m. Male form with his claws out. Yeah, yeah. The cloth. Really? What do we think of the claw? That freaks me out. [00:41:49] Speaker A: I don't. I don't love it. [00:41:50] Speaker B: And, like, there are times when they, like, just come out, like, a little bit. [00:41:54] Speaker A: It's giving like Hugh Jackman's wolverine. [00:41:56] Speaker B: Yes. It's giving you Jackman's. But it's giving, like. Okay, I know when his anger is coming out and like that, like, they just. [00:42:02] Speaker A: There's mention of them, like, peeking out a little. Oh, Lord, I like that. [00:42:06] Speaker B: I know. I know. Anyway, she kills one of them and then he kills a couple of them, right? Yeah. Yeah. [00:42:14] Speaker A: So slaughters all of them. [00:42:16] Speaker B: Slaughters. Yeah. And then something changes with them. [00:42:19] Speaker A: Yeah. All of a sudden she's like. [00:42:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:21] Speaker A: And he's like, so, what's your plans for tomorrow? And she's like, I don't know. I don't really have anything. Like. Well. Well, there's. [00:42:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:31] Speaker A: She's like, I just wanna. She wants to pick. There is a time where she wants to write. [00:42:36] Speaker B: Yes. Letter. [00:42:38] Speaker A: The letter. And so she spends a lot of time in this room, basically, where there's a big mural on the wall that basically Tells the history of the Fae, which is super interesting. And she's trying. She's reading these books and she's pitiful because she's like writing words she doesn't know and she's. She's just trying to figure it out. [00:42:56] Speaker B: Unique. [00:42:56] Speaker A: I know. [00:42:57] Speaker B: What's the other one? Unusual. [00:43:01] Speaker A: It's pitiful. [00:43:01] Speaker B: I know. [00:43:03] Speaker A: And I'm not laughing at her not knowing how to read. What I'm laughing at is basically in like three books when like her life is like fabulous. And I'm like, I can't believe he [00:43:14] Speaker B: liked a girl who didn't raise. Seriously. I know. Seriously. Yeah. A 19 year old who couldn't read. I know, I know. [00:43:22] Speaker A: But right now I think she's. [00:43:23] Speaker B: Yeah, it is sad. It's sad. [00:43:24] Speaker A: So she's trying to learn how to read. Read. He finds the things that she's practicing. He offers an opportunity to like, help her write her letters. Help her read. She does not want that. [00:43:34] Speaker B: No. She's like, I. Yeah, it's the shame. And I get that. [00:43:37] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it's pitiful. But he's like, you. She. She mentions at one point that she likes to paint. And he's like, oh, well, I can get you some paints. He's like, well, if you really like that, I have something I can show you. Turns out this man has a whole damn art gallery in the house. [00:43:52] Speaker B: That was crazy. Like, and he never goes into it. [00:43:55] Speaker A: I'm like, what the is down here? [00:43:56] Speaker B: Jesus. A whole. What is that? Art Institute. [00:44:01] Speaker A: But yes, yes, Jesus. But what killed me reading this is that favor goes into it. And she's so moved and so inspired by these paintings. She's like, I gotta paint my own masterpieces. And you're like, you don't know what the you're doing. Like, what the is going on? [00:44:18] Speaker B: Also like, these are fairies that we're painting. Like these are like magical beings. [00:44:23] Speaker A: And she's over here like, let me get my watercolors. [00:44:25] Speaker B: She's like a 19 year. I'm a 19 year old human. I'm gonna. I'm gonna go out in the garden, paint some flowers. [00:44:31] Speaker A: These paintings look terrible. You know they do. [00:44:34] Speaker B: I know, I know. [00:44:37] Speaker A: I'm not moved by the idea of this girl painting anything. So, yeah, things start to change. There is also a moment where they go out to this infinity pool. [00:44:45] Speaker B: Yeah, that's weird. [00:44:46] Speaker A: And it's full of starlight. And they basically get down to their underwear and get into the starlight pool. And what I think I'm like, the starlight is absolutely Going to give you a yeast infection. [00:44:56] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. [00:44:57] Speaker A: Of course. [00:44:59] Speaker B: I'm like, what even is it? I know. It's like all of a sudden, like, he's wiping starlight off his face. It's like, what the. Yeah. Meanwhile, Lucian has got a big bottle of wine, and he's like, all right. [00:45:13] Speaker A: My man is like, see y' all later. [00:45:14] Speaker