[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
Welcome to Spellbound. I'm Deidre.
[00:00:07] Speaker B: And I'm Jillian.
[00:00:09] Speaker A: And this is a podcast where we serve up a healthy dose of romance, Romanasy pop culture, and just a little millennial melee for good measure.
[00:00:16] Speaker B: Yeah. How are you?
I'm good. I'm good for, you know, July 2026. I'm pretty good.
[00:00:23] Speaker A: 250 years of America looks good on you.
We're not thinking about any of the bad stuff. We're focusing on the future. 250, baby. 250 if we make it to 251.
[00:00:38] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's going to be a different world.
[00:00:40] Speaker A: I can't. I can't. I can't speak for me. I don't know if I'm gonna get
[00:00:43] Speaker B: there, but things are looking, by the way, good 90s show. A different world. Wasn't that. What, a 90s show?
[00:00:49] Speaker A: Yeah, that was a good 90s show. Yeah, yeah, that was in the first 250 years.
[00:00:54] Speaker B: That was.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:00:55] Speaker B: But we're. We're, like, resetting.
[00:00:58] Speaker A: Yeah, sure.
[00:00:59] Speaker B: 50 years. We're gonna reset.
[00:01:00] Speaker A: It's a vibe. A vibe change.
[00:01:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:02] Speaker A: Okay. A vibe reset.
[00:01:03] Speaker B: It was Mercury. Mercury was in retrograde on the 20th of June 29th.
[00:01:08] Speaker A: Oh, on your birthday?
[00:01:09] Speaker B: No, on the day after my birthday.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Because yours. The 28th. Yes, yes.
[00:01:13] Speaker B: Thank God.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I don't know.
[00:01:15] Speaker B: I was like, oh, what are you gonna do?
[00:01:19] Speaker A: You can't turn 40 during the retrograde.
[00:01:21] Speaker B: Shut that. I'm not 40.
I.
40.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: You are not 40. I can't confirm.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: I can confirm 40. Yeah.
What was I gonna say? So what's been going on with you?
[00:01:35] Speaker A: Well, you know, I turned another year older. Still not 40.
[00:01:38] Speaker B: Still not, but close.
[00:01:39] Speaker A: Closer to the edge.
Had a great birthday.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: Good.
[00:01:44] Speaker A: Yeah, it was great. You know, we gathered a few friends around, had some chips and guac.
[00:01:50] Speaker B: Great. Plenty of chips and guac. Yep. Yep.
[00:01:53] Speaker A: Tacos and burritos abound.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: Y.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: You enjoyed a nice taco salad.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: I.
I loved the taco salad. That was great. I love pepitas. Absolutely right.
[00:02:02] Speaker A: Absolutely.
And in the theme of this podcast, the sweetest Two little bookmarks. Handmade by two artisans, youthful artisans who are just in their apprenticeship in basically dot art.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:02:19] Speaker A: And I love it.
[00:02:19] Speaker B: The diamond art. They're two little elves.
[00:02:22] Speaker A: I know. They work so hard. It's been. I. If there's anything keeping me afloat this week, it hits those little bookmarks. Yes. So I'm really excited about that. It was a really good birthday, and unfortunately, I feel like it was a little bit overshadowed by Taylor Swift's wedding.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: It was. It was a rough. It was rough to read that. And you know what? When you click on one article about it, like, every single day, every single time you open up the news app, you're getting something about Taylor Swift's wedding.
[00:02:53] Speaker A: To this day, some say you're still
[00:02:56] Speaker B: hearing about it seriously, to this day. And it's like, oh, my God, I can't do it. Yeah.
[00:03:02] Speaker A: I'm not. I'm just not a big fan.
And I don't get it. I just don't see the vision.
But we could talk about that a little bit more in the. Hear ye, hear ye. I'm sorry. I jumped ahead. Oh, right, right.
[00:03:12] Speaker B: Well, should we go to.
[00:03:13] Speaker A: Well, no, because we.
[00:03:15] Speaker B: We.
[00:03:15] Speaker A: You deserve to be celebrated. Jillian, what's going on in your life?
[00:03:18] Speaker B: Right. Well, I'm not 40. I turned not 40, but I had a birthday, and I have.
My little N was born on my birthday, which is great.
[00:03:30] Speaker A: Celebrate her.
[00:03:31] Speaker B: Very exciting. I mean, I guess I have to share my birthday now, which we know.
[00:03:34] Speaker A: But, you know, this is the best person you could share it with.
[00:03:36] Speaker B: This is the best.
[00:03:37] Speaker A: I could think of a lot worse people that you could share with.
[00:03:39] Speaker B: Oh, for sure. Yeah. Very excited.
And.
Yeah, that's about it.
[00:03:46] Speaker A: Just having a birthday. Just living your life.
[00:03:48] Speaker B: Just living my life, you know, just
[00:03:50] Speaker A: enjoying a Chicago summer.
[00:03:51] Speaker B: Yes. Yes. It's been great.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:03:54] Speaker B: Yeah. We should go.
[00:03:55] Speaker A: Are you.
[00:03:55] Speaker B: Are we gonna go to that movie next week, by the way?
[00:03:59] Speaker A: I haven't heard too much more of it, so. Okay. This is Clark's notice that we will be reaching out about it.
[00:04:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: But, yeah, you know, life's been good.
You know, just working and living, living
[00:04:09] Speaker B: and working, living and working. But not. Not working to live. Yes. No, we are. We are only working to live.
[00:04:16] Speaker A: Yeah, pretty much at this point, I'm like, just, let's do it.
[00:04:19] Speaker B: Let's just do it. Let's get it done.
Yeah.
[00:04:22] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:04:23] Speaker B: So should we get into Hear ye, hear ye?
[00:04:27] Speaker A: Yes. Let's bring it around. Let's bring it back around.
Absolutely. Do that. Every. Every episode, just a new melody.
Yeah. The Taylor Swift wedding is bumming me out.
[00:04:40] Speaker B: I mean, the whole thing. There's not one thing that I'm like, oh, that was a good choice.
[00:04:45] Speaker A: I'm just shocked at the tackiness of all of it, to be honest. I'm a little bit like, I would have expected, like, what I would appreciate and I think what I would respect a lot more is a celebrity of her Caliber. Yeah. Like absolute. Doing something that was super intimate, super quiet, super, you know, and, and you could probably do a larger wedding. Even if you get enough people to sign NDAs, they all just kind of, you know, figure it out.
This felt like the equivalent of like a monster truck rally.
[00:05:16] Speaker B: It did. It really did. Yeah. And you know what I was thinking? I was like. And I hate to say it, but I feel like even Jeff Bezos wedding was like more. Was like less tacky than this.
[00:05:25] Speaker A: 100%.
[00:05:26] Speaker B: That was at least in Italy.
[00:05:28] Speaker A: 100%, you know. Ye.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: I mean, they, you know, took over the whole city, which is a problem. But like not, not several streets down in downtown Manhattan over fourth of July weekend.
[00:05:39] Speaker A: No. And then they've got these billboards that say find Mary finally or something, whatever, with their TNT in the end, at the end of it. And people are thinking it's AT&T AD.
[00:05:49] Speaker B: Oh, right.
