[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
Welcome to Spellbound, a Romantasy podcast. I'm Deidre.
[00:00:16] Speaker B: And I'm Jillian.
[00:00:17] Speaker A: Welcome, Jillian. It's been a while.
[00:00:19] Speaker B: So long. Too long.
[00:00:21] Speaker A: Too long being two weeks.
[00:00:24] Speaker B: But I feel like we haven't recorded. Recorded in like three weeks.
[00:00:27] Speaker A: Yeah, no. Yeah. My sense of time is completely off.
[00:00:30] Speaker B: Completely off.
[00:00:31] Speaker A: I'm just coming back from a trip to Amsterdam. Those people are living over there.
[00:00:36] Speaker B: They are living.
[00:00:38] Speaker A: It's insane. But you talk to people and they're like, it's okay. And I'm like, compared to what your idea of what America could be? Because it's not that girl.
[00:00:44] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:00:45] Speaker A: Stay your ass over here.
[00:00:47] Speaker B: If anything of them ever been here.
[00:00:49] Speaker A: Yeah, a lot of people have. I met people that, well, you know, I had a bartender that was from America. He's having a great time over there. He has no plans on coming back and rightfully so. Good for him.
But other people. Yeah, I mean, obviously they grew up in different places across Europe, Northern Africa too. There's lots. A lot of. A lot of people that we kind of met.
And yeah, they had a great time in the States, but now they are like, I don't necessarily know that it's the most safe place or the safest place for me. So I'm like, yeah, you'd be right about that. So.
But great city, great weather. We saw a lot of really great things.
We packed a lot of fun things into our visit. And I have to say, too, yeah, I had a really great opportunity to catch up with a friend of mine from college, Nicole, and shared with her a bit more.
[00:01:38] Speaker B: Well, first of all, Nicole or Courtney?
[00:01:40] Speaker A: Well, Courtney went with me, but I met with a college friend named Nicole.
[00:01:43] Speaker B: She was from college. Okay, go. Okay.
[00:01:45] Speaker A: Yeah. So Nicole, Courtney and I went out and got drinks, and when we left, I noticed that she was wearing this tote bag. And it said something cute about books on it. And I asked something like, can you read or do you read?
[00:01:59] Speaker B: Can you read?
[00:02:02] Speaker A: And she was like, yeah, I read. I'm like, what kind of books? And she was like, you know, she was just kind of answering high level. And I was like, you happen to ever read a little Romanasy? You know, I'm sounding like a full fledged coke dealer on the side, you know, I'm like, would this interest you? And she tells me that she and another friend of mine from college just had like a little bit of a book club where they read the Fourth Wing. And I was like, well, sister, do I have the deal for you.
Doing a bit of a podcast with a friend. And so I sent her the link. She officially listened to it. So I have to say that, like, we're international now. Oh, formally and officially international.
We got. We've got a listener in the Netherlands.
[00:02:42] Speaker B: Love it. Oh, my God.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: All, you know, maybe three minutes of the podcast that she listened to, but that's enough, babe.
[00:02:48] Speaker B: I only need a minute. You only need a minute?
[00:02:51] Speaker A: I only need a minute of your time.
[00:02:52] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:02:53] Speaker A: But she. She listened to it. She, like, you know, wrote me back about some things that she heard us talking about. She particularly liked our musings on the pop. I mean, you know, I love it. We're workshopping it, and it seems to be doing well across the pond.
[00:03:05] Speaker B: Perfect.
[00:03:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
Yeah. So, yeah, coming back feeling refreshed, dipped back into the fresh hell that is the States. However, no greater time to be a native of Chicago. Chicago than right now for you.
[00:03:19] Speaker B: Seriously, it is. I mean, I heard about somebody, like, had gone to just visit Italy and, like, got a bunch of, like, free food because people would find out they're from. He was from Chicago.
[00:03:29] Speaker A: Oh, that's so funny. And they were like, all right, we're.
[00:03:31] Speaker B: Gonna buy you and.
[00:03:32] Speaker A: Yeah, I know, that's great. Chicago's, like, in the spotlight for good reasons right now, and we love to see it.
[00:03:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Although, like, the things that people are learning around the world about us. Not great. That we like Malort that, like, just not great.
[00:03:46] Speaker A: We're not sending our best out there. Malore deep dish pizza.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: Dave Matthews, man made May 8, 2004.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: That's on people's radar.
[00:03:54] Speaker B: That's on people's radar now.
[00:03:56] Speaker A: I remember when I discovered that and I like, called you in a panic and I was like, what the is this?
So it still haunts my night. It haunts my dreams.
[00:04:06] Speaker B: I read something recently that was like, the people that were on the riverboat, God bless them, were dumped on are, like, still in therapy about it.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: They're still in therapy. Some are still experiencing long, long lasting sickness.
[00:04:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
No. Really?
[00:04:20] Speaker A: Yes. Like prolonged. Like pro. There was prolonged illnesses as a result of having toxic human waste dumped on them.
[00:04:29] Speaker B: Not a long covet. Long dmb.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: Jillian, not. Now's not the time to get creative with this story.
We need people to use their imaginations and a Wikipedia research and just, you know, find out for themselves what happened. Yeah, I can't. No, that's not the best that Chicago has offered.
[00:04:49] Speaker B: No, no, I did love that, like, you know, the bulls and the 90s was like that, like the 90s early 90s was like the place to. Was like the time to live in here.
[00:04:58] Speaker A: Live here? Yeah.
[00:04:59] Speaker B: Like if you can go back to any time.
1992, Chicago, like go to an Oprah show, go to a Bulls game, you'd be living.
But so I loved the. When he went out to the Bulls music.
[00:05:12] Speaker A: Yeah, that was good. There's been a lot of funny memes that have come out of that.
[00:05:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:16] Speaker A: Yeah. And we're like finally entering into a Chicago summer. I come back here, the weather is beautiful.
[00:05:22] Speaker B: Love it.
[00:05:22] Speaker A: A little bit too hot today. We've turned it up just a little bit too much. But it's like 86 they.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, I was on the way over here and I don't know what this guy's, but he was like 90.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: That's insane.
[00:05:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:35] Speaker A: Tonight's night one of Beyonce's three part concert series in the city. We're going on Saturday with our great precious angel baby Clark.
[00:05:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:47] Speaker A: Can't wait. We've got a little group chat going. We're getting prepared.
[00:05:50] Speaker B: Two Most Wanted.
[00:05:51] Speaker A: Yeah. Changed it to three Most wanted for the three of us. Yes.
[00:05:55] Speaker B: There you go.
[00:05:55] Speaker A: There you go. There's that. Creative. There's a creative shift.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: That was really creative.
[00:05:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
But yeah, I'm excited to see what she has in store for us.
[00:06:04] Speaker B: God, I can't wait.
[00:06:06] Speaker A: What a time to be alive.
[00:06:07] Speaker B: Seriously. Yeah.
[00:06:09] Speaker A: In the time of Beyonce.
[00:06:11] Speaker B: Wait, do you think she will make a pope joke?
[00:06:14] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:06:14] Speaker B: Probably not.
[00:06:16] Speaker A: She's not necessarily one to be super vocal beyond just getting out there and singing some songs. You know what I mean?
[00:06:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:23] Speaker A: She tends to just keep it quick, short. Get those outfits out there.
[00:06:27] Speaker B: We love it.
[00:06:28] Speaker A: Get those moves out there and do the damn thing.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: Yeah. And leaving us all in dust and blue and roomy will be there as well.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Yes. We're going to see the whole. The whole family. It's going to be a family affair likely, but yeah, that's pretty much highlights in my neck of the woods.
[00:06:44] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't think a lot of stuff going on. I. My car is in the shop and it's like I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow, 1800 later.
[00:06:52] Speaker A: No.
Does your car have a name?
[00:06:56] Speaker B: No.
[00:06:57] Speaker A: She deserves a name.
[00:06:58] Speaker B: It does deserve a name.
[00:06:59] Speaker A: She. Honest to God, once she finally goes down, she. No, her name deserves to be raised as like in martyrdom, to be honest. Like, she needs to be among like Mother Teresa in the Bone Porter, basically.
Pretty much.
[00:07:16] Speaker B: We'll get into that.
[00:07:17] Speaker A: We'll get into that. Quarter yeah, like she has really held you down.
[00:07:22] Speaker B: She was really, you know, I think I told you, like last weekend. I was at, we were at a Mother's Day brunch in Evanston and my mom started like yelling. She's like, jillian, your car alarm's going off.
And I was like, whatever.
So I didn't go check on it. But later then I went outside and the trunk was popped.
And I think maybe somebody tried to like, like steal something. And I was like, and you're going.
[00:07:50] Speaker A: Please, by all means, take it, take.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: It off my hands.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: You have no idea what's in your trunk right now.
[00:07:57] Speaker B: None.
Absolutely no idea.
[00:08:01] Speaker A: I would, I would wager say everything that you need is on your person right now. If somebody broke into your car at this very minute and stole everything out of it, you'd see them as doing you a favor.
[00:08:09] Speaker B: I'm pretty sure there are five blankets in the, in the trunk of my car. I don't know why a girl can.
[00:08:16] Speaker A: Never be too prepared.
Can never be too sure. Can never be too prepared. So, you know, you're doing, you're doing good. That's more of an emergency preparedness kit than I have.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: Well, I don't know about that. I mean, I have like blankets and mental health books.
[00:08:32] Speaker A: That's all you need. I mean, honestly, you could do a lot with that.
You can find a way.
[00:08:38] Speaker B: We have to prepare for that. By the way. The end of the world.
[00:08:42] Speaker A: I know. I don't even have match matches in my house. I don't even have any double A batteries. I don't have a flashlight.
I have nothing.
[00:08:51] Speaker B: We would be done.
[00:08:52] Speaker A: We'd be. Birdie would survive. She's got enough snacks and food and treats and toys.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: You know what? Luna and Birdie, we just rule the world.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: As they should.
[00:09:02] Speaker B: Luna would for sure find my parents house. So if something happened to us, she'd be like, birdie, let's go.
[00:09:08] Speaker A: My parents would find some way to survive just so they could save Birdie, not me.
Which, yeah, getting back from Amsterdam, we spent a lot of time at my parents house down in North Carolina. And that was great. A lot of quality time for Birdie and her grandparents.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: Oh, I bet. Yeah.
[00:09:24] Speaker A: And now she's back and she's hating life because we're back in an apartment. She doesn't have all the space, the room, all that stuff. But yeah, you know, what are you gonna do? We're living our great life in the city.
All right, so what do we have prepared this week? What are, what's.
[00:09:39] Speaker B: Well we don't have prepared model. We don't have.
[00:09:41] Speaker A: You're right about that.
[00:09:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:42] Speaker A: I have nothing prepared. But in terms of, you know, what we're going to be talking about today.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: So we read Crescent City, and here our agenda is that. So Deidre will be giving us a little hear ye, hear ye, where she will give updates on the news of the moment.
We'll then get to know. We'll get to, like, why you're really here, which is just the tip.
And then we'll go to Literally Unhinged and talk about all our favorite parts of the book.
Um, we'll chat about our favorite theories as part of our conspiracy corner. And we will then wrap up with a cla. Crowd pleaser. Mash. Game of Mash.
[00:10:21] Speaker A: Love it. Everybody loves the good rousing game of mash.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: Loves it.
[00:10:25] Speaker A: I was talking to Courtney when we were in Amsterdam. She was like, ugh. When y' all played mash, I was like, ugh. Blast from the past. I love it.
So, you know, in terms of. We call this a Romantasy podcast, but we have a lot of, you know, millennial melee going on.
[00:10:38] Speaker B: Yes. I love that word, melee.
[00:10:40] Speaker A: Pop culture and millennial melee. We can add that to the.
[00:10:42] Speaker B: Totally.
[00:10:43] Speaker A: It's not too late.
[00:10:44] Speaker B: Yeah, we could do it.
[00:10:45] Speaker A: We could do anything we want.
Wonderful. Well, let's get to the hear ye, hear ye moments.
[00:10:49] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:10:49] Speaker A: Very brief this week.
Happy 10 year anniversary of A Court of Thorns and Roses to all who celebrate May 5th mark 10 years since the publishing of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Where were you?
Maybe 2015.
And you don't have to be specific. If it's a dark place, I can tell you, for me, it's a dark place. That's a dark time.
[00:11:12] Speaker B: It was a dark, dark place. May 5, 2015. I don't know. I don't even want to go back there.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: I don't either. I was probably miserable at somebody's day party.
[00:11:22] Speaker B: I know. Yeah.
[00:11:23] Speaker A: Five drinks deep, doing God knows what. Miserable.
Not making tons of money.
[00:11:31] Speaker B: Oof. No, not at all.
[00:11:32] Speaker A: And probably pining over a boy who didn't even know my middle name.
I won't take you back there. Yeah, that's my trauma.
[00:11:40] Speaker B: It was. It was very bad.
[00:11:42] Speaker A: But yes, I saw that come across my timeline this week and I was like, that is a really great thing to celebrate.
[00:11:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Celebration.
[00:11:52] Speaker A: Also, I thought that this was really interesting. It has been across multiple publications.
[00:11:58] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:11:59] Speaker A: Did you hear about the A Million Lives Festival?
[00:12:03] Speaker B: No.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: It is the Romantasy festival that is being Slammed by authors and attendees as the fyre fest of books.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: Yes, I've heard about this. Okay, tell me more.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Okay, so basically one of the authors that were there quoted it as saying it felt like the fire fest of book festivals, saying, we were told there's been over 600 tickets sold and she did not see those people. There were more authors at their booths than there were attendees. And I'm not exaggerating. It was that bad. So basically, if anybody wants to look this up, I believe that there was a.