B: Okay. [00:45:15] Speaker A: Let me know if I need to leave. He's like, I thought this was just gonna be, like, a friendly. Now he's a third wheel. He's like, I didn't sign up for this. [00:45:25] Speaker B: God. He lays down and has this full bottle of wine. [00:45:28] Speaker A: Yes. [00:45:29] Speaker B: See you later. [00:45:30] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah. And also, whole time, I. I just have to keep reminding myself this man has a mask on. Yeah, I know. [00:45:37] Speaker B: I always forget that. [00:45:38] Speaker A: I always forget that. And then in these moments where it's, like, intimate, I'm like, the mat. [00:45:43] Speaker B: I know. I know. And she never talks, really, about. She's never like. And then I touched his mask. Yeah. [00:45:50] Speaker A: But there are moments, I think, even with the pool, that she's like a. A bead of water. [00:45:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:45:57] Speaker A: Like, you know, going around an emerald or something like that. It was just so weird. I'm like, ew. God, this is terrible. [00:46:05] Speaker B: I know. It really brings you out. Not that, like, it's good. Like, the vibes are still bad, but you're like. Like a mask. [00:46:12] Speaker A: A ma. A mask. [00:46:13] Speaker B: Like, every time they mention. I'm like, oh, no. [00:46:16] Speaker A: I'm like, please stop. You know what's interesting throughout this also, is that she's. As she's settling into her new life here, she's having dreams, right. [00:46:24] Speaker B: Of that woman. Yeah. [00:46:25] Speaker A: And there is a mention of, like, something watching her. [00:46:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:46:29] Speaker A: And I'm like, that's interesting. What is that? [00:46:32] Speaker B: That would freak me out. Oh, yeah. I know what that is. Yeah. Yeah. [00:46:36] Speaker A: Which it's so fun to go back. Back and read this and, like, pick up on little things here and there. [00:46:41] Speaker B: I know, because at first you're like, elf on the shelf. [00:46:43] Speaker A: What? [00:46:44] Speaker B: Somebody's watching me. [00:46:45] Speaker A: No, that is a very uncomfortable feeling. I mean, it depends on who's watching me. [00:46:49] Speaker B: I know. I know. [00:46:52] Speaker A: And so, yeah. [00:46:54] Speaker B: Happens. [00:46:55] Speaker A: So then they. They basically got into a place where everybody's, like, living harmoniously. [00:47:00] Speaker B: Right. [00:47:00] Speaker A: And then one night, there's commotion. [00:47:04] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. And she's, like, here, screaming. [00:47:06] Speaker A: She hears screaming. And she goes downstairs, and they rushing a phase. A face, screaming bloody murder at the top of their lungs into the foyer of the mansion. And they lay him on sort of the. The table there where There's a huge floral spread. [00:47:24] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:47:25] Speaker A: And his wings have been ripped off of his body. And he's bleeding. He's bleeding out. [00:47:31] Speaker B: God. [00:47:31] Speaker A: There's no. He's not gonna make it. [00:47:32] Speaker B: No. [00:47:34] Speaker A: And he's in shock. Yeah, he's in shock. And Tamlin is not. I don't think Tammy was even doing anything to no. Provide any medical care. [00:47:46] Speaker B: Well, and it was also like. Yeah, it was a little bit like, well, at least take away his pain if you're magical. [00:47:52] Speaker A: Great, great. You know, great point. [00:47:53] Speaker B: Jesus, give him some more magical morphe. [00:47:56] Speaker A: I know. And favor is doing more in terms of like providing comfort. Comfort at that moment than she wonderful death doula. [00:48:05] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [00:48:05] Speaker A: Put down the paint, sister. [00:48:07] Speaker B: I know, I know. Let's make you a hospice nurse. [00:48:11] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, that's. I think that's her calling. So she basically holds this fairy's hand. She says, you'll get your wings back. Basically just like ushers him into the fairy afterlife, which I want to see what that's like. [00:48:24] Speaker B: Yeah, no, maybe we're in it right now. [00:48:27] Speaker A: I can't imagine this. This is hell. This is the depths of hell that we're in right now. Yeah. But essentially, yes. So the fairy guys. [00:48:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:39] Speaker A: And Feyre shook because she's like, what the is going on? [00:48:42] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:43] Speaker