[00:05:50] Speaker A: Great. For AT&T. Their marketing team is like, put pencils down. We're not spending another fucking dime the rest of the year.
[00:05:57] Speaker B: Yeah, we don't have to work.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: No. 100%. But I, you know, again, I would rather, I'd probably gotten more excited to go see a truck rally down at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina. For sure.
[00:06:07] Speaker B: For sure. And more quality people there honestly
[00:06:12] Speaker A: can confirm real solo. The earth people there.
[00:06:16] Speaker B: I mean, I also read somewhere that like inside, basically they had like life size, like posters of every.
Of a picture of them at every age.
And I was like, that's giving Kendall Roy's birthday party.
Like that is a very tacky.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Oh God, I just can't believe it. Like at first I was like, is this just like a smoke and mirrors thing? Like the rumors that they're like shutting down all of this so that it'll be a big distraction, right. While they actually have like a very, like classy, like very nice, cool, modern sort of wedding where we'll get the pictures in maybe a month in Vogue or something. Like, I don't know. But now this is about to be a Disney plus special, the likes of which is like Hamilton if.
[00:07:03] Speaker B: I know, I know. It's like everybody's gonna watch it, but they're not really gonna want to watch it.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: No, but she's gonna make the real thing. She's gonna like make her wedding what she paid for a wedding back in more.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: It's insane.
[00:07:14] Speaker A: From the proceeds she had, if you
[00:07:17] Speaker B: have a billion dollars, do not hold a monster truck rally as your, as your wedding. I mean, it's insane.
[00:07:24] Speaker A: No, I would be somewhere. You. You wouldn't even know that we got married.
[00:07:28] Speaker B: No, it's like Zendaya.
[00:07:30] Speaker A: God bless. Now, listen, you want to pivot over to another topic?
[00:07:34] Speaker B: Love her.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: We're putting away the trash. We're stepping into the class. Okay.
Zendaya has had a generational run on this Odyssey film junket that's going on right now. Her looks are spectacular. There was another one today where I was like, can you please get off my neck?
[00:07:55] Speaker B: I'm trying to live. I love it.
[00:07:58] Speaker A: It's not fair. While I'm slaving away in corporate America, she's just over in, looking like a goddess. God.
[00:08:04] Speaker B: Not even trying. Really. Not even trying.
[00:08:06] Speaker A: Not even trying. And you know who's like, there in the wings because he's also in the film. Her man.
[00:08:11] Speaker B: Yeah, he. Tom Hillens in the film. Oh, my God, I love the two of them together. I love it.
[00:08:17] Speaker A: God bless.
[00:08:18] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:08:19] Speaker A: They're my faves.
[00:08:20] Speaker B: I mean. Oh, God, she's the best.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: I mean, she's stunning.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: I'm, I'm rooting for her. The same energy people want to give Taylor Swift. Let's give that to Zendaya.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: For sure. Oh, for sure. Yeah. Because she's also, like, she's not tacky.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: Like Taylor Swift is tacky. No, no. Taylor Swift is irritating me because we're about the same age and she's acting like this. What's going on?
[00:08:44] Speaker B: She's about to have a baby. Several babies.
[00:08:47] Speaker A: Okay.
Jillian?
[00:08:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:50] Speaker A: As soon as that happens, I promise you, you probably won't be able to reach me by plane, train, or automobile. I won't be reachable.
[00:08:58] Speaker B: Anything besides carrier pigeons.
[00:08:59] Speaker A: No. And even then.
[00:09:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:02] Speaker A: It's gonna take probably 48 business days to get a response because I'm just gonna be like, I don't wanna be involved.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I don't want to open up the Internet. Yeah.
[00:09:10] Speaker A: There's a couple of child free, like, accounts and whatever that I follow. And it wasn't too long ago that these creators were talking about how they're a little bit like they're curious and also they kind of grieve whenever there's going to be this pivot from like this, like, powerful, single, like, child free, maybe not by choice kind of woman who then pivots over to, I'm married and I'm having babies. Now, like, obviously the, the, the issue is not having children. Sure, do that.
[00:09:49] Speaker B: Right.
[00:09:49] Speaker A: But like, to completely abandon yourself in the pursuit of being a wife and a mother, that's kind of going to be the tragedy here. I don't really care for her art, obviously, as I've made clear, but I'm a little bit like, I would hate to see the. The. The icon, you know, has been created around her to completely just fall apart because now she's this billionaire trad wife.
[00:10:14] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, it, like, it really.
I. I don't care about her. I care about her influence on people and influence, particularly on young girls.
And I think that there's already so much now, like, so much narrative around, like, oh, yeah, you don't have to work if you choose not to. You just got to marry a man.
And like. And. And first of all, that's not true, because also, like, the message is wrong.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: Well, we've said on this podcast before, a man is not a plan.
[00:10:41] Speaker B: A man is not a plan. And also in this economy, you can't do it.
Like, you cannot do it.
[00:10:46] Speaker A: No.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: And. But, like, so that. That's. That's kind of what I'm concerned about.
I did realize. I didn't. I didn't realize that Miley Cyrus has been, like, vocal about being child free.
[00:10:59] Speaker A: Really?
[00:10:59] Speaker B: Yeah. I didn't know that she's like, until there. Until I know that they're going to be fish in the water if I have a kid, I'm not doing it.
[00:11:07] Speaker A: God bless. You know, I don't know if I mentioned it on this podcast before, but that is somebody who's done a complete 180 for me.
[00:11:13] Speaker B: 180.
[00:11:14] Speaker A: Because there was a time where I
[00:11:15] Speaker B: was like, I know.
[00:11:15] Speaker A: Turn that off.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: I know. Love her, though.
[00:11:17] Speaker A: Love her.
[00:11:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: Big fan. Big Miley fan over here.
[00:11:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. We know. Clark is, too.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: Yes. And she's standing in her power and, like, she's kind of found her authentic voice, and I'm here for that. Yeah.
[00:11:28] Speaker B: And I also feel like she's not kind of not been around in a while, and she's just kind of been like, whatever, I don't care.
[00:11:34] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, just kind of just going underground.
[00:11:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:36] Speaker A: The one celebrity wedding this year that I have really enjoyed is Dua Lipa's. Oh.
[00:11:41] Speaker B: I didn't see any pictures from them.
[00:11:42] Speaker A: Oh, sister, when we get off of here, you have to look. I mean, she is stunning.
[00:11:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:47] Speaker A: Her husband is also a sweetheart. They really just, I think, love each other. It's. It's very.
It was very classy.
[00:11:56] Speaker B: Oh, nice.
[00:11:57] Speaker A: Very nice.
[00:11:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:58] Speaker A: Very beautiful. Not a monster truck rally.
[00:12:01] Speaker B: Yeah. I love her. I love Dooley.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: And they connected over books.
Oh, let's See, I read somewhere that their story was that, like, they had met one time and, like, the sparks just weren't there. I mean, it was nice. It was like, cool. You know, he's like, nice and whatever. Yeah. And then a couple years later, they ran into each other and they just so happen to be reading the same book at that moment, like, I think. And maybe we're even around the same part in the book.