A romantasy book festival that was hosted in Baltimore.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Was it Baltimore?
[00:12:41] Speaker A: Okay.
1.
A woman who also writes her own books was sort of the coordinator. She planned this entire festival. All of these authors, many of them, you know, self published, independent, small, really trying to get their name and their, you know, materials out there, signed on to do it under the guise that, you know, romanticy is having a really big moment right now. They can touch a broader fan base and really get their works out there. It's really exciting.
But as they started to get to the festival, many attendees, authors were noticed that things were amiss.
The hotel arrangements were shoddy at best. I'm talking about, like, low. Checking into what they thought was the hotel, that they had a block, like a nice hotel, only to find that there was no reservations made and having to be moved to a very shoddy, low budget hotel. Tell. No, no, I know how you feel about that.
[00:13:38] Speaker B: Oh, my.
[00:13:39] Speaker A: And then also there were multiple authors that showed up, set up their tables, put their books out. There were more authors than attendees there.
[00:13:47] Speaker B: Oh, God.
[00:13:48] Speaker A: And this attendee, this coordinator, the woman who threw the event, was basically telling them that there's going to be multiple, multiple, you know, people, readers in attendance. And that was just absolutely not the case. Told them that she had already sold like 600 tickets right before the event happened, but there were absolutely not 600 people.
And then my understanding is also that there was a ball, like sort of a romantic ball for attendees to go to. So there were some attendees there that went back to wherever they were staying. They got dressed up as you would for one of these, like, you know, fairy balls or whatever, any of like the magical balls in any of these books, only to come and find that there was like a tray of macaroons on a table and somebody like, I think a janitor had to run out and like grab like a portable speaker to come in and like funnel in his itunes catalog. No, for these attendees. So people are pissed. They called this woman out. She did like a very shoddy apology on to her, to people following the event on Instagram or TikTok, one of the two.
But yeah, it's all over the place. Her name is getting dragged through the mud. I think at one point there was a panel in which her. The man moderating it, got up and left in the middle of the panel, never came back. Turned out it was the organizer's husband that was serving moderator.
[00:15:08] Speaker B: Total scam.
[00:15:09] Speaker A: Total scam. And so I am very. I'm summarizing all of the articles that I've read about it over the last week. You can just very much Google Romanesee, Fyre Fest F Y R E, to be specific. And all types of articles and, you know, experiences from people who were there.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: Very upset. People are very upset. Wow.
[00:15:32] Speaker A: Very upset. Can you imagine?
[00:15:34] Speaker B: Oh, God, you'd be, like, really excited.
[00:15:37] Speaker A: And then you can't mess with people's, like, really sincere love and fandom of certain things. You know what I mean? Like, imagine if you advertised like a comic con of some sort. You know, those people come to kill it. You know what I mean? They plan for it. They're so serious in their love of the source material and, like, the characters and all these things. And I don't think that this is. I don't know. It was just like she was really just trying to capitalize on people's love of the event, but had. Or love of this genre, love of this moment.
[00:16:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:14] Speaker A: But really having no intentions of doing anything than scamming people's money.
And I hate it. Especially for the independent authors that were there who were, like, spending their own money.
[00:16:23] Speaker B: Right.
[00:16:24] Speaker A: To be there and showcase their works and hopefully make enough sales to break even or, you know, just get the exposure.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: So it's just really sad there. Yeah.
[00:16:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:35] Speaker B: So what is wrong with people?
[00:16:37] Speaker A: Hear you, hear you people are trash.
Casey didn't know, but that's it. That's my hear ye. Hear ye for this week.
[00:16:47] Speaker B: Okay, what is next? Sorry. I'm reading to the lyrics to a song I'll bring up later. You're gonna lose your mind.
Okay, so I think we're doing just the tip.
[00:16:59] Speaker A: Yeah, just the tip. Always just the tip.
[00:17:01] Speaker B: Okay, so we are reading Crescent City, the house of earth and blood. Blood and earth.
[00:17:08] Speaker A: Okay, Crescent City, we've got everything you need.
[00:17:12] Speaker B: That's. I mean, that's perfect. I don't. I don't have any notes for that.
[00:17:15] Speaker A: I've been. I've been toying with some geniuses.
[00:17:17] Speaker B: I bet you have.
[00:17:18] Speaker A: I've been talking to the you know, the visitors bureau, the chamber of commerce for Crescent City. Good. And, you know, I'm gonna let you get to just the tip, but I. The many times that I call this book Circuit City, the now defunct electronic store that most millennial 90s kids will. Yeah, absolutely. The outside of the building looked like a. An electrical plug.
[00:17:42] Speaker B: Yes, it did. Okay. I. I mean, Best Buy has taken over for me, and they're upsetting.
[00:17:48] Speaker A: They're a Midwest. They're based in the Midwest.
[00:17:51] Speaker B: Circuit City.
[00:17:52] Speaker A: No, Best Buy.
[00:17:53] Speaker B: Best Buy. Okay. Best Buy and. And Blockbuster.
[00:17:57] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:17:57] Speaker B: Had a good. Like, you know, the blue and yellow thing.
[00:18:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
Respond to that.
[00:18:02] Speaker B: Yeah. But Circuit City and Hollywood Video.
[00:18:05] Speaker A: So sad. I. I was a Hollywood. We were a Hollywood video family for a while, only because that was the video store that was closest to us. But there for a long time, we went to Blockbuster, so it was just, like, a matter of convenience. We played with both.
[00:18:18] Speaker B: Do you remember, like, the pure joy of being told, like, yeah, let's go get a Blockbuster. Let's go to Blockbuster.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: And then, like, your parents are like, you can get one candy. And you're like, like, what the.
But then you've got. When you got three siblings, you go in, and there's no agreeing on any movie. Usually they're out of them anyway. And so then you pick up some weird. Like, I remember Andrew had us watching, like, Chasing Amy, you know, that, like, Ben Affleck movie.
Very weird movie.
[00:18:50] Speaker A: Well, that tracks.
You're like, I'm. I'm 11 years old. I don't watch this.
[00:19:00] Speaker B: No.
[00:19:01] Speaker A: But.
[00:19:01] Speaker B: Yeah. So loved it.
[00:19:03] Speaker A: Yeah. What a great experience. My mom would be so serious about, like, the new releases that when we would go in there, if there were none, my mom would be like, check in the back. Check in the back. Have any been returned? And she'd wait and while they look through the bin to see if any had been returned, because she's like, there has to be some here.
[00:19:20] Speaker B: How many movies? Okay, so, like, let's say that whatever. Like Wicked. So there was, like, still, like, Blockbuster and Wicked came out. How many VHS tapes do you think each store got?
[00:19:32] Speaker A: I have no idea, but I feel like you would go in and there'd be a wall of them. There'd be like a. There'd be like a big shelf, a.
[00:19:38] Speaker B: Whole wall of the same movie for.
[00:19:40] Speaker A: The new releases, like the big Blockbuster films. You know what I mean? And I feel like there'd be at least two to three cassettes behind each.
[00:19:47] Speaker B: Like, okay, well, yeah, that's not enough.
[00:19:49] Speaker A: Though not enough. Who knows how we were living back then. Honestly, it's been so long since, like, we've been in, like, a Scarcity Soc.
[00:19:57] Speaker B: That I know we're so used to.
[00:19:59] Speaker A: Streaming things, but I don't know about you, but my parents definitely have a chokehold on all of the DVDs that we've ever owned as a family. There's. And VHS tapes. Like, there's a huge shelf in our family office. I mean, 1997's Anaconda featuring Jennifer Lopez and Eric Stoltz, for just a brief moment, is sitting there staring me in the face every time I go home. And I'm like, who? When's the last time anybody's watched. We don't even have anything in this.
[00:20:25] Speaker B: No, you can't even watch it.
[00:20:26] Speaker A: Next to that is like, Top Gun.
Next to that is, like Tombstone.
[00:20:31] Speaker B: What I'm saying Casino Man. Yeah.
[00:20:34] Speaker A: Something's going on. I'm like, who's watching these films? And then we've got, obviously, the things like the videos, tapes that I think that I recorded, you know, that you can just, like, record shows. Nobody knows what's on those.
[00:20:45] Speaker B: No.
[00:20:46] Speaker A: To be honest. And how are we ever going to find it?
[00:20:48] Speaker B: No, you can't ever look.
[00:20:51] Speaker A: And then, of course, there's like, you know, Cindy Crawford's, like, workout tapes that absolutely belong to my mom. And I'm like, yeah, nobody ever watched this.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: Nobody. No.
[00:21:01] Speaker A: I, as a child, though, did go through a phase where I was sweating to the oldies with Richard Simmons. So I had, like, shampoo bottles. I was in there as weights. I was killing it. I was getting my work.
[00:21:13] Speaker B: Seriously. Or like, you were like, pretend.
[00:21:15] Speaker A: I was working out. Me and Richard were sweating to the oldies. I was like, we're doing it.
[00:21:20] Speaker B: It's amazing.
[00:21:22] Speaker A: So there's a lot. There's a lot of really good memories in those tapes.
[00:21:25] Speaker B: But what's the clueless line when she go about the buns of steel?
[00:21:30] Speaker A: She's like, and my buns, they don't feel nothing. Like steel.
Thank you, Ty.
Really appreciate that. Yeah, there were, like, all those of, like, body Part of steel tapes when we were.
[00:21:42] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:21:43] Speaker A: Kids.
[00:21:43] Speaker B: Yes. Abs of steel. Buns of steel.
[00:21:45] Speaker A: I could still see, like, the.
[00:21:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:47] Speaker A: The covers.
[00:21:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:48] Speaker A: They were in different colors and stuff.
[00:21:49] Speaker B: I think so. Yeah.
[00:21:52] Speaker A: What a time.
[00:21:52] Speaker B: Yeah. What a time. Really? God, that was such a. A simpler time, though.
[00:21:56] Speaker A: It was, you know. Yeah.
[00:21:58] Speaker B: I was thinking about this the other day because I was like, you know how everybody talk? We talk about meditation and mindfulness all the Time. And it's like, you got to do it. You got to do it. You got to download. Download the app. And then I was like, well, what is the difference between that and literally just living in 1972 and, like, going and picking something at the store and waiting in line. That's a meditation.
[00:22:21] Speaker A: Absolutely.
Yeah.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: You're not doing anything.
[00:22:24] Speaker A: You're not doing anything. You're standing. You literally just have to stand there with your own thoughts.
[00:22:27] Speaker B: Yep, Yep.
[00:22:28] Speaker A: And people don't want to do that at all.
[00:22:30] Speaker B: Cannot do it. They're like, I don't. I don't know. No, no, no. That's too scary.
[00:22:35] Speaker A: Yeah. And you're like, what is the monster that lives inside Jesus? Not alone. I've heard people say that, like, even when the concept of, like, runners kind of getting into their own sort of, like, meditative state and, like, a runner's high and, like, just being out there in your own thoughts, like, you know, whatever. And I' People be like, with your own thoughts. God, now. And I'm like, what is going on? It's crazy.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: It's crazy. I'm like, let's start small. Like, 30 seconds, you know, surely you can do that.
[00:23:06] Speaker A: Some people can't do it. It's crazy.
Well, this is going off the beaten path for sure. I'm gonna steer us back to.
[00:23:13] Speaker B: Okay, Steer us.
[00:23:15] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:23:16] Speaker B: So this week, so Crescent City. So we start with our main girl, Bryce. Bryce Quinlan. She's half human, half Fae, and she has a best friend, Danica. Y is a wolf shifter. So, like, shifts in between human form and wolf form. Which, by the way, that, like, really freaked me out in the beginning.
[00:23:35] Speaker A: It's like animorphs.
[00:23:36] Speaker B: Can you imagine? She's just, like, walking down the street talking to this giant wolf.
[00:23:41] Speaker A: There were also. There was also a scene where, like, there were two being. There's multiple beings in this book, and I'm sure you'll get to it, but they were inner. They were having, like, interspecies sex.
[00:23:51] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:23:52] Speaker A: Wait, wait, wait.
[00:23:52] Speaker B: Tell me. Remind me which one?
[00:23:54] Speaker A: I have. No, I can't remember. When it was in Fangs and Bangs.
No, it wasn't in Fangs and Bangs. When was it there? Was this another scene? There had to be. I'm not gonna waste a lot of time on this. We can keep moving.
[00:24:07] Speaker B: But satter or something.
[00:24:09] Speaker A: It was like. It was like a wolf and something else.
[00:24:11] Speaker B: I think that was in the Things and Bangs.
[00:24:13] Speaker A: It. No, it was, wasn't it? When wasn't it? When Hunt went back to the Barracks. And he could hear, like, having sex.
[00:24:21] Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
[00:24:23] Speaker A: But I thought there was, like, he could see someone having sex. I don't know.
[00:24:26] Speaker B: No, I think it was. He heard them. I don't remember what. What beans they were.
[00:24:29] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:24:33] Speaker B: So anyway, so Bryce, best friends with Danica. Danica works for the cops. Cops in Chicago.
No, she works for the wolf pack.
[00:24:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:45] Speaker B: And one night, Bryce goes out, she gets really drunk, does a bunch of drugs, comes home, finds this awful, horrific scene. So Danica and her devil pack are chopped up into pieces, absolutely slaughtered.
[00:25:01] Speaker A: And it's important to note that.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: Chunks everywhere.
Body chunks everywhere.