A: Like something is not. Something's rotten here. [00:48:46] Speaker B: Meanwhile, Lucian, like throws up and leaves. Yeah. He can't handle it. It's like, my man, I'm sure you've seen this before. You were at war, you were deployed several times. [00:49:01] Speaker A: Maybe it's a little bit of like family trauma. [00:49:03] Speaker B: I don't know. Later they talk about that. Yeah. [00:49:06] Speaker A: Because we do learn that Lucian is basically banished from his homeland. [00:49:10] Speaker B: He killed his brother. That was a terrible story. [00:49:15] Speaker A: Yes. Well, it seems like his brothers, basically the strongest of the brothers, will inherit the throne, not necessarily the oldest. So basically it's a bloodbath. Lucian being the. The sweet king that he is, he's like, I don't care about the throne. So basically that puts a target on his back because they just want to be mean to him. So basically he goes out here and he finds a Fae that he loves. Now he's like nobility. Like, he's high born, like, high. [00:49:38] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:49:39] Speaker A: He met a girl who was like, from the wrong side of the border. [00:49:42] Speaker B: But I know Jesus got like a [00:49:44] Speaker A: lowly Fae and wanted to marry her. The family basically forbid it and killed her, right? [00:49:50] Speaker B: Yeah, they killed her, like in front of him. Yeah. [00:49:53] Speaker A: And then. Yeah, they tracked him down to Kill him. Right. [00:49:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, he. Yes. He renounced his title. [00:50:03] Speaker A: Yes. [00:50:03] Speaker B: And went to the Supreme Court. And then I think that. Oh, because. Because he, like, renounced his title. Like, his brother. Brothers could kill him. [00:50:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:13] Speaker B: And so three of them went after him, and then he killed one and Tamlin killed two. [00:50:18] Speaker A: So then that leaves us with. Eris wasn't in there. [00:50:21] Speaker B: Eris wasn't in there. Yeah. But, you know, every time I read about the. That family, I'm like, okay, I know who's. [00:50:32] Speaker A: I don't know why I love her [00:50:34] Speaker B: as you love him. [00:50:36] Speaker A: We'll talk about him at a later. [00:50:37] Speaker B: Mysterious. [00:50:42] Speaker A: Literally, if we were characters in this, I'd have to be looking over at you across the room being like, sister, who is that man? Jilly, we've heard him say two words. I know. [00:50:53] Speaker B: I know, know. I know. But I love him, mama. [00:50:59] Speaker A: But I love him. [00:51:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:51:05] Speaker A: So it's very interesting. [00:51:06] Speaker B: Very interesting. Very traumatic. [00:51:07] Speaker A: And. And then I think, Bas. After this, what's. Our. Tamlin basically runs off into the fields, right? [00:51:17] Speaker B: Yes. After. To bury. To bury the fairy. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:51:20] Speaker A: So he takes them to bury, and Fey was like, I come. He goes, no, no. [00:51:23] Speaker B: He's like, I got to do this alone. Yeah. She's like, okay, let me go wash off all this blood. I. She was like, talking about, like, the blood trailing her being cold. And I was like, alice isn't there? How did you. And then she was talking about, like, she got in the bath, and I'm like, oh, my God, that's some bloody water. [00:51:41] Speaker A: She don't know. Alice is like, the. Is going on. [00:51:44] Speaker B: Alice is like, jesus Christ. [00:51:47] Speaker A: So then she wakes up the next morning. Morning. The crime scene is completely fixed. Fixed. [00:51:51] Speaker B: Which, by the way, we'll have to talk about this later. We'll talk about it later. I mean, yeah. They basically, like. I know that when they, like when they magically clean, they're not actually doing a deep clean. So I'm wondering, are they doing deep clean, or are they basically just like, painting over a dirty wall? [00:52:11] Speaker A: I forgot all about that. [00:52:12] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Yeah. So basically, it's like. Like, just like. It's like wearing. It's like putting on sanitizer when you have dirt on your hands. Do you know what I mean? Like, it doesn't get up. [00:52:24] Speaker A: All the stuff everybody's just living in, Phil. [00:52:27] Speaker B: Everybody's living in filth. And, you know, I can't do the blood. [00:52:30] Speaker A: No, I know you can't do the blood. You hate it. [00:52:32] Speaker B: I hate it. [00:52:33] Speaker