[00:12:27] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:12:28] Speaker A: And so kind of saw that as, like a sign. But then, like, from there, it just kind of, like, evolved their. Their relationship and their union. And so they book over. They. Or they bond over their love of reading.
[00:12:38] Speaker B: Love that.
[00:12:39] Speaker A: Yeah, we love Illiterate Man.
[00:12:41] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, I will like that. That Zendaya and Robert Pattinson movie. So I'm always a little bit, like, skeptical.
[00:12:49] Speaker A: I have completely forgotten about that film by now.
[00:12:52] Speaker B: You know what I was thinking about the other day, and I was like, I don't want to think about this. That movie with Alexander Skarsgrd and.
[00:13:01] Speaker A: Oh, I know.
[00:13:02] Speaker B: I mean, it's. It's a little bit, like, scarred me.
[00:13:04] Speaker A: It did scar you. You were. You were shell shocked when we left that Alamo Theater.
What were you saying? You're a little bit.
[00:13:12] Speaker B: Well, you know, in the movie with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
[00:13:17] Speaker A: The drama.
[00:13:18] Speaker B: Yes, the drama. Basically, it starts with her. She's reading a book, and then he.
There's something. He, like, maybe looks up. Like what?
[00:13:26] Speaker A: Yes, he's not reading. Yeah.
[00:13:28] Speaker B: And I mean, that's like a whole trope now is like, you know, or jokes online about, like, men, like, they don't actually read, but they're reading the summary. And there was something recently I read.
I saw about that, too.
Shit, I can't remember, but it was another sort of like she was reading something and then he, like, looked really looked up, like, what the book was about.
[00:13:52] Speaker A: No.
[00:13:54] Speaker B: Yeah. So I'm a little skeptical.
[00:13:56] Speaker A: You know, I don't want to lose hope on it, because we do know. And I mean, obviously, you know, he's not playing around with women, but Mikey. To talk to Mikey is to, like, for him to tell you what's in these fucking books.
[00:14:08] Speaker B: For sure.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: He's not fucking around.
[00:14:09] Speaker B: He's not around. Yep.
[00:14:11] Speaker A: My man is not reading the Cliff's Notes. He is in there reading it. So I need men to kind of like, come with that energy with a book.
[00:14:19] Speaker B: For sure. For sure. To be like, straight men.
[00:14:21] Speaker A: I should say straight.
[00:14:22] Speaker B: Yes, yes. To. To like, you know, that he's read the actual book. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I know.
[00:14:29] Speaker A: I need a man who reads.
[00:14:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:33] Speaker A: I'm sorry. I just do.
I need you to have, like, a rich inner world.
[00:14:37] Speaker B: For sure. For sure. Yeah. And like, to be curious about things.
[00:14:41] Speaker A: Yeah. And to, like, be impacted by a book.
[00:14:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:46] Speaker A: Like, to walk away from it. Impacted and, like, changed a little bit.
[00:14:49] Speaker B: Right.
[00:14:49] Speaker A: And to, like, think about that book and those characters for years to come.
[00:14:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:53] Speaker A: I'll tell you what. I still think about Flowers for Algernon.
[00:14:56] Speaker B: Me, too.
[00:14:57] Speaker A: I know I'm impacted. I'm talking about. I was moved by that book in eighth grade, and I still think about it.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
I mean, yeah, there are definitely, like, books that I still think about.
Yeah. All the time.
But, you know, they don't know that not. Not many of them read.
[00:15:15] Speaker A: I know.
[00:15:16] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, I bet. Reads. Ryan Hamilton.
[00:15:19] Speaker A: He definitely reads.
[00:15:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Good for him. He's got a great comedy special out right now. And I think one of the only ways that you can be that kind of observationally funny is if you read and you actually have, like, empathy and connection to other people.
[00:15:34] Speaker B: Yep. In the human experience. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Nate Barazi does not read.
[00:15:40] Speaker A: Can't tell you the last time he picked up a book. Probably Goodbye Moon, and that was for himself, not his children.
That's probably it.
[00:15:49] Speaker B: Probably. Yeah.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: And that's. And that's that on that.
[00:15:52] Speaker B: That's that. Well, anything else?
[00:15:54] Speaker A: No, I feel like I don't really have any other updates besides that, but I am excited to see the Odyssey.
[00:16:00] Speaker B: Me, too. When does that come out?
[00:16:01] Speaker A: Everybody's in there.
[00:16:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:02] Speaker A: I. Lupita also is looking like a goddess. Cannot wait for her.
[00:16:07] Speaker B: Okay. I haven't seen her in the junket. Okay.
[00:16:09] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, she's looking great.
There were people in the comments being like, I would launch a thousand ships for her.
[00:16:16] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. No, I mean, seriously. Yeah, yeah.
[00:16:19] Speaker A: Like, I'm. This is. This is our Helen of Troy. Thank you. I'm not even. I'm not gonna explain further. Yeah, Yeah. I think that's it for me.
[00:16:30] Speaker B: Well, should we get into the first part of the second book?
[00:16:33] Speaker A: Yeah, let's do it.
Say less.
This week, we're continuing our read of. Or we're starting our read, actually, of A Court of Mist and Fury, the second installment in the iconic A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas.
We'll be breaking it down book by book, piece by piece. So whether you've read the series 10 times or have no clue what the hell is going on, there's something for
[00:16:57] Speaker B: you, there is something. For you, there's gonna be something. I don't know what, but there's gonna be something.
[00:17:02] Speaker A: A little goodie bag that you can take with you.
[00:17:05] Speaker B: Little treat.
[00:17:06] Speaker A: Yes.
But I do need a little bit of a reminder.
A refresher. Yeah.
[00:17:14] Speaker B: So our last EP was about the end of Acotar, so. Court of Thorns and Roses, where our dear Feyre went under the mountain to save her man, Tam.
Um. And Tamlin didn't give her the time of day.
[00:17:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:17:33] Speaker B: And she was very confused, but she was like, you know what? I'm gonna do these three trials. Amarantha was, like the. The villain, you know? And she's, like, kind of giving, like.
Like, I don't know. I guess not like cruel Deville, but, like, what would you say she's giving?
[00:17:50] Speaker A: I don't know. I mean, Amarantha, I mean, she's one of a kind.
[00:17:55] Speaker B: She's one of kind. So she's like, kind of this cruel woman who is in love with Tamlin and basically, like, doesn't believe that Feyre is in love with him.
So she goes through these three trials.
[00:18:07] Speaker A: She.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: You know, a worm chases her.
[00:18:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:11] Speaker B: Second one, she can't read. And so Lucian saves her.
[00:18:15] Speaker A: Yes or no?
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Rhysand saves her.
[00:18:16] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:18:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:17] Speaker A: Before she and Lucian are.
[00:18:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Impaled.
[00:18:20] Speaker A: Yeah. Yes.
[00:18:22] Speaker B: And so then. Anyway, so then she's dying. She's in. I can't remember if it was after the second, maybe the third trial. There was like a. Oh, worm bone or some bone stuck in her arm, and so.
Some bone.
[00:18:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:36] Speaker B: So she's sitting in jail, and Rhysand comes and is like a girl. You're dying.
[00:18:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Hate to tell you.
[00:18:42] Speaker B: Yeah. She. He's like.