[00:25:07] Speaker A: It's important to note that Bryce is friends with not only Danica, but pretty much everybody in the apartment.
[00:25:13] Speaker B: All of them?
[00:25:13] Speaker A: Yeah, they'd gone to college together.
[00:25:15] Speaker B: Yes, all gone to college together. There was one of the pack of the devils, like, she. And his name is Connor. So Connor and Bryce were, like, kind of on the verge of having a thing, but then they get killed, like, horrifically. So after that, she runs after. So she sees that there was a demon that attacked them. Right. She runs after it. I was kind of reminded of the Stranger Things demon. I don't know if you remember.
[00:25:41] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, totally.
[00:25:43] Speaker B: Lots of saliva and like. Like, lots of teeth.
[00:25:46] Speaker A: You know what I pictured it as?
[00:25:47] Speaker B: What?
[00:25:48] Speaker A: The ghosts in the Pac man game.
[00:25:51] Speaker B: I don't know if I remember that.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: You know when that. When it goes black and it's like.
[00:25:55] Speaker B: Oh, my God, that's funny.
[00:25:57] Speaker A: Maybe to make it less scary in my mind. I don't know.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: It must have been, like, a protective thing for yourself.
[00:26:01] Speaker A: It was like, deidre, don't get too creative.
[00:26:05] Speaker B: Like, I get there are body chunks everywhere, but it's really just Pac man there.
[00:26:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:12] Speaker B: So, anyway, so, okay, so then we're introduced to the. Our main male. I guess you could call him the main male character.
[00:26:18] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely. Yeah.
[00:26:19] Speaker B: Yeah. So he's an angel. We haven't done angels.
[00:26:22] Speaker A: We have not done angels.
[00:26:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Angels are a new thing for us.
What do you think?
[00:26:26] Speaker A: I'm fine with it.
[00:26:28] Speaker B: I'm okay with it.
[00:26:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:29] Speaker B: I'm like, the. The wings are a little bit, like.
[00:26:33] Speaker A: I don't know, all the fan art coming out of this, too. It's like, a little bit. What I appreciate in some of the winged characters that we've seen previously is that they can tuck them when they're not in use. Doesn't seem like.
[00:26:44] Speaker B: Like, don't like that.
[00:26:45] Speaker A: Get rid. Like, they. They go away. Like, they're. They appear without Having any wings. It doesn't appear that the angels can ever do that. And that would just seem like it would bother the. Out of me all the time.
[00:26:56] Speaker B: And he kept being like, yeah, and I landed, and then people, like, you know, people started scattering.
So it just seems like he was not. He could not be, like, standing stealthy in any way.
[00:27:07] Speaker A: Oh. But then sometimes he would sneak up behind her, and she'd be like, I didn't know. Whatever. Okay.
[00:27:12] Speaker B: Point is, I didn't like him.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Not a boring man.
[00:27:15] Speaker B: Did not like him. Yeah.
[00:27:16] Speaker A: So he not dynamic at all? No, he was fine enough. He wasn't a mean guy. He wasn't bad. He wasn't ugly. He wasn't anything. He was just there.
[00:27:24] Speaker B: You know who he was?
[00:27:25] Speaker A: Who?
[00:27:26] Speaker B: Matt Damon.
[00:27:27] Speaker A: There.
[00:27:28] Speaker B: You know what I mean?
[00:27:30] Speaker A: Just there. Year after year, literally. Old Faithful.
[00:27:34] Speaker B: Just there.
[00:27:39] Speaker A: Oh, faithful. Oh, Faithful. You don't need anything from him. He just is who he is, and you're like, fine.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: You know, he's gonna come out with. With one of those movies. What were. What were all those movies?
[00:27:49] Speaker A: Oceans.
[00:27:51] Speaker B: Loved Oceans.
[00:27:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: No, which, by the way, just came out on Netflix.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: Yes, it did. I. I saved it to watch.
[00:27:57] Speaker B: Did you see Brad Pit. Pit. Eating the whole time.
[00:28:00] Speaker A: I'll be sure to keep a lookout next time.
[00:28:03] Speaker B: But anyway, there's Matt Damon there, and we really don't care about him.
Wait, what's the one, though, that, like, CIA won?
[00:28:10] Speaker A: Isaiah.
[00:28:12] Speaker B: No.
Isaiah. No, no, no, no, no. It's a. It's a movie that.
[00:28:16] Speaker A: Oh, Christian.
[00:28:17] Speaker B: Was he in Matt Damon?
[00:28:19] Speaker A: For what? Oh, Jason Bourne.
[00:28:21] Speaker B: Jason Bourne.
[00:28:21] Speaker A: Oh, yes.
[00:28:22] Speaker B: Jason Bourne. Jason Bourne. You know, Jason Bourne's gonna come out, and you're like, it's fine.
[00:28:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:26] Speaker B: And not that I've ever seen one, but that's who Hunt is, basically.
[00:28:30] Speaker A: He's just there. He's just a man doing his job, and he's, like, cursed.
[00:28:35] Speaker B: He is cursed. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:28:37] Speaker A: He has a. He's been cursed for having a good heart, being on the right side of history. He's been damned for doing so.
[00:28:42] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. But, like, the way he keeps talking about this, like, the Shahar person, it's a little bit, like, sycophantic, you know?
[00:28:49] Speaker A: Let it go.
[00:28:50] Speaker B: Yeah, let it go. Anyway, so we. We find out that Hunt is enslaved by Micah, the archangel Micah, which I had to. I don't know about you, but I had to look up what archangel means because I didn't know. Did you know?
[00:29:03] Speaker A: Do you wanna. Do you wanna educate us on. On Archangel?
[00:29:09] Speaker B: It's Basically just a super angle Angel. So that's what it is. But anyway, he is. He's the mayor and he's got like very like.
It's like Batman. Not he's not Batman, but like a bad mayor. Like Harvey Dent. Was Harvey Dent bad?
[00:29:24] Speaker A: Harvey Dent was a police officer. He was good.
[00:29:27] Speaker B: No, I thought he was the right.
[00:29:28] Speaker A: No, Harvey Dent. What, he became Two Face.
[00:29:32] Speaker B: Yeah, he was the. He was the mayor or. Or the attorney general.
[00:29:35] Speaker A: Yeah, he was a lawyer. He was a district attorney. We got there. Give us a second.
[00:29:39] Speaker B: Give us a second.
[00:29:42] Speaker A: But yes. And then he. At first he seemed fine. He seemed like a good guy. But then he became like two faced.
[00:29:47] Speaker B: Yeah, but for a reason, though. Wasn't that for like a. Now we're off on Batman. What? Something happened.
Aaron Eckhart played him.
[00:29:55] Speaker A: Yeah, he did.
[00:29:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
Something traumatic. He used to be good.
[00:29:59] Speaker A: He did. And then the Joker, he got caught up in an explosion with the Joker.
[00:30:04] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:30:05] Speaker A: But there's so many stories, there's so many variations of the Joker's like origin or two faces origin story.
Like if you ever watch the 1990s Batman cartoon.
Excellent. Really? That was a staple for me after school. It used to be on Fox. Kids, the first of all, the animation is beautiful. Like, people talk about it to this day, how, like, beautiful it was. Like the storytelling was good. Christian, did you ever watch it in the 90s? That was a big one. Yeah. You should go home and watch it.
[00:30:32] Speaker B: Gotta watch it. Yeah, watch it.
[00:30:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Like really great storytelling. As a child, I remember being like, this right here is art.
I'm like, I am set the next 30 minutes. I'm in here. What's going on?
[00:30:44] Speaker B: Wait, so. Okay, so Harvey Dent was bad or good?
[00:30:47] Speaker A: He was good. He was good, then turned bad.
[00:30:49] Speaker B: Could then turn bad.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay.
[00:30:51] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:52] Speaker A: Many people might, you know, say, we're not right in that. But that's my truth.
[00:30:56] Speaker B: Classic story, you know?
[00:30:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:30:59] Speaker B: Okay, what else? All right. Okay. So I. In the beginning, so Hunt. Like, he's very boring Matt Damon. But he's frequently, like, referring to.
What's her name?
[00:31:12] Speaker A: Bryce.
[00:31:12] Speaker B: Bryce is dumb.
[00:31:14] Speaker A: You know, he calls her dumb party girl.
Whatever. And I'm just.
I was just a little bit like, has she done enough to deserve all this?
[00:31:22] Speaker B: Not at all. He didn't know her at all. He hadn't even met her yet. And he started saying that she's a dumb party girl.
[00:31:29] Speaker A: It was weird.
[00:31:30] Speaker B: It was very weird.
[00:31:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:32] Speaker B: But anyway, so then there's like, it jumps to two years later, Danika. No Sorry. Bryce is working at this, like, antique shop or something and still just kind of heartbroken and devastated.
And then Hunt comes and finds. Finds her, and there's another murder in the A la. You know, Danica murder.
And so then they.
Hunt and Bryce basically go off on this whole investigation 300, 400 pages later. Right. Don't you think?
[00:32:05] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:32:08] Speaker B: So let's see.
There's something about a horn.
There's something about a horn and Luna's horn. So they're looking for the horn. It's just a bunch of, like, magic stuff. And then slow burn romance starts with Hunt and Bryce.
Let's see, what else happens next?
[00:32:34] Speaker A: A lot.
[00:32:35] Speaker B: I mean, I don't. There's so much, though, you know, that it's like, should we just go to the end?
[00:32:43] Speaker A: I asked myself that every day.
Yeah, go ahead.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: So there's a poor. There's a demon.
[00:32:52] Speaker A: There's a lot that goes on in the middle.
[00:32:53] Speaker B: There's a lot that goes on. There's a demon. They find out that Danika. So at first they're like, danica, was she actually selling drugs? And then was it, like, Danica who killed everybody?
[00:33:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:33:06] Speaker B: Turns out, guess what? It was Micah. It was Matt Damon was the killer.
So, no, sorry, that would be Hunt. Micah. Harvey Dent was the killer. And in the end, it ended up being that Danica was trying to save Bryce. Right. And then tattooed. This is gonna be too much.
[00:33:26] Speaker A: Yeah, there's a lot that goes on in this. So I think at the heart of it, they are sent out to find a Hunt and a Bryce. The two main characters in this book are sent out to find the Luna's horn. It is a relic from Time Pass. And whoever holds this horn has the power in this magical realm.
[00:33:47] Speaker B: Okay, Right.
[00:33:48] Speaker A: Yeah. What they end up stumbling upon in their investigation is that there is apparently a very illicit drug that has hit the market that can heal the horn. So they're thinking whoever has the horn or who also is looking for the horn is also, like, maybe involved in this drug. Because what is in the drug can cure the horn.
[00:34:11] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:34:12] Speaker A: Cause the horn is broken.
[00:34:13] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:34:14] Speaker A: Right. And so, yes, at the end, you discover that there's, like, a lot of, like, corruption from, like, the archangel Micah in terms of how he has manipulated the situation across many different people.
And Danika, yes, in the story of friendship with Hunt, was ultimately trying to protect Bryce. And all the things that she did with stealing the horn, breaking it up and putting it in a tattoo on Bryce's body, mainly did that because she knew that Bryce was actually a lot more powerful than anybody else knew that Bryce was. Bryce is actually starborn. Not a lot of people knew that. And she knew how powerful she would be.
[00:34:53] Speaker B: Right.
[00:34:53] Speaker A: But also.
Yeah, they were just discovering how Micah did a lot of different things to ultimately consolidate and get power for himself through the use of these drugs, trying to throw the scent off him to multiple different people.
Like you said, there's no way that we can summarize all of the intricate details about what goes on in this book through your summary. Because it's too much.
[00:35:21] Speaker B: It's too much.
[00:35:21] Speaker A: Lots of other people do that. Love them. They're scholars of the art. We're here just to talk about the vibes and our feelings about the book.
[00:35:27] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:35:28] Speaker A: And it was wonderful.
[00:35:29] Speaker B: It was wonderful. I mean, she. Sarah J. Maas. I mean, every time I read a book of hers, I'm like, well, he did it again.
[00:35:37] Speaker A: You know, she can't miss.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: She cannot miss.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: Yes. I love this book. I started this book. When did I. I think I started after we finished the Court of Rose and Thorns series, which, of course, we haven't talked about that yet. It's like our crowning glory in our love of Romanasy. We'll get to that soon.
But this is book one of a currently three book series. I. That there's supposed to be a fourth, but we don't know what date that's supposed to drop.
[00:36:04] Speaker B: The third came out, like, last year, and I think next is an acotar book.
[00:36:10] Speaker A: Okay. So. And we still don't know the drop date for that one.
[00:36:14] Speaker B: No, but I think there is gonna be a crossover.
[00:36:17] Speaker A: Okay, Love a crossover episode.
But ultimately, yes, I started this book months ago, and then I just had to put it down because I was like, sarah, girl, I cannot. I can't learn a new world and a new magic system. But that is to say that she.
Masterful with the pen.
[00:36:34] Speaker B: I know.
[00:36:35] Speaker A: What a storyteller.
[00:36:36] Speaker B: How did she have it in her head?
[00:36:38] Speaker A: I have no idea. But I. I remember texting you through this, and I was like, there is. She cannot possibly expect me to remember all of the things that she's dumping on me in the first few chapters in terms of, like, how the world is organized, all of the magical, you know, creatures, their hierarchy, like, the history between them, all of these things. And what I noticed as I was reading throughout the book was that she would weave all of that in. In really great context text as she was telling the story. So you very much understood how they were. They Interacted with each other, the history between each other. Like, by the end of it, I was very clear on how all of it connected when it was a little intimidating in the beginning.