A: Yeah. No, [00:52:36] Speaker B: that and Then what happens from there? I'm trying to think. [00:52:38] Speaker A: So she sees her man again. [00:52:40] Speaker B: Yeah. And then they do. They. They just, you know. Yeah. [00:52:42] Speaker A: They're basically. [00:52:44] Speaker B: He. [00:52:44] Speaker A: He writes poems for her using the words that she tried to define. [00:52:48] Speaker B: I know. [00:52:49] Speaker A: Which I thought was kind of sweet. [00:52:51] Speaker B: I mean, a little bit. I was like, come on. [00:52:54] Speaker A: At first I was like, are you making fun? What's going on? [00:52:56] Speaker B: I know, I know. [00:52:57] Speaker A: But I think he's trying to connect. It's just falling short because they don't have a connection. [00:53:02] Speaker B: No, they don't. There's absolutely zero chemistry. Even when they, like. When he, like, kisses her hands, first of all, there's blood on her hands, so then there's blood on his mouth. And you wouldn't be the first time. Not in Acotar, but. So, you know Isaac Hill was into. [00:53:22] Speaker A: Isaac Hill. No. Farm boy. [00:53:25] Speaker B: No. But. Yeah. So, like, there's definitely, like, something blossoming. Blossoming. But it's, like, not interesting at all. [00:53:33] Speaker A: They're not interesting to me. [00:53:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:53:35] Speaker A: He turns to her and he goes, I play a mean fiddle. [00:53:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:53:39] Speaker A: And I've been invited to this music festival. [00:53:42] Speaker B: God, I forgot that. He did. He played the fiddle. [00:53:45] Speaker A: Not in this section. [00:53:46] Speaker B: Okay, okay, okay. [00:53:47] Speaker A: He goes, but I'm basically a opening act at Burning man this weekend, and you can't come. No. Hey. She's like, oh, I'd love to see that. It's too bad. [00:53:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Too bad. Stay in your room [00:54:02] Speaker A: and forget that you ever heard any of this. [00:54:04] Speaker B: Seriously. It's like, why tell her? [00:54:06] Speaker A: That's what I'm saying. [00:54:07] Speaker B: I mean, I guess she'll hear that. She would hear the drums. [00:54:10] Speaker A: She was hearing those drums. [00:54:11] Speaker B: Yeah. She was like. And, you know, she was being pulled. Yep. [00:54:13] Speaker A: She was. She felt a little string in her gut. Yeah. [00:54:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Yep. [00:54:17] Speaker A: And so the night of Fire Fest. [00:54:20] Speaker B: Firefest. [00:54:21] Speaker A: And. Or the day. And so Fey was walking the grounds, and she sees them setting up for the music festival. [00:54:28] Speaker B: I'm gonna miss this. Why? What? [00:54:31] Speaker A: She's like, who's performing? [00:54:32] Speaker B: What's going on? Who's headlining? [00:54:34] Speaker A: Meanwhile, Tamlin's over here, like, you know, resining up his bow. [00:54:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, my God. When he came out in, like, no shirt, but just his baldrick. [00:54:43] Speaker A: Yeah. And. And then he looks there and goes, have fun tonight. [00:54:47] Speaker B: He's like, stay inside. I know. She's like, what the. And everybody's gone. Alice is gone. [00:54:53] Speaker A: Alice is like, I'm off today. [00:54:54] Speaker B: There's no food. There's no room service. [00:54:56] Speaker A: No, no. [00:54:57] Speaker B: She's like, what the am I going to do. [00:54:59] Speaker A: No. So she goes into her. Okay, so the, the, the day is going, the sun is setting. [00:55:04] Speaker B: But he also says, set a trap. He's like, lock your door and set a trap. I know, it's like, what I mean, [00:55:11] Speaker A: this would have kind of been the perfect time for her to try to escape back to Pry for sure. [00:55:15] Speaker B: For sure. But somehow she's like attached to Tamlin now. Yeah. [00:55:20] Speaker A: I hate it. [00:55:20] Speaker B: Anyway, Fire fest. [00:55:23] Speaker A: Okay, so the sun's setting. The bonfires. The bonfires are being lit. [00:55:27] Speaker B: They're going. [00:55:28] Speaker A: They start playing these drums. And so she's like, well, now it feels like Laap Paloa is up and running in my backyard. I need to understand. [00:55:38] Speaker B: The killers are on the stage. [00:55:42] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:55:44] Speaker B: And everybody's dirty. [00:55:47] Speaker A: She's in a room. [00:55:48] Speaker B: Room. [00:55:48] Speaker A: Yeah. Everybody's in the drug induced haze. And the drums start beating and she's