And then he, like, does this very weird thing. He's, like, a little bit violent, and so. But. But anyway, so then he saves her, and he's like, okay, you're gonna be. I'm gonna, like, brand you with my tattoo. Didn't love it.
[00:18:57] Speaker A: Yeah. No.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: And then you're gonna have to see me once a month.
[00:19:02] Speaker A: They negotiated down.
[00:19:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:04] Speaker A: Once a. Once a week.
[00:19:06] Speaker B: A week Per month. Yeah. From. I think he'd started with, like, at least two or three.
[00:19:10] Speaker A: And he's like, till the end of eternity, which, for us, who knows?
[00:19:13] Speaker B: For us. But then. Then our girl turns into a fairy.
So basically, she goes to the third trial.
Amarantha's like, you got to kill these three people.
And she does. She kills two of us.
[00:19:27] Speaker A: Begrudgingly.
[00:19:28] Speaker B: Begrudgingly. Yeah.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: Meanwhile, her man's just Sitting there, watching the Habit.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: Her man is like. I guess. Yeah. I mean, I like. And she's like, is he still gonna love me?
[00:19:38] Speaker A: I can't.
[00:19:39] Speaker B: I know. So then turns out the third person is her man.
[00:19:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:43] Speaker B: And. But then she remembers that his heart is stone.
[00:19:48] Speaker A: She's like. It all makes sense now.
[00:19:51] Speaker B: She takes her dab dagger, stabs him with it.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: And then picture, like, taking a knife and, like, poking at the avocado seed.
[00:19:59] Speaker B: I know. Like, oh, my God. What?
What is that? There's some, like. Maybe it's C.S. lewis. There was some, like, where he, like, put the sword in a rock.
[00:20:12] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:20:12] Speaker B: And that's what I think of. Okay, so now.
[00:20:15] Speaker A: Okay, that's some reading for you.
Love that.
[00:20:19] Speaker B: But let's see. So anyway, so then Rhysand saves her.
[00:20:23] Speaker A: Was that. That did not happen in the line. The Witch in the Wardrobe. Did it?
[00:20:27] Speaker B: Did it? Yeah, I think so.
[00:20:28] Speaker A: Really?
[00:20:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:29] Speaker A: I just remember Turkish Delight for my reading of the Witch of the Wardrobe. We did so many projects on that. On that.
[00:20:37] Speaker B: Did you?
[00:20:37] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: I don't think we have actually ever read it in school.
Yeah.
Anyway, so, okay, so Rhysand saves her and then turns her into, like, an immortal.
And then her fingers grow a little bit, and she, like, whatever, she changes. And then Amarantha dies, and Tamlin, like, slams her into the wall really hard.
And then.
And then, basically, she is going back with Tamlin to the Spring Court, and he's gonna have to see Rhysand for one week a month. For the rest of her life.
[00:21:18] Speaker A: Yeah. Now, also, when they leave.
[00:21:20] Speaker B: When they leave, he gets a little bit. You're like, oh, there's a moment where he's.
Yeah. When he stumbles backward, which is not Rhysand.
[00:21:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:30] Speaker B: And our man's composed. She's very composed. And then. But something happened. Yeah, we don't know yet.
[00:21:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:37] Speaker A: But we are intrigued.
[00:21:38] Speaker B: We're intrigued for sure. Yeah.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: All right. Well, God bless everyone involved in that book. What a journey.
[00:21:45] Speaker B: The under the Mountain was really a journey.
[00:21:47] Speaker A: It was stressful.
[00:21:48] Speaker B: Yeah. It was very stressful. Yep.
[00:21:50] Speaker A: Okay, so in this week's episode, the scene opens and we're back at our beloved Spring Court. Spring Court.
Back at the unfortunate plantation house.
[00:22:02] Speaker B: Huh? She's got her head in the toilet bowl.
[00:22:04] Speaker A: Yes.
Let me tell you something. When I first read this book, I said, I'll be damned if this girl is pregnant. I'll scream.
[00:22:12] Speaker B: I did think of that, too. I think I thought.
[00:22:14] Speaker A: I was like, don't do this to me.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:16] Speaker A: Anyway, it's been three Months since they escaped under the mountain.
[00:22:21] Speaker B: Right.
[00:22:21] Speaker A: And our girl Feyre is experiencing a series. She's got ptsd.
[00:22:26] Speaker B: Ptsd, yeah.
[00:22:27] Speaker A: So.
And Tamlin, for his part, does too. But the two of them, as has been evidenced throughout the first book, have a host of communication issues, and they're not talking about it with each other, and they really don't even want to acknowledge it within themselves. And so a lot of weird shit, night sweats, throwing up, just, you know, insomnia. It's a bad scene.
What we've found that since the events of the last book is that our girl Feyre is basically bound to the house with nothing to do. She's not really granted any freedom. I mean, she's less free than she was the first book. She can't, like, basically, you know, go riding around.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: Yeah, she.
[00:23:08] Speaker A: She don't want. She don't want to paint like that just has too many negative connotations. She doesn't feel like doing that.
And I, you know, I hated the fact that she was back in those frilly dresses.
[00:23:17] Speaker B: I fucking hated the dresses. And here's what I. What I wrote.
So she said, I hated the dresses, but wouldn't tell him because he looked so happy.
Fuck that.
[00:23:29] Speaker A: No, no. She's like, I don't want to wear my tunic because that would signal to the people that we're not in peacetime,
[00:23:35] Speaker B: that we're at war or something. And it's like, girl, you are at war.
[00:23:39] Speaker A: Look within Jesus Christ.
And you know. Another person that I'm kind of disappointed in all of this as well is Lucian. Lucian's just falling into line.
You know, Lucian, we love Lucian. Lucian is sort of the right hand man to Tamlin, but he's witty. He's kind of got a mind of his own also. I think, like a very empathetic and cool person just brought out because of the hardship that he's experienced. He's had heartbreak, his family's kind of disowned him. So, yeah, you know, through that, he's kind of had to develop a personality and, like, empathy.
[00:24:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:24:10] Speaker A: But now that they're, you know, post under the Mountain, he's kind of really kind of feeling his role as the. The, you know, emissary. Yeah.
[00:24:18] Speaker B: That is. Yeah.
[00:24:19] Speaker A: To the. To the Spring High Lord, whatever his name is. I want to say king, but the High Lord for the Spring Court, and. And he knows that Feyre's in pain, and he's just kind of like, girl, just, you know, just get through it like the rest of us.
[00:24:36] Speaker B: He's like, just like, go and accept your role as tradwife. Basically.
He's like, it's, you know, basically, Tamlin is tortured. And so, you know, you don't want to make him more upset by going and going into town and getting some, you know, couple of things at boutiques.
[00:24:54] Speaker A: Absolutely. Absolutely. And she's like, what the fuck? What am I supposed to do?
[00:24:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:59] Speaker A: What's really funny in this.
In the beginning of this book is that she's like.
She makes this observation about Tamlin hopping on a horse, and she's like, would you be faster?
[00:25:12] Speaker B: She's like, what the fuck is going on here?
[00:25:14] Speaker A: She goes, why are you getting on that thing? Just get in your lion form and bound to town. What's going on?