[00:37:20] Speaker B: I don't know what class she's taken, but I'd like to take that class.
[00:37:24] Speaker A: She's wonderful. She's great.
[00:37:26] Speaker B: Incredible.
[00:37:26] Speaker A: She's incredible.
Yes. This was a really great book. We talked a lot, too, about it being. I told you today, I cried no less than four times when I read this book.
Such a wonderful story of friendship.
[00:37:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:45] Speaker A: And it was just devastating, you know? Okay, I want to talk about something.
[00:37:49] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:37:51] Speaker A: Do you know what? Okay, so the. The drug. The illicit drug that dropped since.
And the way it affects people. Like the way it affected Danica to the point where she killed the pack, then turned on herself.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:01] Speaker A: Do you know what that reminds me of? Do you remember all those years ago when people were taking bath salts?
Oh, God, yes. And they were basically just, like, attacking people. And they're like, eating their face.
[00:38:12] Speaker B: The window. Yes.
[00:38:13] Speaker A: They were, like, eating people's faces.
[00:38:15] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:38:17] Speaker A: I should. This. This happened in Florida. But, you know, it's still. It seemed like a. It seemed like a public health crisis. That was at the time.
[00:38:24] Speaker B: That was for sure.
[00:38:25] Speaker A: That's what this reminded me of. It was g. Bath salts.
[00:38:27] Speaker B: Wait, was it like 2005? Like, I feel like I was like.
[00:38:30] Speaker A: It was like 2014, 2015. Oh, you want to know where I Was May of 2015? Worried about bath salts.
[00:38:36] Speaker B: Worried about bath salts. Absolutely. I know. It was like, everybody. People are eating each other's faces.
[00:38:41] Speaker A: What are we getting news alerts?
[00:38:44] Speaker B: That's all we had to worry about.
[00:38:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:46] Speaker B: Do you remember that?
[00:38:47] Speaker A: What a better time. It was a. Far less stressed than that, but that's what I couldn't stop thinking about that in this book.
[00:38:53] Speaker B: Very interesting. Yeah. I kept thinking about Stranger Things, you know, the last season.
[00:38:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:59] Speaker B: Wasn't like, she. Or, wait, what was the time she was, like, being experimented on and then she was like. She would get really, like, kind of crazy and then kill people. She could kill people.
[00:39:10] Speaker A: Are you talking about the book Still Stranger Things? No, the show let's experiment and then get really crazy.
[00:39:17] Speaker B: No. So she. They have, like, child. Like, children as, like, lab rats, and then somehow they make them, like, kill everybody. Like there was a whole. Now.
[00:39:27] Speaker A: Anyway, we could take it offline.
We'll take it offline. We'll figure it out. We'll come back for a corrections corral. Let's do it a later time. Right.
Let's see. Okay, here's something that we need to talk about in this book.
The absolute chaotic fashion choices of Bryce Quinlan, you know?
[00:39:53] Speaker B: Okay, so like, and then there was a part where I was reading. So she's. Yeah, she's like, constantly wearing, like, the tightest dresses you could. Anyone could ever put on.
[00:40:03] Speaker A: Stiletto heels, like 4 inches. Giving me going out to a nightclub in 2008, putting on my best Charlotte Russell wet seal.
[00:40:15] Speaker B: What's the other. What's the one I went to? That was terrible. Akira.
[00:40:20] Speaker A: Akira, to this day is still kicking. Pumping them out, baby.
[00:40:25] Speaker B: I.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: Is that a regional store?
[00:40:28] Speaker B: I don't.
[00:40:28] Speaker A: We never had them.
[00:40:29] Speaker B: Oh, you didn't. Oh, my God. Akira was a huge thing.
[00:40:33] Speaker A: Yeah. No, I only saw it when I moved here, Chicago. I was walking down North Ave. And I was like, what in the fresh hell is this?
[00:40:39] Speaker B: Are you serious?
[00:40:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:40] Speaker B: Oh, my God. I was the only one in my family to wear no one else.
[00:40:45] Speaker A: And to me, that makes complete sense. I imagine that your mother was like, absolutely.
[00:40:50] Speaker B: No, they didn't. No, they didn't even know what I was wearing until I threw it out.
[00:40:54] Speaker A: What is this?
It was very much like bondage dress, bandage.
[00:41:00] Speaker B: Wasn't that a bandage dress?
[00:41:02] Speaker A: Bandage, Wonderful. Yeah, wonderful bandage dress, if you're into bondage. Yeah, basically Bandage, dress, hidden platform heels.
A little like a half up, half down, pompadour kind of situation. You remember when girls used to use to bump it, right?
[00:41:18] Speaker B: Uh huh. Bump it.
[00:41:20] Speaker A: A face full of Mac makeup.
[00:41:22] Speaker B: Mac. Yep.
[00:41:22] Speaker A: And in the background, somewhere in the distance, Fergie is playing from the speakers.
[00:41:29] Speaker B: Jesus Christ.
It's bad.
[00:41:34] Speaker A: It's so traumatic.
[00:41:35] Speaker B: It's gonna be a good, good night.
[00:41:42] Speaker A: You're stumbling home. It's 20 degrees outside. You didn't bring a coat. You gotta let people see this. Look.
[00:41:47] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:41:48] Speaker A: That's basically the energy.
I'm like, sister, are we serving looks or are we solving crimes? What's going on?
[00:41:56] Speaker B: Or you lost your phone, or your cab driver stole your phone and you're walking home on Sunday morning on Lakeshore Drive.
[00:42:04] Speaker A: Okay, this is getting. This is getting with your heels.
[00:42:07] Speaker B: And there was like. It was bike the drive and there are these, like, bikes, like, wishing past you. And that was. That was me in 2015.
[00:42:15] Speaker A: Honestly.
2015. Okay.
Have you spoken to a medical health professional how this may have impacted you? Because it's impacting me by proxy.
[00:42:26] Speaker B: It really is.
[00:42:29] Speaker A: I'm just so glad for growth. 10 years will do wonders.
[00:42:32] Speaker B: God, do you think I. I wonder if I have any I must have Akira dresses left.
[00:42:36] Speaker A: You need to bring them in just for exploration, just as a, as a social artifact.
[00:42:42] Speaker B: We should do something like, you know that like the Romantasy Ball. We should have a ball for like millennial girlies. Like to bring out their Akira BB.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: Charlotte Ruse Forever 21.
Wet Seal.
[00:42:56] Speaker B: Wet seal.
[00:42:57] Speaker A: Oh my God. We're doing it. We were doing it.
Just.
[00:43:02] Speaker B: We're just gonna cry about it together.
[00:43:04] Speaker A: I mean, that's better than most of what the health system is giving us right now.
But yes, the fashion choices were unhinged for someone who's out here solving a crime. I don't think it was until near the end of the book where she actually wore sneakers, some leggings and a T shirt. She actually came to well.
[00:43:25] Speaker B: Cause even there was one time when she went to her brother's house, which it was a weird frat house of these 75 year old men and very much giving Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson.
[00:43:38] Speaker A: Yes, it was.
[00:43:40] Speaker B: Anyway, so she went there and I think it was described as like, she was wearing like painted on jeans and. Or jeans, but they were painted on and then like a, A white sweater that didn't leave much to the imagination. And let me, let me just say that her brother was describing her this way.
[00:43:56] Speaker A: Yeah, Weird.
[00:43:58] Speaker B: It was very weird.
[00:43:59] Speaker A: There was a lot of emphasis on her full ass and lingerie. A lot of late lace.
[00:44:04] Speaker B: Lots of lace. Yeah. Yeah.
I didn't, I didn't like it. I didn't. I didn't like the vibes.
[00:44:10] Speaker A: It was weird.
[00:44:11] Speaker B: The optics.
[00:44:11] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely didn't like the optics. It cheapened it. Like I was like.
[00:44:15] Speaker B: It cheapened it and Hunt is like. I mean, it really played right into the kind of like, you know, not very smart and you hate him. Matt Damon is smart, though. I don't want to say that. But Hunter, Hunt, I don't like.
[00:44:28] Speaker A: Yeah, he just was. He just was there for me. I just felt like he was. Was a nice guy. He experienced trauma in his life. He was like lowborn. Then he like did this rebellion thing. Then he was a slave and he just. He didn't ask smart like, he just didn't seem smart when he was asking questions.
[00:44:47] Speaker B: Like. And also. So basically the deal was Micah was like, if you kill 2,000, whatever, how many people that.
Because there was like that war anyway. So 2000 people had died when we met him.
[00:45:01] Speaker A: He's like a paid assassin. He's like a paid assassin. Yeah, he's contract killer.
[00:45:05] Speaker B: Well paid, but also enslaved. Like, he's like, he will be freed once he kills like 2,000 people.
Like, don't you think, like somebody who's like a little bit smarter could have figured out how to get out of that? You know, maybe.
I don't know.
[00:45:19] Speaker A: I mean, it wasn't until that witch came along in the end that she was like, let me go ahead and just do that.
[00:45:24] Speaker B: That happened so quickly.
[00:45:26] Speaker A: She was like, here?
[00:45:27] Speaker B: It was like, wait, we've been 250 years with this, like, slave tattoo on your head.
[00:45:32] Speaker A: And what, she's not having it? She's like a new queen. A new day. By the way, left her. I didn't know if I could trust her at first.
[00:45:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:39] Speaker A: But I didn't trust anybody, to be honest, until the very end, I'm like, I need to know what's going on.
[00:45:44] Speaker B: I always knew I could trust Rune.
[00:45:46] Speaker A: I think that was totally knew I could trust room.
[00:45:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:49] Speaker A: But even for a lot of the time, I was like, I don't. It was Danica actually. Really bad.
[00:45:54] Speaker B: I know. I know.
[00:45:55] Speaker A: There was a moment where they were talking about Hunt. In his ever growing list of wonderful smart questions. Had asked Bryce, like, if she had ever hooked up with Rune's friends. Flynn specifically.
[00:46:10] Speaker B: Oh, Flynn.
[00:46:12] Speaker A: And Bryce had said, no. You know, I didn't want to make things messy with my brother and his. Or my cousin, as everybody knows, and his friends. But she said Danica hooked up with him.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:25] Speaker A: And I don't know how other people's girl code works. Works my volume.
[00:46:29] Speaker B: That triggered me. That triggered.
[00:46:31] Speaker A: I. I thought about you. And I was like, no, no.
[00:46:34] Speaker B: I've been that girl.
[00:46:35] Speaker A: That's not how it works here around these parts.
[00:46:37] Speaker B: No.
[00:46:38] Speaker A: You tell me one time that you were interested in someone but you're not hooking up with them because you don't want to make it messy.
[00:46:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:45] Speaker A: I'm gonna go.
There's no way on God's green earth that I'm interested in him. I'm not interested in him. I don't even see it for him.
[00:46:52] Speaker B: Hell no.
No.
[00:46:55] Speaker A: And I'm sure as hell not gonna go hook up with him because he's available and you're not. You can't or don't want to.
[00:47:00] Speaker B: But she. Yes. So she made it seem like Danica was doing her a favor.
[00:47:03] Speaker A: It was weird.
[00:47:04] Speaker B: It was very weird.
[00:47:05] Speaker A: I was like, that's not. I don't agree with this. Some people feel differently. I. That's just. That's just not how I'm set up.
[00:47:11] Speaker B: But then it ruins Flynn forever.
[00:47:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:47:14] Speaker B: So I don't know. And I liked him more than Hunt, I gotta say.
[00:47:17] Speaker A: Yeah, he was dynamic. He was doing that. I mean, I like, like, what's his name? Declan.
[00:47:21] Speaker B: Was that his name, Declan?
[00:47:22] Speaker A: Liked him.
[00:47:23] Speaker B: Loved him. Gay icon.
[00:47:24] Speaker A: Wonderful gay icon.
We also need to talk about Bryce's love of dance. It was giving me Julia stiles in the 2001 film Save the Last Dance.
[00:47:37] Speaker B: Save the Last Dance. Yes, it was.
[00:47:39] Speaker A: It was her friend Juniper, who is a actual trained, skilled dancer, who in the ballet, didn't realize, didn't know if I could trust her. Yeah, still, whatever.
She was, like, trying to throw Bryce a bone by signing her up for those, like, community dance classes. But I'm like, what does this look like in all fairness?
[00:47:58] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know. I know.
Rune said to Hunt, like, you know, she liked to dance.
She hasn't danced in two years.
[00:48:10] Speaker A: It's save the last dance. Right? Because didn't she lose?
[00:48:14] Speaker B: She was traumatized because her mom died. And then it was like, you can dance again.
[00:48:21] Speaker A: You're gonna get into Juilliard.
She goes up there with a hip hop song and your new black boyfriend.
No, no.
I also really kind of want to talk about how Bryce, instead of going to a therapist, she relied on aromatherapy.
[00:48:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I didn't like that either.
I was like, okay, so she was in Marshalls, and then she picked up, like, a diffuser, and that was that.
[00:48:52] Speaker A: She's like, when I get stressed, I just lean into the peppermint reads of my aromatherapy diffuser.
[00:48:59] Speaker B: She was like. And I just taught myself how to breathe.
[00:49:03] Speaker A: At least she meditates.
Other people. We know everybody. No.
[00:49:10] Speaker B: So. So, okay, so anything else about. Because I do want to go to. First of all, we're going to talk about the emotions, right? That is just like a very. The end. Like, the themes.
Yeah, the themes of friendship, themes of, like, starborn magic. Like, all of that is just beautiful. I do want to talk about the side characters. Okay, let's do it by side characters. You know which ones I mean, mean?