like, I. I'm gonna heed the call. [00:55:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:55:56] Speaker A: She literally feels like being like she has to go see it. She has to go see what's going on. So she like throws her door open. She like flies down the stairs. [00:56:06] Speaker B: She's like, where is everybody? But whatever, I don't care. [00:56:09] Speaker A: She goes out back. She like gets a saddle on a horse. [00:56:12] Speaker B: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Bear back. [00:56:16] Speaker A: And she's like, I'm off. [00:56:18] Speaker B: She's like, come on, let's go. [00:56:20] Speaker A: Yeah. So she rides to the festival grounds and nobody's paying her a lick of attention. She does have like a cloak over her head and. [00:56:30] Speaker B: And weirdly, like, she can't really see faces. Like, you know, it's like there's a glamour over them. You know, they're setting up tents, they're getting ready. [00:56:38] Speaker A: Eyes wide shut. [00:56:39] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. [00:56:42] Speaker A: Yeah. They're like, I don't want anybody to know that I was here, so I'm gonna glamour my own face. Like, you can't really see it. And like nobody's sensing that she's there. And she's like, maybe because there's so many Fae here, they're like, they're like not smelling me or whatever. [00:56:55] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:56:56] Speaker A: And they have such a high. [00:56:57] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Faye and Fay and then the fairies and the like, they're from different courts. I mean, that. I feel like that's important too. Yeah. [00:57:05] Speaker A: So it seems like we'll get more detail, I assume as we go forward about what this night is. But essentially they're like, we've got this festival called Calan Mine. There's a ritual that goes every spring. Yeah, yeah. There's a ritual that goes down. I can't tell you much more than that. [00:57:21] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:57:22] Speaker A: Like, it's classified information. So she's walking around this fairgrounds. She open. She looks over and she sees, like, this cave opening. And it kind of. She can see, like, it go in, but kind of turns off to the left. And there's, like, lights and everything kind of bouncing off the wall. So something's going down. [00:57:39] Speaker B: And there's like a whole, like, parade of people like, that are like, yeah. Yeah. Yep. [00:57:45] Speaker A: So she backs away from. [00:57:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:50] Speaker A: What's happening? [00:57:50] Speaker B: She's like, I don't know. Maybe I'm not supposed to be here. [00:57:53] Speaker A: Yeah. She gets on the periphery of the grounds. [00:57:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:56] Speaker A: Like, trying, I guess, to get closer back to her horse. And three, really hateful. They kind of remind me of Naga. But they're. They're. Yeah, they're fairies. [00:58:07] Speaker B: They're fairy, or are they high? Like, maybe. I think they're fairies. [00:58:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:58:10] Speaker B: Yeah. They're not. Like, they don't look like humans. No. Yeah, yeah. [00:58:13] Speaker A: And they basically are like, nobody can help you here. You're not supposed to be here. We found you vulnerable. We've realized that you're a human girl. Like, nobody can do anything, and you're basically ours to do anything. [00:58:26] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:58:27] Speaker A: And so she's like, oh, like, I've gotten out myself out of a lot of situations. Right. [00:58:33] Speaker B: She's like, I don't know about this one. [00:58:34] Speaker A: I made it out of the hovel. [00:58:35] Speaker B: I know I'm gonna be able to make it out. And she's like, I don't think Tamla's coming. [00:58:41] Speaker A: So essentially, they start, like, pushing her around, and she starts to fall towards. [00:58:45] Speaker B: She falls. [00:58:46] Speaker A: And then all of a sudden, she is steadied by warm, steady hands. [00:58:51] Speaker B: Broad, broad. A broad hand. [00:58:54] Speaker A: And she stands up and she sees. Looks into the face of what she says is the most beautiful man she's ever seen. And he says, there you are. I've been looking every. [00:59:05] Speaker B: Everywhere for you. This is a very important line. This is a. [00:59:09] Speaker A: If there is one line in your life to remember, put a pin in that. [00:59:13] Speaker B: It's basically, I'm coming to the cottage for Acotar. [00:59:16] Speaker A: Exactly. Absolutely. It is very much that in terms of the Acotar lore. And so then basically, he turns back to these men who want to commit a crime, and he goes, enjoy the right. [00:59:31] Speaker B: Yeah. In like, a very. Yeah. Like. [00:59:33] Speaker A: Like they. They walk off. [00:59:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. They're like, okay. Okay. And I think I know why. I think I know. They probably know him. [00:59:43] Speaker A: They know who he is. He's also like, clo. Everything about him is just, like, midnight black. [00:59:50] Speaker B: His hair. [00:59:51] Speaker A: It looks like this. The light is, like, being, like, sucked into it. His clothes, everything about it. He's. He's beautiful. [00:59:58] Speaker B: Uhhuh. [00:59:58] Speaker A: He's beautiful. He's. Not to be with. [01:00:00] Speaker B: Yeah. He's. [01:00:00] Speaker A: But they do know who he is. [01:00:01] Speaker B: Yeah, they do. Proceeds. Yeah. I mean, for sure. Big dick energy. [01:00:06] Speaker A: Kind and, like, warm. [01:00:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:00:09] Speaker A: Big dick energy. Like, not. Not an. Because he doesn't know. [01:00:13] Speaker B: He just is like a. Like a charming. Yeah. Smooth, like, you better fucking leave right now. [01:00:18] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. [01:00:19] Speaker B: And they're like, oh, okay. [01:00:20] Speaker A: And so they stand there, and he's amused by her. [01:00:25] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. [01:00:26] Speaker A: He asks her a series of questions. She can't really answer them or give him, like, direct answers. And he's just, like, tickled by it. [01:00:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:00:32] Speaker A: Yeah. He's not annoyed by it. [01:00:34] Speaker B: No. [01:00:35] Speaker A: In the way that Tamlin would be or, like, angry. Like, why are you out here? That's the interesting thing about this, too, is that everybody who knows her, everybody, like Lucian. Lucian sees her, right? [01:00:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [01:00:46] Speaker A: Do we get to that point in this? [01:00:48] Speaker B: I mean. I don't know. [01:00:48] Speaker A: I think I read a little bit. I read just a little bit further. Lucian sees her and, like, flips. [01:00:53] Speaker B: His show is like, tamlin's gonna. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:00:56] Speaker A: My man. My man who just saw her, who just saved her, is like, I love that you're out here. [01:01:01] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, good to see you. [01:01:05] Speaker A: See you soon. [01:01:05] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [01:01:07] Speaker A: And, yeah. Basically lets her walk because he tries to bring her somewhere. He tries to grab her arm and bring her somewhere. I'm not going with you. And then he. He drops it. [01:01:17] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't know that. [01:01:18] Speaker A: Yeah. He's like, I want to show you something. And she goes, I'm not going. Oh. [01:01:21] Speaker B: And he's like, I'm right. [01:01:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:01:23] Speaker B: He just lets her go independent. [01:01:25] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:01:25] Speaker B: Yep. [01:01:26] Speaker A: And then he just smiles at her and lets. And, like, lets her walk up. That's my man. [01:01:29] Speaker B: I know. I know. [01:01:31] Speaker A: This is my man. I was reading that, and I was like, this is. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I'm like, Sarah did write a good one with this. [01:01:40] Speaker B: The confidence. Yes, yes, absolutely. Like, let me save you, but also, you can go and have some fun. [01:01:46] Speaker A: I'll see you soon. [01:01:47] Speaker B: See you later. [01:01:48] Speaker A: He's confident because he. I. This. I know I'm going to see her again. [01:01:52] Speaker B: Right. Although, I mean, we can talk about this. I don't think he actually knew who she was at that Point. [01:01:57] Speaker A: No, he did. I do think that he is probably a little amused, though, because I do think that he, at that point realized this is the person through which. [01:02:05] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, there's something. [01:02:06] Speaker A: We won't reveal any of that, but basically, yeah, I think he was probably amused that it was this per. This thing. [01:02:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:12] Speaker A: He was like, I. Where did this. This is the last thing I