I died laughing because I was like, yeah, girl, Great point.
[00:25:24] Speaker B: Makes sense.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: It reminds me of this meme from the cartoon show Arthur, which I was. I was a little bit too old by the time Arthur came around to watch it as a kid.
[00:25:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:35] Speaker A: But I do. There's been many memes in my adulthood that have come from the Arthur show, and I saw one recently where, you know, all the characters in Arthur, including Arthur, are animals. He's an aardvark, his best friend. He's a bunny. Like, it goes on and on.
[00:25:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:48] Speaker A: And there's an episode where they're in school and they're. It's like show and tell day or something. And they're sitting around. Now, mind you, again, all the characters are animals.
[00:25:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:25:57] Speaker A: They're. This man from the zoo comes in.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: Jesus.
[00:26:00] Speaker A: And he's like, in the zoo.
[00:26:01] Speaker B: Get up. No.
[00:26:02] Speaker A: And on his arm is a koala. And he's like, showing the koala bear to these people. And somebody took that. Took that frame from the episode and was like, the koala is looking at them, like, ain't y animals too?
And when I.
I mean, like, quite literally, I love that the quality's like,
[00:26:32] Speaker B: Jesus.
[00:26:33] Speaker A: And that's what that made me think of, was they were being like, are the horses not like my man?
Get off of here. Do your own thing.
[00:26:40] Speaker B: Seriously. Yeah. Can you imagine that? That's ridiculous.
[00:26:44] Speaker A: Yes. Oh, my God. It's the craziest thing.
[00:26:46] Speaker B: Funny.
[00:26:47] Speaker A: So we're dealing with that.
Meanwhile, we should know that congratulations are in order because Feyre and our man Tamlin have gotten engaged.
We missed that whole moment. Right. She kind of brushes over it.
[00:27:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:04] Speaker A: They had an engagement that they made wild love. And the wildflowers somewhere on the property. We don't care.
[00:27:09] Speaker B: Emerald ring. Yep, yep.
[00:27:10] Speaker A: We don't care.
[00:27:11] Speaker B: We don't give a fuck. Yeah.
[00:27:12] Speaker A: Helping her to design this wedding, though, is a new character that we have not been introduced to. And also, it's so great to read these books back over again because I was like, where the does she come from? Yeah. Is a new character named Ianth?
[00:27:24] Speaker B: I am. I would say. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:27:26] Speaker A: And she is a high priestess whose family has kind of been on the lam.
They were in danger of getting trapped under the mountain. But before it happened, her father sent Ianth, her younger sister, and her mother away to fairylands. Away, like, not over in Highburn. Little island. Right over in, like, the other fairylands that we've not.
[00:27:51] Speaker B: Right.
[00:27:51] Speaker A: We've not heard anybody from before.
[00:27:53] Speaker B: Well, didn't the father go with or.
[00:27:55] Speaker A: No, I don't know if the father went with. I don't know.
[00:27:57] Speaker B: But they definitely, like, abandoned ship.
[00:27:59] Speaker A: They abandoned ship, yeah. And people are mad at. I am about that. I'm a little bit like, are we mad at that? Is she. Was she a child? How did she make this?
[00:28:07] Speaker B: Right. That's true.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: Lucian is not feeling her. But anyway.
[00:28:11] Speaker B: Not feeling her.
[00:28:12] Speaker A: She's a high priest high priestess, which I'm a little bit like, how does she become a high priestess when she lives so far away from everybody else?
[00:28:18] Speaker B: Like, what do you mean?
[00:28:19] Speaker A: Like, how did she train to be a high priestess?
[00:28:21] Speaker B: I don't even know. What's the training? Is it like.
[00:28:25] Speaker A: Isn't that what our girls are doing in the future books?
[00:28:27] Speaker B: Oh, acolyte. Like, acolytes or. Oh, what do you mean? Which girls?
[00:28:32] Speaker A: Like, when and all them.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: Oh, no, that's like librarian. Librarian, right.
[00:28:40] Speaker A: I don't know. I need to keep reading the book.
[00:28:42] Speaker B: I mean, the high priestess, I remember being like. Like, she explained to the costume or whatever that she was wearing, and I was like, not.
Who's the red. The redheaded woman from Sister Act. The Sister Act. Yeah.
[00:28:55] Speaker A: It's giving a little bit of that. Yeah.
It's also giving, like, the.
Some of the characters in Dune. Oh, I'm seeing that a little bit too.
[00:29:04] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:29:05] Speaker A: Especially some of the writing on, like, their forehead and all that stuff.
[00:29:08] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Okay.
[00:29:10] Speaker A: But, yeah, I'm just very curious. So anyway, Ianth has come from abroad to basically be the High Priestess of the Spring Court.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: Right.
[00:29:19] Speaker A: Which I guess every court has a high priestess. It sounds like there's a temple on the grounds that Ianthe is renovating.
But anyway, she's taken it upon herself to plan the wedding of Tamlin and Feyre because Feyre is really not feeling it. She's like, this really is in my bag.
And Ianth, you know, at first you're kind of a little bit like, who is this? But you quickly are like, can't be trusted.
[00:29:43] Speaker B: Something's not adding up. And you know what? You know, one thing I would not volunteer to do? Plan a wedding.
[00:29:49] Speaker A: Absolutely not.
[00:29:50] Speaker B: I would fucking hate it.
[00:29:50] Speaker A: That's the last thing that you could catch me doing. She's a power player. She's wanting power by any means necessary.
I think it's interesting. So essentially, she's a nun, but a nun that can fuck.
[00:30:02] Speaker B: Yeah. A nun that can fuck. And the nun that does fuck and wants. Wants Lucian, I think. And Lucian's like, no, I don't think so.
[00:30:09] Speaker A: And I think really wants anybody who will take her, to be honest, that she can, like, you know, pro. Create with.
Because children of the high priestesses have a high standing in society. But if it's between a high priestess and a high lord, then, like, they're really doing something.
[00:30:25] Speaker B: Okay. Okay.
[00:30:26] Speaker A: So I think she just wants power wherever it comes.
[00:30:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, I guess so.
[00:30:30] Speaker A: But she'll sleep with anybody in the meantime.
Hate to see it.
And it just feels like she's not here. Feyre. Feyre is in dire need of a girlfriend.
Yeah. And she doesn't quite know what real friendship and intimacy feels like.
[00:30:45] Speaker B: No.
[00:30:46] Speaker A: And so she's just, like, so thankful for. I am.
[00:30:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Right.
[00:30:51] Speaker A: But not really understanding. Yeah. That she's being misled.
[00:30:55] Speaker B: Yeah. She doesn't. I mean, there's a little something. I was like, okay. Tamlin and Ianth were, like, besties growing up. And I was like, okay, there's something going on there.
And she made the comment of, like, Ianth would be a much better match for.
[00:31:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:11] Speaker B: For Tamlin. Although it's giving cousins.
[00:31:13] Speaker A: Honestly, it is giving cousins. It also was a little bit triggering to me. I don't know if you've ever had this situation, but, like, I remember, like, in college, in my early 20s, I. You know, like, I would see guys and then he'd have, like, a friend that was a girl, and then that, you know, they've kind of explained it away by being like, that's my sister. That's my sister. Oh, that's my sis. We're just whatever, 100, you know. Then months later, once you're out of the picture, you're getting word that they're, like, they're absolutely sleeping together.