[00:49:37] Speaker A: I know exactly.
[00:49:38] Speaker B: Okay. Who do I mean?
[00:49:39] Speaker A: I mean, there's multiple.
[00:49:41] Speaker B: For multiple reasons, but two little, little ones.
[00:49:45] Speaker A: Lahaba and Syrinx.
[00:49:48] Speaker B: Now, can I tell you what song so Rip Lava.
[00:49:52] Speaker A: Okay, that was Cry 1 for me. Yeah, well, Cry 1 was probably Syrinx, because I was like, don't hurt my baby.
I was more. I was enraged by that.
[00:50:03] Speaker B: Terrified.
[00:50:04] Speaker A: Terrified. My. My whole body was clenched up also.
[00:50:06] Speaker B: It was like a terrible death. Like, it was like, you know, basically serum was like, we're Gonna waterboard him and have this, like, scary monster. And I mean, it was just terrifying.
[00:50:18] Speaker A: Part of me was, like, hoping that the monster was, like, gonna get in there and, like, save the. Save him.
[00:50:22] Speaker B: Me too. That he was, like, actually a good.
[00:50:24] Speaker A: Yeah, but that did not happen at all.
[00:50:26] Speaker B: No.
That was so scary.
[00:50:29] Speaker A: So scary.
[00:50:30] Speaker B: So basically, there was, like a big fish tank, for those of you who are. Listen, was like a giant monster in.
[00:50:37] Speaker A: It, which I don't even know why Jessica even got that thing. She's Jesa. Being the owner of the antiquities.
[00:50:44] Speaker B: Yeah, the, like, the witch slash sorceress who Love.
[00:50:49] Speaker A: By the way. I love her. Love her, you know?
[00:50:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:52] Speaker A: Did you see her as anyone in particular?
[00:50:54] Speaker B: No, she. I told you, she's got Cruella vibes.
[00:50:56] Speaker A: Yes, Yes. I loved her. I thought that she. I don't know, just the energy she was giving off.
I was thinking of her as Michell.
[00:51:07] Speaker B: Go Love from Wicked.
[00:51:11] Speaker A: Yeah, from Wicked. I was seeing her as that and I. You know that I. There was a part of this book that I had to listen to on my road trip where I thought the voice actress, for whatever reason, the way that she played her Jesiba, it was giving me the way Katherine. Yo. Kind of, like, said her words in Wicked.
[00:51:31] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
Yeah. Oh, I love that.
[00:51:34] Speaker A: That's who I kind of see.
[00:51:36] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:51:36] Speaker A: And I also saw Juniper as Jody Turner Smith.
[00:51:40] Speaker B: Yeah, I do, too.
[00:51:41] Speaker A: There was something about, like, just how long and full she is.
[00:51:45] Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes.
[00:51:46] Speaker A: That's. That's who came up in the.
[00:51:47] Speaker B: I mean, that she was just like. Like, breathtakingly beautiful. Yeah, that's what I saw. Yeah.
Lahaba, though. Okay. So can I just. So Syrinx is dying, like, you know, they're.
[00:52:00] Speaker A: Syrinx is dying, like a cat, dog, lion, hybrid. Yes. And the sweetest baby.
[00:52:05] Speaker B: Sweetest Syrinx. My favorite thing about him is, like, you had told me, we had talked about a couple days ago is that, like, he can just, like, go into another place. Like, he can just, like, Apparate. So she puts him in the cage and she's like, you stay here. And then he shows up somewhere.
[00:52:21] Speaker A: Yeah. That my man is traveling throughout the day. He does not care. He is living his best life. Wherever he wants to go, he goes, goes. Can you imagine having. Having an animal like that?
[00:52:31] Speaker B: No.
[00:52:31] Speaker A: God, I would love it if Luna was out of your sight. But you didn't know where she was.
That would terrify me.
[00:52:36] Speaker B: I knew. But she would take care of herself, though. Like, I know she would always come.
[00:52:40] Speaker A: Back to Me, I don't know about bird. Bird would be like, let's go over here and see what these people are doing over here.
[00:52:46] Speaker B: And if they're gonna make some friends.
[00:52:47] Speaker A: Yeah. If they're giving her good loving, she's gonna say, but eventually she'd come back.
[00:52:50] Speaker B: She'd come back. Yeah.
[00:52:51] Speaker A: There'd be a while where she'd be like, no, it's warm over here.
[00:52:54] Speaker B: Go explore.
[00:52:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I got friends.
[00:52:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Give me freedom.
[00:52:59] Speaker A: Like, I don't give her enough. Whatever.
[00:53:01] Speaker B: I know.
Oh, my God. Okay, but can I tell you. So I was thinking about this day. I thought you would die. So I know that the lehabah, the scene. So what happens is, like, they release the tank of water. Right. So the whole library is filling up with water. Now, I don't think we've talked about the fact that Lehabah is a fire flame.
[00:53:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:25] Speaker B: She's a fire sprite. So she's literally the flame of a candle.
[00:53:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:30] Speaker B: So this is what was going through my head when, you know, basically, she was saving the day.
[00:53:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:36] Speaker B: Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did.
[00:53:43] Speaker A: You were thinking about Elton John's Candle on the Wind.
Yeah. I mean. Yeah.
[00:53:47] Speaker B: 1972 or three. Yeah.
[00:53:49] Speaker A: Oh, is that when it came out?
[00:53:51] Speaker B: Well, okay, so.
[00:53:52] Speaker A: But it was Princess Diana that he, like, resurfaced.
[00:53:54] Speaker B: So this was Marilyn Monroe, Norma Jean, the original one. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
[00:53:59] Speaker A: I.
[00:53:59] Speaker B: It only came into my consciousness when it was England's rose.
[00:54:04] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:54:05] Speaker B: When it was Princess Diana died.
[00:54:06] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:54:07] Speaker B: And, man, did I listen to that.
[00:54:10] Speaker A: So much to be a fly on the wall in 1997.
You're like my mom. She and her best friend stayed up to watch the funeral.
[00:54:19] Speaker B: Literally, they didn't care. I was the one that cared.
No one else cared. But I. For some reason.
[00:54:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:54:27] Speaker B: Really? Really. I was affected.
[00:54:29] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, similarly to how I was affected by this stuff because it was drawn out, too. It was very emotional.
She wanted to protect her friends. And.
And I think what made me sad, too, is that she didn't have much of an existence.
[00:54:43] Speaker B: No.
[00:54:44] Speaker A: You know what I mean? And Bryce wasn't very, very nice to her.
[00:54:46] Speaker B: A lot nice to her.
[00:54:48] Speaker A: And that broke my heart, too.
[00:54:49] Speaker B: Matt Damon was.
[00:54:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:54:51] Speaker B: You know, Hunt was pretty nice to her. But, like. Okay. So when I pictured her, I thought of, like, Ursula a little bit.
[00:54:58] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:54:59] Speaker B: You know, because it's like Ursula is kind of that, like, air. Like purple air.
And so she was described as, like, you know, kind of plump. And I loved how she would just, like, lay out on her doll couch is so cute.
[00:55:12] Speaker A: I thought that was so cute. I saw her a little bit like Tinkerbell.
[00:55:17] Speaker B: Okay. I could see that.
[00:55:18] Speaker A: Like, just kind of little and, you know, surrounded by magical. A magical sort of energy.
[00:55:26] Speaker B: So sad.
[00:55:26] Speaker A: So sad.
Can I clarify something? Are you seeing Hunt as Matt Damon?
[00:55:33] Speaker B: No.
[00:55:33] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. It's just that energy. Just.
[00:55:36] Speaker B: Yeah. Just kind of like bro, you know? Yeah.
[00:55:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:55:40] Speaker B: Not much. Interesting.
[00:55:41] Speaker A: All right, so Syrinx and Lehaba, we've covered. Right.
I also want to talk about some potential baes in this book for me.
[00:55:52] Speaker B: I know. Yep. Gimme him.
[00:55:54] Speaker A: Tharion.
[00:55:56] Speaker B: Tharion, that man.
[00:55:58] Speaker A: More of him.
[00:56:00] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:56:00] Speaker A: Even in the end, he was doing everything he could to support the protection of innocent people by doing what he could to take them to whatever. What, the Blue Kingdom or whatever it was under the water?
[00:56:14] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:56:16] Speaker A: He. He's just a good guy.
[00:56:18] Speaker B: He was a good guy. And he just kept being like, I don't know, Bryce, watch out. I might take you under.
[00:56:22] Speaker A: He's. He's funny.
[00:56:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:56:24] Speaker A: He's charismatic.
[00:56:26] Speaker B: Huh.
[00:56:27] Speaker A: Like, what's the problem?
[00:56:28] Speaker B: I. What is the problem? Honestly, Hunt, she went there and, like, he's so boring.
[00:56:33] Speaker A: And he can, like, get legs and stay underwater when.
My man is versatile.
He's versatile. He's.
He's a. Yes. He's an all terrain vehicle, basically.
[00:56:46] Speaker B: Basically.
Holy.
[00:56:48] Speaker A: He shows up in a nice suit with legs.
[00:56:50] Speaker B: That's amazing.
[00:56:51] Speaker A: He goes under.
What's going on?
[00:56:54] Speaker B: I know.
[00:56:54] Speaker A: I'm sorry to go back to the. Too sweet. Lahaba and Syrinx, we gotta talk about the otters.
[00:57:00] Speaker B: Okay, I forgot about the otters. Remind me about the otters.
[00:57:03] Speaker A: The otters are like little postmen around the city. Yeah. Oh, you know, and they wear their little vests.
[00:57:09] Speaker B: You know what they're reminding me of in Wicked, when, like, there's the little postman that brings her an invitation to Emerald City. Oh, my God. I'm gonna die.
[00:57:20] Speaker A: I don't even remember that.
[00:57:22] Speaker B: Yeah. So, like, there's like, a little, I don't know, chipmunk or something in a hot air balloon.
[00:57:30] Speaker A: Oh, I. Oh, yes. There was something in that little hot air balloon. Okay. Okay.
I just. They wear little vests around the city, and Sarah J. Maas also captured me when she was like, bryce thinks that they're so adorable. She can't. Like, she squeals every time she sees one. I'm like, that's me.
[00:57:47] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely.
[00:57:48] Speaker A: I'm capturing pictures. I'm squealing. I can't because. And they're Employed in the. In the matter that they are. Because they can be land creatures, but they can also go underwater. So they can get anybody anything that they need at any time. Time.
[00:58:02] Speaker B: I'm telling you, if you want to make me cry, show me a video of otters.
Oh, my God. Dogs of the sea.
[00:58:11] Speaker A: I know. They're so sweet.
Okay, so Thean. We love him.
[00:58:15] Speaker B: Yeah, Love him.
[00:58:16] Speaker A: Adas.
[00:58:18] Speaker B: Yes, yes. The.
[00:58:20] Speaker A: Like the Prince of Hell.
[00:58:22] Speaker B: The Prince of Hell. Loved him.
Loved him. He did. He gave me Simon vibes. Yeah, yeah.
[00:58:29] Speaker A: And I told you. I was like Rhysand Vibes wearing like a Taylor tailored suit.
It's constantly sliding his hands in his pockets like he couldn't give a less about anybody that's telling him anything. I'm like, this is the type of energy. This is it that I'm into.
[00:58:44] Speaker B: He just shows up and he's like, what do you need?
[00:58:46] Speaker A: It's a little cat.
We're gonna see more of him.
[00:58:50] Speaker B: We are gonna see more of him. Yeah, for sure.
[00:58:52] Speaker A: I'm excited to see what role he plays.
[00:58:54] Speaker B: I'm done with Haunt, honestly. There are other men in the.
[00:59:01] Speaker A: Yeah, we don't care about him.
[00:59:02] Speaker B: We're done with him.
[00:59:03] Speaker A: I told you. The fan art coming out of this is so unhinged.
[00:59:06] Speaker B: I can't even.
[00:59:07] Speaker A: Because I was like, okay, let me just go over here and see what people are doing. And it's. It's no shade to the artists themselves, but all the art is like.
It's like bare chested, right? It's like a bare chested. The wings and then him wearing a backwards cap.
[00:59:24] Speaker B: No. Okay, okay. That. I think I told you about this, like, before we read the book. I was like, there's this one scene you did.
[00:59:30] Speaker A: And see, okay, you told me about the backwards cap. And I was like. In one of the first scenes with the pack of devils before they get killed, one of them is wearing like a backwards cap.
[00:59:39] Speaker B: So it's not. No.
[00:59:40] Speaker A: Yeah. And I was like, is it one of them?
[00:59:42] Speaker B: Yeah. No, no.
[00:59:44] Speaker A: But when Hunt put his hat on.
[00:59:45] Speaker B: Backwards, I was like, oh, my God. And she's like, I recorded the game for you.
Where have you been? I recorded the game for you.
[00:59:52] Speaker A: At least she can't cook. I was at least glad that he was in there cooking most.
[00:59:56] Speaker B: Yeah, that's true.
[00:59:56] Speaker A: That's tr. Help me.
Okay. We also need to talk a little bit about. Okay. If you are interested in smut. If. Smut. If the smut level in these books interest you. This isn't giving you what you Need. Even when it.
Something happens, it doesn't.
[01:00:14] Speaker B: It's not.
[01:00:15] Speaker A: No. And frankly, I'm. The whole time, I'm sitting there going.
[01:00:18] Speaker B: Has anybody showered the whole time? The whole time.
And I don't know. I'm surprised because this world is, like, a little bit more advanced.
[01:00:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:29] Speaker B: So you would think that it was like, you'd, like, first of all.