would have probably imagined it being, you know, Know. [01:02:18] Speaker B: Well, importantly. Okay, so it ends there. But importantly, we forgot about this. That, like, she's introduced to the idea of, like, the mating bonds. Oh, yeah, yeah. So Tamlin talks about his family history, which, like, his dad was a. Just a bad man. Just a. A villain. And he was like. Had slaves. Human slaves. [01:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [01:02:40] Speaker B: Trafficker. [01:02:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:02:41] Speaker B: I mean, so, so, so. And then his brothers are like that too. [01:02:45] Speaker A: You know, that made me kind of look at the Spring Court houses. [01:02:49] Speaker B: Absolutely. They described it. When they described the house, I was like, oh, Jesus. [01:02:53] Speaker A: It's giving Tara that's. [01:02:56] Speaker B: It's way down in Georgia right now. Yeah, I know, I know. The white columns. I was like, oh, God. And the foyer with that, like, flowers and the. I mean, not that I've ever. Because I have never been in a plantation, but. But it's giving Tara. Yeah, Tara. [01:03:15] Speaker A: She's crying over that. [01:03:17] Speaker B: But yeah, it's like. And his brothers were bad. Like, his brothers were slave owners. And then he was like, I'm not. I'm not done with that. And so. But then he talked about how the brothers and the. Then the dad were killed. And then he didn't really talk about. But he. But in terms of the mating bond, like, his mom and dad, like, had this mating bond. And so it's like, even though he was a terrible man, like, his. His mom loved him anyway. Yeah. But. So she's like hearing about the mating mind. Yeah. [01:03:47] Speaker A: And she's like, I want that for myself. [01:03:49] Speaker B: She's like, oh, what if Tamlin's it? [01:03:52] Speaker A: Oh, God, girl. No. [01:03:54] Speaker B: She literally was like, I wonder if it can happen with humans and fairies. And it's like, are you kidding me? The whole 19 year old really gets me. It really gets me. [01:04:05] Speaker A: On one breath, she's like, I just want enough money to take care of my dad. And then the next she's like, I want to be married. And you're like, it paints all day. [01:04:18] Speaker B: Yeah, whatever it is, she wants to paint all day. [01:04:21] Speaker A: And it's terrible. I hate that storyline in these books too. [01:04:25] Speaker B: I mean, it's worse than Bob Ross. Although Bob Ross has some Bob Ross. [01:04:29] Speaker A: Icon. That is a talented man. He goes, you want a tree? Let me give them to you. [01:04:35] Speaker B: This, I'll show you right here. [01:04:36] Speaker A: This is basically my. What I picture, my kindergarten paintings. [01:04:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Like finger paintings. I know. Yeah. [01:04:43] Speaker A: She keeps thinking, like, my sister's probably. My paintings back home in the hovel are probably all weathered away and gone. [01:04:50] Speaker B: Who cares? Who cares? You know, the stars are like the five pointed star. You know, there's like. [01:04:57] Speaker A: Like the. [01:04:57] Speaker B: Like the way you draw it. [01:04:59] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:04:59] Speaker B: I mean, the way I still draw it, but the way, like, third graders. [01:05:02] Speaker A: Every day. Every day. Day. Yeah. So thank you. [01:05:08] Speaker B: That's it. [01:05:09] Speaker A: Yeah. I was looking everywhere for you. [01:05:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [01:05:13] Speaker A: Or I've been looking for you. [01:05:14] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. Then. Then it was like, we're on, cuz. I mean, I knew when I first read that, I was like, okay, this is something. Like when she refers to him as the most beautiful man, I was like, [01:05:26] Speaker A: okay, that's actually in the chapter. She goes and stand and looking at the most beautiful man I've ever seen. [01:05:31] Speaker B: Yes. [01:05:31] Speaker A: And I was like, sister, pack it up. Let's go home. [01:05:33] Speaker B: Yeah, Seriously, go with him. [01:05:36] Speaker A: She doesn't want to. Although. [01:05:37] Speaker B: I don't know. I wouldn't have. I wouldn't have either. [01:05:38] Speaker A: He would have been like. [01:05:40] Speaker B: I also wouldn't have, like, gone and gotten drunk like she did, you know, with a bunch. Yeah, with a bunch of fairies that tried to rape her. Like, come on. [01:05:47] Speaker A: When was that? [01:05:48] Speaker B: Later. You'll see. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. [01:05:50] Speaker A: God. [01:05:51] Speaker B: I think that's why Lucian gets mad at her, right? [01:05:55] Speaker A: This is Maybe. Maybe this is ahead. That did not happen. [01:06:00] Speaker B: Okay, okay, okay. [01:06:01] Speaker A: That didn't happen at Calamine, night one. [01:06:03] Speaker B: But basically, that's where we leave off. So we're in the middle of Calamai. Something's going on. [01:06:09] Speaker A: I'm waiting for my man to come out here and play his fiddle. [01:06:11] Speaker B: Huh? Yep, he will. [01:06:12] Speaker A: Ew. You've got a man in there with his baldrick on, playing a fiddle. [01:06:16] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [01:06:16] Speaker A: You've got this man in a nice tailored black outfit. [01:06:20] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. At least see where he goes. [01:06:24] Speaker A: I mean, at least get his number. [01:06:26] Speaker B: I know. Seriously, God, at least be like, thanks for saving me. Can we meet up later? [01:06:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Where'd you come from? What's your story? Yeah, she's spending no time. Whatever. I can't. I just can't. [01:06:39] Speaker B: I know. Okay, so where's Tamlin? [01:06:41] Speaker A: No, off. We don't care where he is. Can't wait to see my man again. [01:06:45] Speaker B: I really can't. I know you know. I know I do. You know where we see him again? [01:06:50] Speaker A: I know that's storming back into that house. And they glamour her, and she's invisible behind the curtain. [01:06:57] Speaker B: But he's like, I know. You there. [01:06:59] Speaker A: No. And what I love about it is, like, she's over, right? She's, like, standing behind. [01:07:03] Speaker B: Behind Lucian. Yeah. Yeah. [01:07:04] Speaker A: And he walks. He walks into the dining room. Sorry, we're getting way ahead of ourselves. Walks into the dining room. He has beef with Tamlin. He and Tamlin talk back and forth, and then he's walking out of the room. And right as he's about to leave, he, like, slowly turns back because he realized there's another place setting that I'm squirming. And then he go. And then he follows that nose of is. And he walks up to Lucian. He pushes Lucian out of the way. [01:07:29] Speaker B: No. And he. He enters her mind. [01:07:32] Speaker A: She says she feels like talons. I'm like, yeah, get in here. [01:07:39] Speaker B: Let me see what's going on. [01:07:40] Speaker A: You know, it's so weird because under any normal circumstance, we would not be down. [01:07:43] Speaker B: No. God, no. We'd be like, [01:07:47] Speaker A: so. You know, she wrote the hell out of this character for us to be like, come in. Yeah. [01:07:52] Speaker B: Open the door. [01:07:54] Speaker A: See everything that's in there. Love that. Okay, well, that's it. [01:07:59] Speaker B: I think that's it. Yeah. So next time, we. Yeah. So we'll see the end of Fyre fest and some more of Tamlin and Feyre. [01:08:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:08:08] Speaker B: And that's about it. And then we do see our man, though. [01:08:12] Speaker A: I can't wait. I love every. Every viewing, every sighting of having. [01:08:16] Speaker B: No. Okay. We think that's about it. [01:08:19] Speaker A: Thank you so much for tuning in. If you're still here. [01:08:21] Speaker B: If you are still here. God bless you, Clark. Mikey, Courtney. [01:08:27] Speaker A: Yes. [01:08:27] Speaker B: Maybe my second cousin. [01:08:29] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And remember, if you're feeling the vibe, rate and subscribe. Right. [01:08:34] Speaker B: And subscribe. 5. 5 stars. We also want to give a shout out to Christian McCann, who, you know, the man left Fritos for us. [01:08:44] Speaker A: He left those. [01:08:45] Speaker B: He. He left those. Yeah. Very sweet. Yeah. And he was like, call me. I'll be around. I know, Christian. I know. You know what, Christian? When we talk about being disappointed in a man, you're never it. That's like the. Wasn't there, like, something that was like. Yeah. Whenever I talk about hating men, these are the people that I'm not talking about. Like Pedro Pascal, Christian McCann kind of story. Yeah. And Christian McKinnon. [01:09:10] Speaker A: Christian McCann. Never. I would never hate you, Christian. No. Perfect. [01:09:14] Speaker B: Yeah. So thank you to Christian McCann for making our sure our sound stays in check. And as always, thank you to the illustrious Lincoln Lodge in Chicago, Illinois, for letting us do our thing. Until next time. [01:09:26] Speaker A: Bye. [01:09:27] Speaker B: Bye.