[00:31:43] Speaker B: Ben.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: Sleeping together?
[00:31:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:46] Speaker A: I'd done a lot of work in therapy about this I know that.
But that's what it's giving. It's like, sure, yeah, I may have been born at night. I wasn't born last night. I'm not. This is, this is ridiculous. There's something else here. Give me a break.
[00:31:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:00] Speaker A: And so, yeah, we're keeping our eye on. I am. Because throughout this section of the book, and which, by the way, and we'll put this in sort of the description, it's like chapters one through the end of chapter four, essentially, that we read.
[00:32:10] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:32:11] Speaker A: But essentially, throughout this section, she's kind of just a guide, a social guide for Feyre, because Feyre's just falling apart at the seams through her ptsd. She can't get over having killed people.
[00:32:21] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:32:22] Speaker A: She still has this tattoo, by the way, on her left arm.
[00:32:25] Speaker B: Oh, for sure. Yeah. Rhysand. But he hasn't come calling.
[00:32:28] Speaker A: He hasn't come calling. She looks at the tattoo sometimes it looks like the, the pupils wide sometimes,
[00:32:32] Speaker B: though, like a little evil eye.
[00:32:34] Speaker A: I wouldn't, I, I, I, I don't like the surveillance date.
[00:32:37] Speaker B: Me neither. Me neither. I gotta be honest. Yep.
[00:32:40] Speaker A: I don't even like having my pet cam on at home. I can't, I can't even imagine having this on my wrist.
[00:32:45] Speaker B: I'm going to break into that. I mean. Yeah, yeah. Also, like, it's just weird because you're like, yeah. It's like, what's I doing? You know? It's like, is that I mad or is the.
[00:32:59] Speaker A: You just never know without a lot.
[00:33:00] Speaker B: Like. Jesus Christ.
Yeah. I mean, it's.
She's really, really struggling. She's struggling.
[00:33:11] Speaker A: She's really struggling. Her. She's hanging on by a thread. She's snapping at people.
I think it's interesting. Lucian eventually does take her into the town.
[00:33:20] Speaker B: The town. Yeah.
[00:33:21] Speaker A: Where she finds that these people are, like, so appreciative of her. She's Feyre, the.
Is it conqueror or the curse breaker?
[00:33:29] Speaker B: Maybe?
[00:33:29] Speaker A: The curse breaker. Yeah. They were the curse breaker.
[00:33:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:32] Speaker A: And they won't let her lift a finger. She's there to try help. She's there to do a little Habitat for Humanity. And they're like, sister, save it.
[00:33:39] Speaker B: She couldn't get in there. Like Princess Diana. Princess Diana get in there.
[00:33:43] Speaker A: No, she was just kind of like, being told what to do. She should have dismounted that horse and just gotten in there for sure.
[00:33:49] Speaker B: Wore like.
Yeah, yeah, exactly. And wore like a disguise or something.
But then she finds out about the tithe. Let's talk about that.
[00:33:58] Speaker A: We do. And also. Oh, how sad is it that these people have been, like, living and working under the mountain for, like, 50 years? I. It was good.
[00:34:04] Speaker B: Or they're in camps.
[00:34:05] Speaker A: Yeah, they were in exactly that. Like, all of these people in the town, because they're, like, lowly fairies, have been living in, like, war camps. Yeah, whatever. Going around in bands, like people, you know, it's just violent under there for 50 years. Horrible. And I. Again, that's another reason that I was glad we're rereading this, because I think we had a question the last episode of, like, where were all the people in the court? And it was like, right, right. Were they, like, where'd they go? But yeah, they were under the mountain.
[00:34:32] Speaker B: They were under the mountain. So anyway, in, like, tunnels. Yeah.
[00:34:35] Speaker A: Knock, knock. The IRS is calling.
[00:34:38] Speaker B: I mean, it's got to.
[00:34:39] Speaker A: It's tax season.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: It's basically. It's basically Cook county property taxes.
[00:34:45] Speaker B: Yeah. But if, like, if Brandon Johnson just hunted people down,
[00:34:52] Speaker A: who's to say he doesn't?
[00:34:54] Speaker B: To be completely honest, he's like, I need funding for my grooming.
[00:34:58] Speaker A: Absolutely. Absolutely. 75 grand. The budget's going up to 90 grand next year. You better guess it together.
So, yes, there she suddenly.
I'm sorry, I'm thinking about her, like, hearing about this whole tithing situation, being horrified.
[00:35:15] Speaker B: Like, what my husband is going to, like, yeah. Hunt people down.
[00:35:20] Speaker A: Yes. So there's tithing season. It happens twice a year in the spring court.
[00:35:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:28] Speaker A: So basically, folks have to pay their taxes essentially, to live in the spring court, to get, quote, unquote, protection from the high Lord. You know what I will say it's giving the mob.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: It's giving the mob. It absolutely is going. Giving the mob. But you know what I will say it's sliding scale. Like, I kind of like this tax system. It's like, pay what you can.
[00:35:49] Speaker A: It is a bit pay what you can, but it also seems like when people bring what they can, it's, like, not enough. Tamlin, like, turns them over and shakes their pockets loose. And it's like, I know there's more where that came from. Pay up.
[00:36:02] Speaker B: Give me your goats.
[00:36:04] Speaker A: Give them now. So essentially, people have to come pay. Pay for these, you know, city services provided by Tamlin, the high lord of the Supreme Court. And if they don't pay on the day of the tithing. Yeah, they have a grace period.
[00:36:17] Speaker B: They do.
[00:36:18] Speaker A: They have a grace period of what, Three days.
[00:36:19] Speaker B: Three days. Three days to get it together.
[00:36:21] Speaker A: To get it together. To go take out a payday loan.
[00:36:25] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:36:25] Speaker A: Figure it out.
[00:36:26] Speaker B: Yeah. Go to the currency exchange and they have.
[00:36:29] Speaker A: If they don't pay it, they will be tracked down by Tamlin himself.
[00:36:33] Speaker B: That is so crazy, by the way. I'm so crazy.
[00:36:36] Speaker A: That is a non starter.
You're a high lord, but like, also you have to like, moonlight as a bounty hunter. What is going on?
[00:36:43] Speaker B: That's fascism for sure.
Yeah, yeah.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: He should be too busy for that. If he's actually providing all the services the people of this good court need, he shouldn't have enough time to be chasing people down for their. Their nickels.
[00:36:57] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. Yeah, yeah. He's like an evil Santa Claus.
[00:37:01] Speaker A: Seriously. So favor's like something in the milk and clean. I am not down with this, mind you. These people have not been working.
[00:37:07] Speaker B: No, right, right. Where are they getting the money? That's my question. What is the. What's the financial. What's the economic situation there?
[00:37:15] Speaker A: I.
I don't know.
[00:37:17] Speaker B: I mean, it. It doesn't. It's not capitalism. So what. What are we doing here?
[00:37:22] Speaker A: I don't know. The whole thing just stresses me out. I'm like, they've had three months to get their affairs in order. They. They've literally just getting acclimate the.