Okay, I reread that shower scene.
[01:00:36] Speaker A: Yeah. We need to talk about the shower scene.
[01:00:37] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:00:38] Speaker A: Because I have a point about it, which makes me be like, is everybody all right?
[01:00:41] Speaker B: Okay. So remember how we've been talking about triangle showers?
[01:00:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:44] Speaker B: Okay, so for those of you who don't know, there's something. There's like, a viral thing going on around whatever Instagram TikTok about is your. And it's for men, right? Do they. Triangle shower?
[01:00:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:58] Speaker B: What is it? You tell us what it is.
[01:01:00] Speaker A: It's when a man just puts soap in his hands, and he just takes it and, like, takes both. Both hands, and he basically just slides it down his. Like the. Like the.
[01:01:12] Speaker B: The.
[01:01:13] Speaker A: Not the curves, but sort of the V. Yeah, the V. Like, around his trunk, between his legs. Legs, and just scrubs like that. And that's it. That's it.
[01:01:23] Speaker B: One and done.
[01:01:24] Speaker A: One and done.
Christian, for all that is holy, tell me you do more than the triangle shower.
[01:01:33] Speaker B: I'm so grossed out right now by.
[01:01:35] Speaker A: What you just said.
A good man, a solid.
[01:01:38] Speaker B: I've never heard of this. Oh, it's all over.
[01:01:41] Speaker A: Oh, my God. Your comrades. Your comrades are twin.
[01:01:45] Speaker B: Your people. That's a rough one.
[01:01:47] Speaker A: Yes, but I don't even think that happened here.
[01:01:51] Speaker B: Okay, you're talking about the one where, like, he had gone out and killed a bunch of people. But I am talking.
[01:01:55] Speaker A: Yes. And then he comes back and he's, like, traumatized in her shower, so he's.
[01:01:59] Speaker B: Got blood all over him. Like, other people's blood and guts. Okay, so she takes a bar of soap. First of all, she takes the shampoo and then. And does his hair and hopefully his wings, too. Right? Like, those are hair, Jillian.
[01:02:16] Speaker A: I don't know, but keep going.
[01:02:17] Speaker B: So anyway, so then she. She, like, whatever. She takes the bar of soap. I like, she passes over her hand over, like, twice. And then apparently it's all done. And. And then she goes, well, you can take care of. What did she say?
[01:02:32] Speaker A: The bottom half.
[01:02:32] Speaker B: You can take care of the bottom half.
Spoiler alert. He doesn't take care of the bottom half.
[01:02:41] Speaker A: I was reading that, and I was like, when are we circling back to ass.
[01:02:46] Speaker B: I knew that you and I would both be reacting the same way.
[01:02:50] Speaker A: I was, like, flipping back and forth. I was like, nobody's telling me about him setting up that butt crack. What's going on?
[01:03:01] Speaker B: You should do that on a normal day. But on a day after you killed a bunch of people, like, what's going on?
[01:03:08] Speaker A: Things are not great down there. I'm like, sorry. But, like, even if he was in a stupor, she should have turned and been like, lower half. You still need to get.
But she. They. She helped dry him off and put on fresh.
[01:03:21] Speaker B: I was like, yes. I was like, what did you do? What are you doing?
And then you're gonna get in a bed with him. What?
[01:03:30] Speaker A: Okay, this is great because there's another scene where they. They, they. It's the closest they really come to having sex in this book.
[01:03:38] Speaker B: Oh, when he's injured and like.
Or, no, the very end.
[01:03:43] Speaker A: No, it was right before the drug drop. And. Oh, right, they're in. They're in her living room. Like, on her couch. No. When did this happen? What I'm saying is she had just told him that she had started her period.
And then they fool around and there's no mention of any blood going on. But I'm sitting there thinking, thinking, what's going on with my sister here?
My sister is. What? How is this? What's going on?
[01:04:13] Speaker B: Huh? Is in this realm, is the period. Are periods the same thing? Because if so, I don't like the optics of this.
[01:04:21] Speaker A: She has a period every three months, apparently.
[01:04:24] Speaker B: That's okay. I forgot about that.
[01:04:26] Speaker A: But what does that mean? Is it still happening in the same way that it's happening for us here in the human race?
How have periods evolved by the year 15,000? Something.
[01:04:36] Speaker B: But the thing is, though. No. So in Acotar, I think it was the same thing. Like, if you're a Fae, then you had your period every three months, but that also meant that it was, like, super heavy, so.
[01:04:52] Speaker A: Christ.
[01:04:53] Speaker B: Well, then, not us on here talking about fairy periods.
[01:04:59] Speaker A: No, this. It just. I was sitting there thinking, somebody needs to explain what's going on to me. He had also mentioned that she had, like, her foot resting on something. He was like, I want to put all those toes.
[01:05:08] Speaker B: Okay, Okay.
[01:05:10] Speaker A: I was like, if that works for you.
[01:05:12] Speaker B: Jesus.
[01:05:13] Speaker A: I don't know about all that.
[01:05:14] Speaker B: Christ.
It was very weird, too. Like, the way that he talked about it. It was like a little bit like this little piggy. This little piggy. Yeah.
[01:05:22] Speaker A: Ew. I hate it.
You know something that I'd like To talk about is that. That there was a lot of racism going on in this book.
[01:05:29] Speaker B: Oh, 100%.
[01:05:31] Speaker A: It was vicious, too. The way Sarah wrote it was. I mean, like, it was cutting deep.
Half breed, slut trash, threats against her life. You're not welcome here. All of these things. It was bad.
[01:05:47] Speaker B: That was bad.
Did she ever really, like, address that? Like, talk about it or.
[01:05:52] Speaker A: Not really. What, in the book? Yeah, not really. I mean. I mean, it just seemed like everybody kind of, like, forgave her and saw what she was really about at the end when she saved everybody. You know what I mean? But I don't think anybody ever apologized. Didn't seem like it when the half breed came to save everybody's ass.
Not me being like. Yes, yes.
[01:06:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:06:18] Speaker A: See? Yeah, See? Yeah.
[01:06:20] Speaker B: Can we talk about the end? Which was crazy, by the way.
Tell me your thoughts about the end.
[01:06:28] Speaker A: Where do you want me to start?
[01:06:30] Speaker B: Well, I guess. Okay, so we'll start with, like, the Micah reveal. Okay. You know, so basically, they're.
I.
[01:06:38] Speaker A: Okay, I'm fine with it being Micah, but I honestly wasn't ex. I was expecting it to be a little bit more of, like, a surprise. Like, I was expecting the culprit to be a little less apparent.
[01:06:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:06:52] Speaker A: I think I. It wasn't as though hearing that Micah had been attacked that first night that Danika and the pack of devils died. It. I knew that. I know that that was supposed to, like, throw us off his scent because it's like, oh, well, he was attacked, too, so there's no way that he could be behind all of this. But I just. I was expecting someone just a little bit out of left field.
[01:07:13] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. And something more. I mean. Mean, it just kind of made me sad about.
About that it was like, actually Danica, you know, that it was. Danica had taken the drug, and so she's the one who killed them all.
[01:07:27] Speaker A: And I think it's even more sad to think about the fact that he injected her with it.
[01:07:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, wait, Micah did?
[01:07:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:07:33] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:07:34] Speaker A: He injected her with it knowing what it would do?
[01:07:36] Speaker B: When did he inject her?
[01:07:39] Speaker A: I would need to. Let me look.
[01:07:40] Speaker B: Was it like when they were talking about the birthday. Briggs. Philip Briggs?
[01:07:44] Speaker A: It may have been.
I would need to go through and read that whole moment. Okay. But he definitely injected her, right?
[01:07:51] Speaker B: He must have. I mean, I don't know.
[01:07:52] Speaker A: She wouldn't take it on her own. No, no, he injected her and.
And that's scared. That's sad to me that, like. Yeah, she probably, you know, she was Obviously out of her own mind, but, like, there's a sliver of her that I think was, like, aware of what she was in. Because she was begging for her life.
[01:08:09] Speaker B: I think so. Yeah.
[01:08:10] Speaker A: And that's sad that they were talking.
[01:08:12] Speaker B: About, like, when they were doing those experiments with the drug, that. That's kind of what happened is, like, people were, you know, just, like, just destroying everything but also begging. Yeah.
[01:08:22] Speaker A: So sad. And what was sad about that, too, is that to beg in her life, basically, it was validated basically, you know, based on what she was experiencing. But to beg for her life made her. Based on the wolves way of doing things. Like, literally less worthy of going to the bone quarter.
[01:08:46] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[01:08:48] Speaker A: But she. Oh, God. There was that whole thing, too.
So sad.
But, yeah, I mean, I.
It was really interesting. I mean, it was so intricate, the ending, from the time that Micah, you know, basically revealed all the things that he had done to.
[01:09:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:09:08] Speaker A: I mean, Lehabah giving Bryce more time. Bryce going and getting that gun and ending him and, like, absolutely slaughtering him.
[01:09:17] Speaker B: Just, like, cutting him in half.
[01:09:19] Speaker A: Yeah. And then she drops her dog off at her apartment, sets out some food, and it's like, see ya. And I'm like, if all these demons are flying around, Birdie is gonna be in a bunker somewhere. I can't think about her being in the apartment whenever.
[01:09:30] Speaker B: Well, yeah, I mean, I think she. I don't know. She probably thinks Syrians. Syrinx can, like, take care of himself.
[01:09:36] Speaker A: Probably. Yeah.
[01:09:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:09:37] Speaker A: I just know me, I'd be like, I. I can't be out here fighting when I don't know where my baby is.
[01:09:42] Speaker B: No. Oh, totally. No. Yeah. No.
[01:09:44] Speaker A: And then. Yeah, I mean, it just kept going. It just kept going.
[01:09:49] Speaker B: Literally, it was like. Because, you know when you, like, read these books and you're like, there's got to be one scene at the end that's like the. Whatever it's called. What are they? Like, the final, you know, scene. No, there were, like, seven of them.
[01:10:04] Speaker A: There were seven scenes then, like, demons have actually come upon the city. They're coming from every which way. Bryce goes out there to start fighting them all. Like, the. The rich, wealthy people are basically like, no, we need to stay protected. We need to keep our people protected.
[01:10:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:10:20] Speaker A: Humans just have to fend for themselves.
[01:10:22] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Veneer. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:10:24] Speaker A: All it. Like, the fay ox and the wolfs. The wolves, they basically, like, turn and they help out the fight, which I thought was really great.
Hunt, like, hurls his body toward Earth in an attempt to save Bryce. Bryce does the drop. Now, that moment, that was so sad.
And she puts her hand on that disc, and she's, like, asking for anybody to anchor her in the drop, but nobody answers. But then she sees the disc lit up over at the. At the bone.
What's it called?
[01:10:58] Speaker B: The Bone Quarter.
[01:10:59] Speaker A: The Bone Quarter.
And, yeah, everybody's like, well, it can't be Danica, because Danica's not real or she's not alive. But Danika's last essence, it was, like, a tiny bit.
[01:11:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:11:11] Speaker A: Like, stayed behind to help Bryce do.
[01:11:13] Speaker B: The job and that. Okay.
[01:11:14] Speaker A: So I cried.
[01:11:17] Speaker B: I know. I know.
I love the two of them.
[01:11:20] Speaker A: Like.
[01:11:20] Speaker B: Like, that. That's what I loved about this book. Like, it wasn't. You know, Hunt was kind of annoying. Like, it. Like, the. The story. The Hunt and Bryce story was secondary to the story of, like, these good friendships, you know?
And so I really. I think Sarah J. Maas does a really good job of that. Yeah. Like, we'll get to it in Acotar. But, like.
And also, when they kept saying to each other, so Bryce and Danica would say to each other, like, light it up.
[01:11:46] Speaker A: Up.
[01:11:46] Speaker B: Light it up, I thought. And then I kept thinking about the bear. Let her rip. You know?
[01:11:53] Speaker A: Yeah. It's very similar to that. She's like, light it up, Danica. And then stop when she's down there. And Danica's like, well, now you have to ascend. I don't want to cry on this microphone.
[01:12:03] Speaker B: I know.
[01:12:03] Speaker A: And Bryce is like, I. I don't really want to. Let's just stay down here together. And Bryce is like, I have to go. And anyway, she's like, we don't. You don't have a lot of time. And so she's like, I'll be with you every step of the way. I'm always with you. And. And then Bryce starts running because she's gotta take, like, run off this Runway and then, like, jump to ascend to get to the surface of consciousness so she'll still live. And Bryce is, like, on her heels, like, telling her to go, go, go. You know, whatever. And then she turns to her as she's leaving. She's like, I love you. And then she's gone forever.
I'm talking about. I was ugly crying.
[01:12:40] Speaker B: I know. I know.
[01:12:41] Speaker A: At 4pm on a Thursday afternoon.
[01:12:45] Speaker B: Birdie's like, let's go outside.
[01:12:47] Speaker A: Yeah. And I'm like, not now. I'm ruined.
[01:12:50] Speaker B: Oh, light it up, Deidre. Light it up.
[01:12:54] Speaker A: It was just so sad. And then at the End when she looks over there to the bone quarter and she sees the rest of the pack of devils waiting, including Connor.
[01:13:04] Speaker B: Sarah.
[01:13:05] Speaker A: Not this girl. I do not need this.
[01:13:08] Speaker B: I know.
[01:13:08] Speaker A: I've got a lot weighing on me right now. I don't need this.
[01:13:13] Speaker B: It was so good though.
[01:13:14] Speaker A: It was a fantastic book. I can't wait to start the next one.
[01:13:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. And that even though like the. All the little things like when she talked about, you know when they're in college and they were like chased by some like the drug dealers or whatever.
[01:13:31] Speaker A: Yeah. The animal traders, like the illegal animal trade.
[01:13:34] Speaker B: And Danika was like, I'm really. I love you. I'm sorry.
And she goes, shut your eyes, Danika. And then just like that's when you really see her power coming out. Yeah.
[01:13:45] Speaker A: And Danika knew and nobody else knew, which is incredible. Okay, one thing that I will say I. On a scale. Okay. You know how many times we talk about on this show how annoying we. Or how annoyed we get with the main female character On a scale from one to five. Five being like, I cannot stand her. One being like, she's cool, love her. No notes.
[01:14:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:14:06] Speaker A: Where are you on the annoyance scale, Bryce? Yeah.
[01:14:11] Speaker B: That's really hard. 2.5. 2.5.
[01:14:14] Speaker A: I said two and a half. Three.
[01:14:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:14:16] Speaker A: And she, she only irritated me in moments where it's like, girl, you're not thinking rationally through this. And also she had a point where I think I talked to you a little bit about this today where she is.
And I. I realized that this is something to be admired. But she was so self sacrificial that it grated on me. Cause I'm like, this is not a smart deal.
[01:14:40] Speaker B: Right, right. And I think that was like. It was like she was heartbroken. Like she was devastated. And so she's like, I don't care anymore, you know.
But like I think just the emotions of this book was. It was incredible. Like you could really feel for it. And that's why Sarah has ruined us for any of the other books.
[01:14:58] Speaker A: No.
[01:14:59] Speaker B: God.
[01:15:00] Speaker A: Yeah. Cuz you feel everybody's pain.
[01:15:02] Speaker B: You feel everybody's pain. You know, Kind of like. Do you remember? And it wasn't quite like this. Like in the Rebecca Yaros third book when.
[01:15:11] Speaker A: The Rebecca Yaros third, third book, the Onyx Storm.
[01:15:15] Speaker B: Do you remember? Wait, who was it? Was it Quinn and Quinn's friend died?
But like those scenes like that, like that was a very emotional scene. But it was also just. Just like random, you know, it wasn't like you were like, always kind of feeling these feelings. But Sarah J. Maas, man.
[01:15:33] Speaker A: Yeah, you. She did such a good job of, like, establishing, like, an emotional connection between two people from the very start that, like, you got to see, like, the depth of their, like, emotions for one another. Where I didn't. I didn't see that necessarily between those two characters.
[01:15:50] Speaker B: No.
[01:15:50] Speaker A: That you're talking in Onyx Storm between.
[01:15:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
And the thing is, like, they're both very flawed people. Like, Danika's very flawed, as is Bryce, you know, but their history, like, based on, like, knowing each other's families and friends and, like, that. She really did a great job even given, like, even that she. When she was, like, dead for the whole book.
I know, I know.
[01:16:14] Speaker A: Okay.
Thinking about. I'm excited about the next book.
[01:16:17] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:16:18] Speaker A: And when I was looking through fan art, I started to see some things that I'm like, I think.
Okay, Rune, you said you loved Run. I love Rune. I told you that I pictured him as the very famous DJ Skrillex.
And I googled Skrillex's picture just to make sure I was right and who I was thinking about. I was right.
[01:16:40] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[01:16:41] Speaker A: I was thinking about it. I like you. I'm going to have to change my.
[01:16:45] Speaker B: Yeah, I had to change it.
[01:16:46] Speaker A: I'm gonna have to change my image of you.
But I think there's gonna be something between him and our girl Hypaxia.
[01:16:52] Speaker B: Oh, for sure. Yeah. 100% love that.
Yeah, they were definitely.
[01:16:58] Speaker A: I love him too, because he's not toxic at all. He's like, I don't care that you have more power than me. That's great.
[01:17:02] Speaker B: I did love too that, like, so when Hunt the asshole, my man is.
[01:17:08] Speaker A: Fighting for his life, you're like, kill him.
[01:17:13] Speaker B: He. So when he. There's the second murder, and he's like, okay, Bryce, come. We're gonna go look at the second murder. You know, And Bryce is like, no, no, no. I. I don't know if I want to. Because basically it's the same. She's, you know, be re traumatized.
[01:17:26] Speaker A: He didn't care.
[01:17:26] Speaker B: He was like, come on, you're going. And then Ruhn was there, and he. And he looked at me. He was like, you're a fucking asshole. Which I was like, yeah, come on. Are you not even thinking about that?
[01:17:36] Speaker A: Yeah, no, he wasn't.
[01:17:38] Speaker B: It's a little limited.
[01:17:44] Speaker A: Very much so. Not. Does not rank high on our book boyfriends list.
[01:17:49] Speaker B: No. Honestly, Bryce is probably one of my favorite female characters so far.
[01:17:54] Speaker A: Me too. Yeah. I really like her. She might be top of the list in terms of just, you know, just her being dynamic, being smart.
[01:18:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Her sort of like, willingness to be.
[01:18:08] Speaker A: Wrong, her fighting spirits.
And I thought that she was reckless without being too reckless.
[01:18:16] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[01:18:17] Speaker A: You know, like, she didn't. She wasn't always so reckless that it was like, girl, now this is annoying.
[01:18:22] Speaker B: Right, Right. But it was like her grief was also like. It was very.
You could feel her grief and her. And like, you could see that she did certain things out of the grief, you know? Yeah.
[01:18:35] Speaker A: Sad.
[01:18:35] Speaker B: I know.
He does. Okay, so we're going to have to change it, cuz Skrillex, this is. That's what he's giving.
[01:18:42] Speaker A: I mean, it's like the shave side head, the long slick black hair and the tongue. Not tongue, but the lip ring.
[01:18:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't like that at all.
[01:18:50] Speaker A: Not my aesthetic, but so.
[01:18:56] Speaker B: Okay, so anything else? Or should we go to theories?
[01:19:02] Speaker A: I don't have anything else.
[01:19:03] Speaker B: Okay, so theories, I guess we talked about like Ruhn and Hypaxia, and then I'm hoping Hunt dies.
[01:19:12] Speaker A: Wow. Wow.
No love for Hunt.
[01:19:16] Speaker B: Don't really like him.
I hope we see more of the Prince of Hell.
[01:19:21] Speaker A: Yes. We definitely need to see more of Adeus. I keep wanting to call him Adidas. Adidas.
[01:19:27] Speaker B: Me too. Adidas. Yeah.
[01:19:29] Speaker A: Missed opportunity.
[01:19:30] Speaker B: The Apple is your comp company. Yeah, we.
And also Therian. I hope we see more Ethereum.
[01:19:37] Speaker A: Well, definitely at the epilogue, you see a little bit of a connection between Jesiba, our sorceress, and our Prince of.
[01:19:48] Speaker B: Hell, alias Adias Aidas.
[01:19:52] Speaker A: Yeah. And there is definitely. He's definitely going to play a bigger role.
[01:19:55] Speaker B: Love it.
[01:19:56] Speaker A: In future books.
[01:19:57] Speaker B: Love it. It. And I just love her. I want to see her more.
[01:19:59] Speaker A: More of her, for sure.
[01:20:00] Speaker B: Queen. Want to see more of her.
[01:20:01] Speaker A: I am also curious about the relationship between her and Hypaxia because they're both like Jessica, what does she do? She like, renounced the.
[01:20:11] Speaker B: The. The house of Sky. No, no, no. The witches are the house of something. The renounce the witches, basically.
[01:20:18] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah.
[01:20:24] Speaker B: Yeah. But so like, maybe they're. They're related.
[01:20:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Or something. Because there's some sort of. There's recognition there and there's respect.
[01:20:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:20:33] Speaker A: But it's. It's interesting because Hypaxia took the. The Queen. The Witch Queen role.
[01:20:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:20:40] Speaker A: And it's like. Was that supposed to be Jessiba? Yeah.
[01:20:44] Speaker B: Oh, interesting. So maybe some bad blood there.
[01:20:47] Speaker A: Who knows, you know? But Jesiba doesn't seem like, bad to me.
[01:20:50] Speaker B: Me no, no, no. Not at all.
All right, I think that we should get ready to play mash. Mash.
[01:21:02] Speaker A: We're gonna set some music at this time. Yes.
[01:21:05] Speaker B: Okay. Okay, get that rolling.
[01:21:08] Speaker A: So we're gonna set it up as you usually do. The way this will work is that Jillian and I will basically. Jillian will have our categories that we're going to use for this week's episode. And then we are going to basically predict each other's future. Let's do it with fun, sometimes wacky, sometimes weird.
[01:21:30] Speaker B: Lots of weird and wacky coming from over here.
[01:21:32] Speaker A: Okay. All right. She's gonna screw my feature over.
Okay, we'll roll that moment. Yeah.
[01:21:37] Speaker B: Okay, so.
Okay, so I'm gonna tell you. Going to put down four boys. Okay.
[01:21:44] Speaker A: For you.
[01:21:45] Speaker B: For you.
Or wait, no, you're going to put down four boys for me?
[01:21:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:21:50] Speaker B: Right. Okay, so put down four boys for me.
[01:21:53] Speaker A: I actually like when you tell me the boys for both of us.
For yourself.
[01:21:58] Speaker B: For myself.
[01:21:59] Speaker A: Like how we did it last time. You gave me four boys.
[01:22:01] Speaker B: Okay.
I'm going to say Paul R.
Okay. But Paul Rudd. And he really likes toes.
[01:22:12] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:22:13] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:22:13] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:22:15] Speaker B: This one is a great one.
[01:22:16] Speaker A: This is your future.
[01:22:18] Speaker B: Damn it. Wait, I thought we were doing the opposite. Okay, fine.
Okay. Can I please give you one?
[01:22:26] Speaker A: Sure.
[01:22:27] Speaker B: Okay, so no, I'm gonna give you mine, and then I'm gonna. I'm gonna surprise you with two. I'm gonna. About that.
Can I surprise you with two?
[01:22:35] Speaker A: Sure.
[01:22:35] Speaker B: Okay, so another one of mine is run.
[01:22:39] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:22:41] Speaker B: And then we have. Okay, so we're gonna do Prince Eric from Little Mermaid.
[01:22:48] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:22:48] Speaker B: But the actual actor.
[01:22:49] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:22:50] Speaker B: From the 1989 film.
[01:22:51] Speaker A: Okay. What's his name?
[01:22:53] Speaker B: Christopher or something.
[01:22:54] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:22:57] Speaker B: And is that three?
[01:22:59] Speaker A: Yep.
[01:23:01] Speaker B: Okay, and then I'm going to go with.
We're going to go with the. The Rock Johnson. Doing Johnson. That's not my preference. I thought that I was going to give you one. And this is just how.
[01:23:14] Speaker A: This is just how the future goes.
[01:23:18] Speaker B: Okay, so now I'm giving you what? Pets. No, no, no.
[01:23:22] Speaker A: Do you want me to give you boys?
[01:23:23] Speaker B: You give me boys, but I'm giving you two.
[01:23:24] Speaker A: Okay, who are the two that you're giving me?
[01:23:27] Speaker B: Professor Dilliman.
[01:23:28] Speaker A: Who is that from? From Wicked.
[01:23:30] Speaker B: Wicked.
[01:23:31] Speaker A: The goat.
Okay.
[01:23:36] Speaker B: I was so excited when I thought about that.
[01:23:39] Speaker A: I love it.
[01:23:40] Speaker B: Okay, okay, so Professor Dillon. Second one. Oh, shoot. I had three. Okay, your second one is Theo James.
[01:23:49] Speaker A: Love that.
[01:23:50] Speaker B: But.
[01:23:50] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:23:53] Speaker B: But he has a pregnancy kink, and so he wants you, every time you have sex, to wear fake Pregnancy belly. And on birthdays and holidays, he wants you to wear a fake pregnancy belly.
[01:24:04] Speaker A: Jillian, how much time did you spend on stretching?
[01:24:07] Speaker B: This just came to me.
[01:24:09] Speaker A: Love that. Okay.
[01:24:10] Speaker B: Okay. No, two more.
[01:24:13] Speaker A: I'm gonna do Hell Prince.
[01:24:20] Speaker B: Hell Prince. Okay. Adias Adidas. Yep.
[01:24:23] Speaker A: And who else?
[01:24:27] Speaker B: I could give you a suggestion.
[01:24:29] Speaker A: Finally. Go ahead, give me a suggestion.
[01:24:31] Speaker B: Ghost of Patrick Swayze.
[01:24:33] Speaker A: Great.
[01:24:33] Speaker B: Okay. But he's a ghost, so that's fine.
[01:24:36] Speaker A: It's non committal.
[01:24:37] Speaker B: Okay.
Okay. He can pop up, in and out, wherever he wants to. Okay.
[01:24:44] Speaker A: Okay. That could have gone very nasty.
[01:24:52] Speaker B: Okay. Okay, here we go. Okay, so next category.
[01:24:56] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:24:56] Speaker B: Type of bond.
[01:24:58] Speaker A: Ooh.
[01:24:59] Speaker B: So. Okay, so mine were soul bonded.
[01:25:04] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:25:05] Speaker B: That's for Mario. I'm gonna. So confused here.
[01:25:09] Speaker A: How we did it last time was you were giving me what you would want in your future.
[01:25:13] Speaker B: Okay, so let's do.
And then can I give you a couple?
[01:25:17] Speaker A: Sure.
[01:25:18] Speaker B: So soul bonded.
[01:25:19] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:25:22] Speaker B: Dream sharing.