[00:37:31] Speaker B: To the sun and they like. What are they like, just like paying each other? Nobody has any money. It's like July 2026, honestly.
[00:37:39] Speaker A: Exactly. They're just bartering at this point. I mean, I think as the story goes on, we actually see the. The tithing situation. I feel like at one point the sirens are having to pay money. I'm like, what the hell are they doing down there?
[00:37:50] Speaker B: My God, it's crazy.
[00:37:53] Speaker A: Yeah. It's bad situation.
[00:37:55] Speaker B: It's really bad. And also like, Tamlin, what the are you gonna do with that money? You're gonna pay for your wife?
[00:38:01] Speaker A: Probably.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: Are you gonna. Are you gonna sell it? Sell the rights to Disney plus and.
[00:38:06] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
[00:38:07] Speaker B: Take the money from the people.
[00:38:09] Speaker A: It's a monster truck rally for sure. That's what's giving. It's giving MMA fight on the lawn.
[00:38:13] Speaker B: I mean, basically, with her dress too, it just like. Yeah, it's bad.
[00:38:17] Speaker A: Whatever. Yeah. So can't stand it. Hate the idea of it. Yep.
And so she's like, learning little by little that, like, things might not be everything they're cracked up to be. Also, here's another thing from this section in.
She's so upset about her life. She's like depressed about it. Yeah.
She's at home. He comes home from a day out living his life. She's been locked up in the house, right? He comes in the bedroom, just takes his clothes off and they get at it. She starts going, this is what I needed.
[00:38:48] Speaker B: Yes, yes. And it's like, oh, you still. She's like, wait, will I be a high lady? And he's like, no, high ladies don't exist.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: Like, literally, as his head is between her legs, it's like, you ain't getting that.
Best I could do is consort.
[00:39:06] Speaker B: We gotta keep you in the house.
[00:39:09] Speaker A: Best I could do is concubine. I don't know.
[00:39:14] Speaker B: It's insane. Insane. He looks up and he's like, I can't give you that.
[00:39:20] Speaker A: Are you insane?
[00:39:21] Speaker B: And then she's like, he's distracting me with his fingers.
[00:39:25] Speaker A: Yeah, he hissed a lot during that scene too. Which I was, what?
[00:39:30] Speaker B: So cr. And the, like, the same day she had, like, I don't know if it's the same day, but like, she had come out to the stables and was like, let me go into town, please.
Like, I want to go into town. And literally goes, you could help out around the house or paint.
It's crazy.
[00:39:49] Speaker A: Just the life of a consort.
[00:39:51] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:39:52] Speaker A: Then everybody keeps trying to gaslight her by being like. Like, he wants to keep you safe.
[00:39:56] Speaker B: He wants to keep you safe. He's such a powerful man. Like, you should feel so lucky.
[00:40:01] Speaker A: You should feel so blessed. There's somebody who's like a lot of Olusian was like a lot of human women would love to just like lay around all day, be rich, have these beautiful dresses and jewelry and all this stuff.
[00:40:11] Speaker B: You know, the problem is, I mean, there are some people now that want to do that.
[00:40:15] Speaker A: Absolutely. Some people are reading this going, oh, see the problem?
[00:40:18] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. They're like, I don't want to work. Wouldn't it work?
I know, I know. Millennial women are like that.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: I need my money.
Can you imagine? Honestly, 22 year old me, if that were me and he was like, best I can do is concert.
[00:40:36] Speaker B: I'd be like, that's great.
I'll take it.
[00:40:42] Speaker A: That sounds so great, babe.
Trash.
[00:40:47] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:40:48] Speaker A: Speaking of. This is an aside. I should have mentioned this in the. Anything been going on in your.
During my birthday, I called you about this because it was like a crisis a little bit. I get this unknown number texting me. It's a north. It's North Carolina area code.
You know, I get spam from North Carolina areas all the time because I still have it.
North Carolina area code?
[00:41:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:09] Speaker A: I look at it and I open it and it's very clear. All of a sudden, there's not like some message being like, press, type, stop. Right, right. You know, so I'm like, okay, so this might be a legitimate text.
[00:41:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:19] Speaker A: And I look and there's not a text history here, like, at all.
The last text that I had received, I have never responded. Well, from what I could see, I had never responded to this number. I don't know if your texts that you send to another number go away if you delete a number. I don't. I don't really know how that works.
[00:41:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:37] Speaker A: Because usually when I delete somebody's number, I never talk to them again. That's typically how it works.
[00:41:40] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:41:41] Speaker A: But anyway, I don't know. There is no text history between me and this number, but the text that comes through from this person, it's only text from person. And the last ones. The last ones were from 2016.
And it was like when I was living in D.C. and it's like, any clubs to check out, whatever. And I guess I had just never responded because there were no other texts from that person.
And then all of a sudden, this person, in the good year 2026 of our Lord is sending me a happy birthday, and it's the first guy I ever slept with in college.
[00:42:13] Speaker B: What was the grammar like, by the way? With that one?
[00:42:17] Speaker A: You know, eyes glazed over. It was like, happy birthday, lady. Lady, mind you, you know, I'm not going to get into this man's business. But anyway, I was like, what the.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: Yeah. That's so weird. That is so.
[00:42:33] Speaker A: But that is the type of person that I would have totally expected.
[00:42:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:36] Speaker A: Totally accepted.
[00:42:37] Speaker B: You're like, okay, I don't have to be high, lady.
[00:42:40] Speaker A: Yeah. And now I'm like, I will get a restraining order. Keep texting me.
[00:42:44] Speaker B: Call the police. Call animal control for that lion.
[00:42:47] Speaker A: No. Yeah, sorry. I just. I needed to get my trauma out there into the world.
[00:42:52] Speaker B: I mean, yeah, we. I think we. I feel like we've all been there. And so it's like these at least millennial women, and they're like, off.
Like, but. But the.
[00:43:03] Speaker A: Like, yes, I could give you his console.
[00:43:04] Speaker B: I know, I know. But the acceptance of it. She was like, okay. Then I just got distracted.
And, you know, she's like, this. I need this. And it's like, no, you know what? You need to get out of the house.
[00:43:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:18] Speaker B: Like, you need to go into the village. Yeah. Explore. A little traveling. Yeah.
[00:43:22] Speaker A: Just a little trinket. Just a little sweet treat here.
[00:43:24] Speaker B: And there's a Little sweet treat. Go get a. Go get yourself a coffee.
[00:43:27] Speaker A: She has no credit card. She's got no money in her name, man.
[00:43:32] Speaker B: Man, she needs to write a divorce memoir.
I mean, holy.
I. I, like, I really can't stand it that she's not seen.
[00:43:41] Speaker A: No.
[00:43:42] Speaker B: You know, she's like, oh, there's something. I'm feeling bad.
[00:43:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:45] Speaker B: And you're like, yeah, because you're being kept in the house.
[00:43:48] Speaker A: It's there. But she's just not, like, grabbing that. That string. So there's all these parties that are going on in celebration of the wedding.
[00:43:56] Speaker B: The wedding.
[00:43:57] Speaker A: They have the wedding rehearsal party, which seems to be everybody in their grandma, but actually nobody that Feyre actually knows or cares for, cares about, except for Ianth. Ianth is there.
[00:44:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:09] Speaker A: And she actually sees Tamlin having a good time. She's like, huh, interesting. Maybe he's liking this. And I hate this. She keeps being like, I just want to marry him. I don't want to marry the high lord. I'm like. And everybody's like, sister, it's the whole thing.
[00:44:21] Speaker B: It's the whole thing. You can't. Meghan Markle, you.
[00:44:26] Speaker A: She's not. She's like, grappling with the fact that, like, she doesn't really know this man.
[00:44:30] Speaker B: Yeah, right, right, right.
[00:44:31] Speaker A: And now she's, like, seeing him in this whole person. And she's like, I don't know if all this is what I want, but I also think she doesn't. She's, like, not clicking that, like, she doesn't actually like him.
[00:44:40] Speaker B: She doesn't like him. Yeah. I mean, I think Megan Markle and Prince Harry are, like, in. Actually in love.
[00:44:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:46] Speaker B: I mean, I don't know. But, like, so that was at least. She was like, I don't want this. The rest of this. But yeah. No, I don't think she even likes him.
[00:44:55] Speaker A: I don't think she even likes him. I actually don't think he even likes her either. Yeah, but they're like trauma bonded or something. I don't know.
[00:45:03] Speaker B: They're like, we went under the mountain together. Well, no, she went in for him. She's like, I killed a couple people. I better see this through.
[00:45:11] Speaker A: Yeah, right.
[00:45:12] Speaker B: And he's like, yeah, she saved me.
But I. I don't like it. I don't like the optics.
[00:45:19] Speaker A: No, I hate it. Not. Not a fan. So anyway, they have this dinner. Ianth is like, flirting with these boys that are like, you know, lowly on the. On the totem pole. She's like, lowly looking For a man to, like, sleep with for the night.
[00:45:31] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:45:32] Speaker A: Feyre is like me at any nightclub who's like, I can't wait to go home. Yeah, right, right. Like, I need to get out of here. None of these boys are cute. Please stop talking to me. Yeah. But the boys are talking to her because they're so wowed that this is, you know, the woman that freed them.
[00:45:43] Speaker B: They were the curse Baker. Yeah, yeah.
[00:45:44] Speaker A: And one of them takes notice of that tattoo, and she. She gets defensive.
[00:45:49] Speaker B: She does quickly.
And the tattoo, not that bad. Yeah.
[00:45:53] Speaker A: She's like, you don't know him at all, and holds his gaze. I said, sister, you better stand 10 toes down for your man in here the night before your wed. Oh, my God.
[00:46:02] Speaker B: Oh, my God. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:46:05] Speaker A: So then she's like, I'm tired. I have to go to bed. She goes to bed. Before she does. So she looks over and her man's just having a great old time, throwing his head back, laughing like she's never seen before.
She then wakes up, it's the next morning for her wedding.
Morning of morning of. You know who's not with the.
Alice.
[00:46:24] Speaker B: Alice was like, I don't know if you should be here.
[00:46:28] Speaker A: Alice said, I've seen you through a lot.
[00:46:30] Speaker B: She's like, I'm loyal to you now. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:46:33] Speaker A: And so the dress is giving pretty. Pretty princess.
[00:46:37] Speaker B: It's giving Barbie for sure. Yeah.
[00:46:40] Speaker A: And just. Yeah. Fluffs everywhere. She can see her shoulders out of her peripheral vision. The bodice is tight, but the rest of it is, like, poofy and big.
[00:46:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:50] Speaker A: And she keeps saying that I am. Knows what she's doing by picking out this wedding dress. And I'm like, she's trying to make you look foolish.
[00:46:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Trying to make you look like a. Yeah.
[00:46:58] Speaker A: Because there is a point in which Feyre is like, she knows, like. And again, I'm like, how? How does she know all of this? She's been gone for the last 50 years. Feyre keeps being like, she knows how the high lords work and how the courts work. She knows what they want and what they need. I'm like, she's literally been raised for the last 50 years over here. She has no idea what's going on. These folks have been under a mountain.
[00:47:18] Speaker B: Right, Right.
[00:47:19] Speaker A: And what's funny is later in the book, like, Rhysand's like, I hate that dress.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: Yeah. I know.
[00:47:26] Speaker A: My aunt was trying to make her look stupid in front of these people.
[00:47:29] Speaker B: Yeah. You know what, though? Tam didn't even like it, but he was like, I guess. I guess you have to wear it. Yeah.
[00:47:35] Speaker A: I Aunt knows best.
The theme with Tamlin is that he absolutely. It has no backbone.
[00:47:42] Speaker B: Yeah. None.
[00:47:42] Speaker A: No spine.
[00:47:43] Speaker B: None.
[00:47:44] Speaker A: And everybody sees it because they're at the wedding. Feyre goes into full panic attack mode. Like, she's walking down the aisle. She's like, I can't do this anymore. And she gets close to Tamlin and she stops and she's like, I cannot go any closer.
[00:48:00] Speaker B: Like, please help me. Somebody help me.
[00:48:02] Speaker A: Exactly. So she starts saying that, like, to herself, like, please help. Please help. Whatever. And who should show up in the.
[00:48:09] Speaker B: And with a night shadow in the background? Like, he's just like. Shows up and he goes. What does he say? Hello, favorite darling.
[00:48:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Hello, favorite. Wearing a nice suit.
[00:48:18] Speaker B: Wearing a really nice suit. You know what is my favorite meme about that? Have you seen the one with Ian Summer Holder?
[00:48:25] Speaker A: No.
[00:48:25] Speaker B: Oh, my God. It's the best.
[00:48:27] Speaker A: You know, I. He doesn't do it for me, so maybe I just like. Maybe.
[00:48:31] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. It's just the music and everything. And he's like, showing up at a wedding, so it's okay. Oh, man, I love it.
[00:48:39] Speaker A: It's giving that.
[00:48:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:40] Speaker A: It's giving the vision. Yeah. So our man shows up to potentially rescue our girl. And that's our cliffhanger for this week.
[00:48:47] Speaker B: Hanger. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:48:49] Speaker A: Can't wait for. I can't wait for this to continue
[00:48:51] Speaker B: and take her away. Yeah. Yeah. Very excited.
[00:48:54] Speaker A: Well, you'll have to tune in next time to hear what happens.
[00:48:57] Speaker B: Yeah, I guess so. You'll have to, like, continue.
I. I know that you're biting your nails, waiting.
[00:49:03] Speaker A: You can't wait.
[00:49:04] Speaker B: It's a nail biter.
[00:49:05] Speaker A: Exactly.
Okay, well, that's it for me today.
[00:49:09] Speaker B: Me too.
[00:49:10] Speaker A: Okay, well, thank you as always, for listening and tuning in. And remember, if you're feeling the vibe, rate and subscribe. 5 star reviews go a very long, long way for us.

[00:49:33] Speaker A: Yes.

[00:49:40] Speaker A: He's our expectation.
Love that.
[00:49:46] Speaker B: Thank you to Christian McCann, who is a quicker picker.

And yeah, thank you to Lincoln Lodge for letting us do our thing. And that's it.