[01:25:26] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:25:27] Speaker B: Normal human bond.
[01:25:29] Speaker A: Ew. Who wants that?
[01:25:30] Speaker B: Nobody.
And let's go. Curse to crave each other.
[01:25:36] Speaker A: Curse to crave each other.
[01:25:37] Speaker B: No, no, no. Okay. Sorry. Bonded by ancient prophecy.
Okay, I'm gonna give.
[01:25:43] Speaker A: You could just pick for me, because I don't even know what kind of bonds one would have.
[01:25:46] Speaker B: So types of bonds. I'm gonna go to.
Fated mates.
[01:25:50] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:25:53] Speaker B: Enemies. This is my favorite. Enemies to lovers. Blood pact.
[01:25:57] Speaker A: Ooh, yeah.
[01:26:02] Speaker B: Okay. And then cursed to crave each other.
[01:26:06] Speaker A: Cursed to crave each other.
[01:26:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:26:08] Speaker A: Curse to crave each other.
[01:26:11] Speaker B: And also. How about just friends?
[01:26:14] Speaker A: Sure.
How that's any different than any of the other bonds that I've had? Who knows?
[01:26:20] Speaker B: Okay. Okay.
Okay.
And then the next one is. Is pets.
[01:26:27] Speaker A: Kind of pets or number of pets?
[01:26:29] Speaker B: Kind of pets. Okay, so mine is Luna.
Syrinx.
Mother Goose.
[01:26:41] Speaker A: Okay.
Love that.
[01:26:44] Speaker B: And Beethoven the dog.
[01:26:46] Speaker A: I love that.
[01:26:46] Speaker B: I know.
[01:26:48] Speaker A: Okay, I'll do Birdie.
I will do Syrinx.
[01:26:56] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:26:57] Speaker A: I'll do the knock.
[01:26:59] Speaker B: Oh, God. Okay.
[01:27:02] Speaker A: And I'll do wolf pup.
[01:27:05] Speaker B: Wolf pup. And the knock. Okay. Okay.
Jobs I will do.
Let's see. I mean, let's just go with Doula.
[01:27:20] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:27:21] Speaker B: Go to Doula.
[01:27:22] Speaker A: Perfect.
[01:27:24] Speaker B: Work for the Viper queen.
[01:27:26] Speaker A: Yes. Liked her too.
[01:27:28] Speaker B: Mm. Did like her.
Let's do Secret Service agent.
[01:27:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:27:35] Speaker B: Don't know why.
[01:27:37] Speaker A: Which administration?
Which administration? Are we talking about fictional or real?
[01:27:43] Speaker B: We're talking about Obama for sure.
[01:27:45] Speaker A: We can't go back. We can't go back in the past.
[01:27:48] Speaker B: We can't.
[01:27:49] Speaker A: God.
[01:27:49] Speaker B: Okay. All right, well, I guess we're gonna go for Rune.
[01:27:53] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:27:54] Speaker B: That could be A little sexy little thing.
[01:27:56] Speaker A: Totally.
[01:27:58] Speaker B: And then another job. Another job.
I don't know. What are the other jobs in that?
[01:28:05] Speaker A: You could be a secret service agent.
You could be a.
Like a otter postman.
[01:28:16] Speaker B: Otter postman, Please.
Okay, jobs for you.
[01:28:22] Speaker A: Okay, I'm gonna say gallery.
Docent.
[01:28:27] Speaker B: Docent. Okay.
[01:28:30] Speaker A: I'm gonna say an infantry 33rd infantryman.
[01:28:38] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:28:41] Speaker A: I'm going to say.
What else? Oh, a manicurist.
[01:28:46] Speaker B: Oh.
[01:28:50] Speaker A: From the book.
What else?
And I'm gonna say a bottle service girl at the White Raven.
[01:28:59] Speaker B: Love it.
Okay. They had a great boss.
[01:29:05] Speaker A: Great boss.
[01:29:06] Speaker B: What was his name?
[01:29:08] Speaker A: Ruga. Was it Rogas or something?
[01:29:10] Speaker B: Something like that gay icon.
Okay, now we're going to do Powers O. Okay. Okay, so this is one of the power I want. Lately you're always wearing sunscreen.
[01:29:27] Speaker A: Okay. Spf.
[01:29:29] Speaker B: Just like your two four seven. Yes. Your skin is spf.
[01:29:33] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:29:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
How about.
Okay, you can enter people's dreams and like, fuck with their thoughts.
[01:29:43] Speaker A: That is dark.
[01:29:45] Speaker B: That's what I want.
[01:29:45] Speaker A: Okay. Freddy Krueger.
[01:29:51] Speaker B: How about you can like, shrink or like, gigantify yourself like honey, I shrunk the kids. Yes, exactly.
[01:30:00] Speaker A: Honey, I shrunk.
[01:30:01] Speaker B: Who was that? Who was his name? What was his. That actor, what was it?
[01:30:04] Speaker A: Rick Moranis.
[01:30:04] Speaker B: Rick Moranis.
I had that. That VHS too.
[01:30:09] Speaker A: Yeah. Yes, that I know for a fact that VHS was in Barrington, Illinois.
[01:30:18] Speaker B: And then I guess I'll do.
You can change your eye color or whatever you want.
[01:30:25] Speaker A: Okay, great.
[01:30:26] Speaker B: What are yours?
[01:30:28] Speaker A: Okay, I'm gonna be a shape shifter.
[01:30:31] Speaker B: Love it.
[01:30:32] Speaker A: Any. Any shape.
What else?
[01:30:35] Speaker B: Oh, I did actually think about this because I was like, what if you could be a shape shifter and then just turn into Laura Loomer and just.
[01:30:41] Speaker A: Go to templates like impacting what's going on for good.
[01:30:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:30:46] Speaker A: I would fear that that would come with the risk of being locked in her body and mind for a long time. Like, if you got in there and you got lost. You know what I mean? You got lost. I mean, you would gone forever. Yeah. There's no way you come back from that unscathed. No, I'm also gonna say powers healing.
[01:31:07] Speaker B: Healing.
[01:31:10] Speaker A: Like a med witch.
[01:31:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:31:13] Speaker A: What other powers am I going to have?
[01:31:15] Speaker B: I have one for you.
[01:31:16] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:31:17] Speaker B: You have the most money in the world, but you can only pay in quarters.
[01:31:22] Speaker A: People are getting these quarters.
I could do a lot of good with that. Yeah, Just putting quarters back into circulation.
And one more.
[01:31:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:31:34] Speaker A: See, I think. I think I've said this one before, but we'll do it again. An oldie but goodie. Eating anything I want and not gaining any weight.
[01:31:43] Speaker B: Love it. Okay, all right, so let us. We'll just do the dice. Should we do the same number for each?
[01:31:51] Speaker A: Did you want to do the numbers across the bottom? Remember? Because we had, like, numbers last time, like 0, 1, 3, 4 for kids. But you may not want to do kids. You want to do pets. Like, how many pets?
[01:32:00] Speaker B: Oh, no, we could do either one. We could do either one.
[01:32:02] Speaker A: So I'll choose pets, because.
[01:32:04] Speaker B: Okay, let's do pets. So sorry.
Pets. I guess you could say 17.
[01:32:11] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:32:14] Speaker B: Two.
[01:32:14] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:32:18] Speaker B: Three.
[01:32:19] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:32:20] Speaker B: And 21.

101.
Oh, yeah.
Let's do 88.

[01:32:35] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:32:37] Speaker A: All right. Wait. Okay. For MASH, where would you have a mansion?
[01:32:41] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Oh, I was thinking about this, and I think it's, like. It could be a mansion, but it also could be, like, a castle. That's more romantic. Ish.
[01:32:47] Speaker A: Right?
[01:32:49] Speaker B: So interesting. Interesting.
I would have a castle in On a Cloud.
[01:32:55] Speaker A: On a cloud.
[01:32:56] Speaker B: No, that's Les Misan.
[01:32:58] Speaker A: I'm gonna change the game then to cash.
[01:33:00] Speaker B: Cash. Do it.
[01:33:01] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:33:01] Speaker B: Castle in.
What's the wolf?
[01:33:06] Speaker A: Moonwood.
[01:33:07] Speaker B: Moonwood.
[01:33:08] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:33:09] Speaker B: And apartment in cbd.
[01:33:12] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:33:14] Speaker B: Shack and the Viper. The meat market.
[01:33:19] Speaker A: Yeah, you're thinking like I am.
[01:33:22] Speaker B: And a house in.
Where's the place that her parents live?
[01:33:27] Speaker A: It's out there somewhere. The suburbs.
[01:33:29] Speaker B: Suburbs.
[01:33:33] Speaker A: Okay, let's see.
Okay, I'm gonna have a castle in the.
The Eastros River.
So it's gonna be under one of.
[01:33:44] Speaker B: Those bubbles with Tarian.
[01:33:47] Speaker A: Correct.
I'm gonna have an apartment in. Let's see.
I guess I'll have an apartment in the meat market.
[01:33:59] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:34:01] Speaker A: I'll have a shack in the Asphodel Meadows.
[01:34:06] Speaker B: Look that at. At these names.
[01:34:09] Speaker A: And I'll have a house in five Roses.
[01:34:12] Speaker B: Okay.
All right, you ready?
[01:34:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Let's roll the die.
Gotta shake it up, baby. Give me a soul. Bonded doula with SPF 24. 7.

[01:34:37] Speaker B: Yep.

[01:34:40] Speaker B: Six.
[01:34:42] Speaker A: Okay. Okay, so, yeah, we'll play music over this. Let's say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, O.
I don't know, like, how this is working for you.
Uhoh.
Oh, shoot.
You're messing with my future, Jillian.
[01:35:08] Speaker B: I didn't do that. Okay, so I'll just do it really quickly. Okay.
[01:35:12] Speaker A: It's messed up. This is. I do not Trust the results.
[01:35:16] Speaker B: Stop it.
[01:35:23] Speaker A: Okay. All right.
[01:35:24] Speaker B: Here we go.
[01:35:25] Speaker A: This is not my life. This is not my future. No.
[01:35:28] Speaker B: Which one do you want to do?
Who do you want to do first?
[01:35:32] Speaker A: I'll do yours first.
[01:35:33] Speaker B: Okay. I do mine.
[01:35:34] Speaker A: Okay.
So you are going to have a castle in Moonwood. You'll be married to the rock.
You will your bond. You will be bonded through dream sharing.
You will have a. You will have Mother Goose as your pet.
[01:35:50] Speaker B: Yes.

[01:35:55] Speaker B: Pets.
[01:35:55] Speaker A: Okay, 17 pets. Your power will be changing eye color. And your job will be otter postman.
[01:36:02] Speaker B: I love that.
Now you're gonna die with your.
[01:36:06] Speaker A: Because you wrecked my future.
[01:36:09] Speaker B: No, I only wrecked.
[01:36:10] Speaker A: These results are not to be irritated.
[01:36:13] Speaker B: I only erect the like the place where you live. Just. Cuz I forgot to include that in the count.
It's fine. It's fine.
It's fine. I did. I did fine. Okay, so here's the thing. Here's what's going on. You work as a manicurist.
[01:36:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:36:28] Speaker B: Okay. You live in a shack in the Asphodel.
[01:36:31] Speaker A: We're making a matter.
It's Europe. It's better.
[01:36:35] Speaker B: Uhhuh. It is. And you know what? You know why you live in that shape? Cuz you have the most amount of money that anyone can have, except you have to pay in quarters. Okay. You have 101. Hopefully Dalmatians.
[01:36:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:36:48] Speaker B: So you have 101 pets.
And you have. Oh, you have birdies. You have 101 birdies.
[01:36:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:36:54] Speaker B: 101.
[01:36:54] Speaker A: I'm living.
[01:36:55] Speaker B: I know, but here's what's going on. You are cursed to crave Professor Dillon.
[01:37:02] Speaker A: No, no, not that goat.
What's going on?
[01:37:10] Speaker B: I loved him.
She loved him.
[01:37:14] Speaker A: Okay? Me and Professor Dillon will just be friends. I'll see him every now and again.
[01:37:19] Speaker B: That works.
[01:37:20] Speaker A: That works.
[01:37:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:37:21] Speaker A: Meanwhile, I'm just gonna live with birdie in our shack.
101 birdies in our shack. Having all this money and doing something else on side. Nobody has to know.
[01:37:30] Speaker B: Perfect.
[01:37:30] Speaker A: That's the. It's giving the millionaire next door.
[01:37:34] Speaker B: Oh, totally.
[01:37:34] Speaker A: I love it.
[01:37:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:37:37] Speaker A: I love that future for us.
[01:37:38] Speaker B: Yeah. That's a good.
[01:37:39] Speaker A: That feels bright.
[01:37:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:37:40] Speaker A: You know, one time, one day we're gonna have to do this for you, Christian. Yeah. We're gonna have to tell how the fates decide.
[01:37:46] Speaker B: All right. Oh my.
[01:37:47] Speaker A: He's down for it.
She's down for it.
[01:37:50] Speaker B: I'm gonna pick some wacky categories.
[01:37:52] Speaker A: Yeah. Have to. I'm gonna be better prepared for that next time, huh?
[01:37:56] Speaker B: I know.
Yeah, I know.
[01:37:59] Speaker A: If that's everything.
[01:38:01] Speaker B: I think it is.

[01:38:32] Speaker A: The second one. Let me pull it up.
[01:38:34] Speaker B: Circuit City.
[01:38:34] Speaker A: We got Circuit City. The next one is going to be House of Sky and Breath.
